chicago show

Post by shalloboi »

just got home. the night got off to a bit of a slow start tonight and the sound was kind of muddy for the first half of the set- the first half of 'hey jane' was kind of weak but by the end it sounded really nice with the new gospel singers. my favourite parts were the new songs ('headed for the top now' in particular- very different from the recorded version), 'electric mainline,' 'stay with me' (which was more gorgeous and perfect than i was execting), and they played the long version of 'ladies and gentlemen...' (which was in the minneapolis setlist so i'm glad i didn't look at it- it was a nice surprise). 'cop shoot cop...' was fantastic as well- i haven't seen them do that one since the 'amazing grace' tour and this version was wayyyyyy better. very glad i went.

So Long You Pretty Things is the song bands search for their whole career to close their shows with. Tonight we got crushed with that. Yeah. And then they played Come Together.

Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating With Spiritualized.

I don't know what the fuck the deal is with sound at Metro, but pretty much every show I've seen there in the last five years begins with awful sound that gradually improves as the night goes on. The opener was a female acoustic guitarist, so how they couldn't have had the sound all sussed out before the band hit the stage is beyond me.

Highlights: Lay Back In The Sun, L&GWFIS, Cop Shoot Cop (totally unexpected and amazing closer), So Long You Pretty Things, Stay With Me.

Show got better and better as the night rolled along.
Showstoppers were So Long You Pretty Things, Lay Back In The Sun, Cop Shoot Sop with a whole other dimension added, Stay With Me, Mary.

Long day/night 8 hrs of driving but I did come home with loads of Three Floyds: Dreadnaught, Arctic Panzer Wolf, Rabbit Rabbit, Live A Rich Life, Zombie Dust, Alpha King, Robert The Bruce. Opportunity to let a road trip allow me picking up some uber sought after beer otherwise unavailable in Michigan.

Looking forward to the Detroit show tonight. So are the band which bodes well.

didn't the sound there used to be good? it's so bad now that i begin to doubt whether or not it really ever was good.

Hasn't this been a regular complaint since, at least, the October gigs though? May not be just the venue's fault for the sound issues.

Please mention to them how great their Cheapster/Shine A Light versions were at the Royal Albert Hall show... and that Los Angeles would love to hear it.

i noticed the show popped up on dime. was wondering if some kind soul who knows how to deal with bittorrents wouldn't mind sharing a copy of this show with me? i've tried for years and years but using torrents and such seems to be beyond my mental capacity despite how to do so being explained to me time and time again. just thought i'd ask...

Sure, just send me the link and I'll grab it for you, then upload it to sendspace or mediafire (I feel like everybody on here uses sendspace right?)

Wow, I was dreaming the show would pop up for download. I thought the show got better as it progressed as well. Stuck around and had Jason autograph a poster for me.

What do you mean by better?

The torrent shalloboi linked to was flac, I'm just converting to mp3/adding tags, etc right now, then will put it up on sendspace. The FLAC folder would be bigger than 300 MB (~600). I'll have it up in 20 minutes or so.

thanks for doing that! i really appreciate it.
i was going to try to record it, but it definitely wouldn't've sounded this good if i'd done it. the sound in the venue was pretty muddy, so this is actually an improvement on what it sounded like to me while i was there.
thanks again!

"catch them on tour in support of their new album, 'Huh?'" ... good god. The CME guys are obviously fans of the band (eye-rolling emoticon).

that's just what you can see too- the place is huge, the walls are high and covered with pretty much any guitar you could ever imagine wanting- all priced so far out of your reach they might as well have a forcefield around them.
i've always called it 'the guitar museum.'

The guy who owns it/runs it grew up down the street from me.
He made a boatload of money of some online trading site.
Nice guy. He was one of the first customers ever at my record shop.
Dont know how much of a Spiritualized fan he is.
Amazing how many employees that place has. Someone there must be a fan.
Is it close to The Metro?

everyone who works there is very nice. i used to stop by there after work pretty regularly. a few of them know me by name.
i'm pretty sure one of them is a fan- whenever i wear a spiritualized shirt in there i'm usually regaled with a story of one of the bands multiple visits (they stopped by during their last stop in town, too).
it is pretty close to the metro- i've walked between the two before (i do have a bit of a tendency to take long walks, though). probably less than two miles. it used to be even closer, i believe. worth a stop the next time you're in town.
i always wondered how one went about starting a place like that. there are enough collectors in the neighborhood to keep them doing pretty well, apparently- they just finished expanding into the next storefront.

Very accurate description. Google "guitar porn" and see what comes up
