Managed to get tickets for the Trans-Europe Express show as well as Man-Machine!
This is going to be incredible, apparently the ticket fiasco was a nightmare and no one got tickets, but it went fine for me!
Will be in Dusseldorf from 13-17th Jan if anyone is heading over.

Managed to get a couple of tickets for the midnight show on the 19th, extra tickets were released today for most of the shows. After the fiasco for the Tate show ticketing I saw that some people were going to try to get tickets for these shows from the UK. I hope the announcement on the English ticket site that the tickets were to be made available at 10 am didn't catch anyone out (don't forget that Düsseldorf is one hour ahead of the UK!)

Wow, what a great venue and amazing shows! Loved the version of It's more fun to compute on both nights, as well as the stomping version of Radioactivity (part japanese, part original, part mix version). Great! Was a breeze getting in both nights just after doors opened, took only a minute to get in with no fuss. Loved it.
As for the city.... not much doing!

Your pictures from the concerts looked amazing, James. I'm insanely jealous.

Off to the midnight Mix show tomorrow, then Fortuna vs. Augsburg on the Sunday, how much more Düsseldorf could it be?
Stop press! There's a ticket for the midnight show tonight available as I type! You've got 2 hours to get there!

Fantastic gig, as a spectacle, probably the most memorable I've ever seen. Having listened to the album on the train going to D'dorf it was interesting to hear the German versions of the songs. The setlist* was:
01: Die Roboter - stunning opening with the 3D effects of the pirouetting robots' arms reaching out into the audience
02: Computerliebe - 3D wave forms
03: Taschenrechner - floating pocket calculator with keys being pressed by a hand
04: Dentaku
05: Autobahn - the highlight of the night for me, a trip along the motorway in an outside a VW beetle, with music notes floating out of the radio and into the audience
06: Geigerzähler
07: Radioaktivität (Fukushima Version) very atmospheric with radiating beams emanating from a radioactivity symbol and 3D atoms with nuclei being by orbited by electrons
08: Trans Europa Express - very simple black and white train graphics but very effective
09: Abzug
10: Metall auf Metall
11: Spacelab - a voyage through high orbit with the audience seemingly being almost speared by a satellite antenna
12: Das Model - not really 3D, old films of models from the early 50s
13: Neonlicht - free floating advertising logos
14: Die Mensch-Maschine - simple but effective red, white and black angular graphics
15: Nummern - a luminous green sea of numbers that pulsed and ebbed
16: Computerwelt
17: Computerwelt 2
18: It's more fun to compute
19: Heimcomputer
20: Tour de France - a mix of old films of the tour and modern graphic overlays
21: Tour de France 2003
22: Vitamin - pills flying out of the screen
23: Planet der Visionen
24: Electric Café
25: Boing Boom Tschak - biff! Bang! Pow! batman-type graphics
26: Technopop
27: Music Non Stop
The surround-sound setup was crystal clear and the bass was deep and loud enough to vibrate the raised structure I was standing on. I would recommend anyone that can get a ticket to go to the London shows, if I had any complaints it would be that the gig was a bit too long at 2 hours and that for some of the tracks the 3D effects were much better than the music (Vitamin). The Saturday concert was filmed using a 3D camera and the cameraman told me afterwards that a Blu-Ray release (presumably also in 3D) of the gig is in the pipeline.

I thought 2 hours was perfect, but I still wanted more! I love Vitamin, was a shame they didn't play it at either of the shows I was at.

Kraftwerk might need to write an updated version of "Vitamin" after all the recent cycling scandals
