Meet-ups for UK Leg of Tour

Post by toomilk »

I'll be at the Gateshead, Leeds, Coventry, and London shows if anyone would like to meet up before the shows. Can anyone recommend places near the venues that will be good to go for drinks and food? I'm sure there aren't many options for the Coventry show, but the others for sure.

Send me a PM if you're interested in getting a few pints before the gigs!

yeah not many options for the Coventry one, as it's on the Uni campus- just the Arts Centre bar. it's a pretty nice venue to hang before a show though, will definitely be getting there early for a few pints.

I'll be at the Leeds gig on Saturday (it'd be rude not too really). So will definately be up for a few drinks before hand. There's a couple of Wetherspoons near the Uni which are cheap and cheerful enough for food and beer. A plus for me is at least they sell real ale. Loads of other pubs in Leeds though.
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

Going to the Camden Roundhouse show on the Monday and Brighton on the Tuesday. Definitely up for meeting up at either of those. Think there are a couple of decent pubs near the Roundhouse but, not being a local, not sure of names.

You may struggle in Gateshead. It's a shithole.

Best place if you must is http://www.theheadofsteam.co.uk/gateshead/ which in all fairness is top class and a few minutes walk from the Sage

Avoid Gateshead town centre. Dire.

Alternatively nip across the river into Newcastle.

Anything noteworthy that's close to the river?

Is there one you'd recommend?

TBH, in that area of Newcastle just over the bridge is a bit trendy, the area known as the quayside. Overpriced and populated by....well you can guess the sort of clientele expensive pubs attract. Thursday night is the 'new' Friday night so it will be busy.

I'm making some presumptions here about what you prefer.

You may be better off in the 'student' bars but I'm not sure which ones those are any more.

IMHO the reputation Newcastle has as being a 'good night out' or a party city is somewhat of a myth. If trendy, fashion pubs are your thing then it probably is. If you fancy a pub with decent (or no) music and decent beers, then you may have to try harder.

Maybe someone who is more familiar with the place could help ?

Travelling to the Gateshead gig too, I don't know the area at all, but this sounds OK to me:

Guessing you mean The Central - I'll be there sometime between 6 and 7, look out for the short scruffy white bloke, probably wearing a Belle & Sebastian t-shirt, blue jacket and black Ralph Lauren beenie hat.

Am looking forward to visiting this place as I can picture it in my head as a rather downbeat-looking pub that was visible when you took a left just before the Tyne Bridge to use the High Level, before they restricted it to buses southbound only. I've never been to a bad pub/bar/venue that was part of the HoS chain, so should be a good place to meet-up.
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

If anyone is interested, I'll be at the Dry Dock pub before the show tonight. It's the one that looks like a boat.

Ill be getting food around 5:30. Look for the skinny guy with glasses!

Don't think I'm going to get to Leeds much before 8pm, so might possibly go straight to the gig, but not sure. I'll be wearing a Soft Speaker T shirt.
It's nice to be liked,
But it's better by far to get paid.

I'm insanely jealous. A gig out is a real treat for my wife and I - we probabvly manage 2-4 a year maximum. A one year old, and severely reduced wages have both conspired to ensure that an evening out in itself is a real luxury. Really hope you enjoy the tour. It'll be interesting to see how the set changes over the tour.....

Do you find that the expereince changes over the tour and you can really notice the differences....?
