Dots & Loops: ZOMES + support / Kraak, Manchester / 25th Oct

Post by James T »

Dots & Loops is back on 25th October, this time for another all night event with a full line up of bands before the usual psych/kraut/shoegaze/indie/pop clubnight. The gig will be headlined by the fantastic ZOMES, featuring Asa Osborne from Lungfish. This is their only north-west date on what is a short European tour, so be sure not to miss it! Support comes from the amazing Shield Patterns + 1 more tbc.

ZOMES

Zomes is a project by Asa Osborne, guitarist of one of Baltimore’s most legendary punk outfits, Lungfish. While the works of Lungfish provided their own deep spirituality, both Asa and Lungfish’s singer, Daniel Higgs, have taken their ideas of aural mysticism to a whole new realm.

Zomes has provided heavy mediations for turntables, tape decks, and dark rooms alike using repetitive strokes of keys and simple rhythms which emanate in ways that provide its listeners with pure mental isolation. While it’s easy to get lost in, it can create the ideal focal point to help tackle some of life’s more formidable thoughts. Zomes is library music for a cosmic discourse.

SHIELD PATTERNS

Shield Patterns is the newly formed project of Manchester-based artist Claire Brentnall, whilst still in its infancy, shows a sophistication beyond these early days. Dusted with delicate vocals and rudimentary beats and loops, her music is wintry and fragile, and suffused with a strong emotional warmth. The songs are born in sporadic, cathartic bursts, with subtle poetry inseparably intertwined with spiralling piano phrases, tender strings, and hypnotic synth patterns. The understated sweetness of Brentnall's voice is offset by dub-influenced bass-lines and restless beats, creating unexpectedly textural songs that are inherently minimalist, yet infectiously hummable.

The debut single from this highly promising artist is entitled 'The Rule' and is released by Gizeh Records on September 2nd.
