1990-07-26 London School of Economics.
Always been a favorite of mine.
Best version of Codeine I've heard.

"Up yours, eh."

i was going to say this exactly. i love 'codeine' and find it kind of annoying that a studio version hasn't surfaced. that said the version on that show will more than suffice.

My copy of the LSE gig (a tape traded at the time) has segments of the soundcheck on it.

If you get a tape from this era and it doesn't have Hypnotized on it keep looking for one that does.

My personal favourite is Commonwealth Institute, August 1991. Can't recall the date but i do know it was a Thursday and that it was the day the A level results were released. The particular highlights: So Hot - very faithful to the LP, the intro to Anyway TYWM, the way Thinge'll NBTS cuts out as Jason throws his guitar across the stage. The light were great that night too. Happy days.

Codeine? As in the Buffy St. Marie song? I don't have many Spz boots...was this a regular in their set at the time? I would love to hear it. Could somebody please share or point me in the direction of this boot?

i was going to recommend this one too.

when i get home i'll see if i still have it on my backup drive and i'll upload it for you.

also, the 1993 hackney empire show is pretty awesome. i wish it sounded a bit better, but they end it with a 10-minute version of '200 bars' that is positively brain-melting.

My question too. I couldn't find the hotlinks to the shows - just info.

Oh, and cheers for the offer, shalloboi.

Firstly, thanks shalloboi for sharing this show.

Secondly, very cool to hear Jason's version of "Codeine". This is one of the truly great songs of the 60's and it is hard to beat Buffy St. Marie's amazing, heart-wrenchingly emotional original version of the tune. You feel her pain and you believe every single word she sings. With respects to some of the better cover versions...The Charlatans, The Litter, Quicksilver and The Leaves all did decent versions but, the two below are my absolute favorite covers of "Codeine":

Loving the LSE set. Does anyone know why they were playing there, assuming the place is actually what the name describes?

I'm really impressed by the site and was able to send in a few contributions too (gig dates, info, scans). There's some great info, and it's an excellent piece of work that has always got more added whenever I dip back into it.

I am also totally mystified by how to download from it!

Most of those shows were linked to megaupload.
Once megaupload went down, so did those links.

I might be mistaken, but I don't think you can download anything from there anymore.

Anyone happen to have an archive? I would love to a set of bootlegs, I'll send DVD-Rs and pay for shipping if anyone still has a ton of them.
