Playing Manchester the following night. I might pop over for that one.

Yeah but it's at the Ruby Lounge which rates as one of the worst venues I have ever been to. I loathe that place.

What's the problem with it? Bad sound, layout, staff or all three?

Nasty layout with low ceilings. If anyone is standing watching the band you can't see a damn thing. I also remember some really annoying pillars getting in the way too. Also - and sorry for saying so - it's in Manchester which is not a place I like at all.

To be fair Mark, the layout of the Lexington is a tad shite too. Low ceiling, stairs opposite the stage, the stage is towards the corner of room. Let's not forget the room is difficult to get into due to the nice beer in the front bar and the millions of hippies queuing up for merch in the doorway....

I can't remember many pillars, but then I was a tad leathered by the time the gig started. Dave Caldwell and I bravely faced down our inner shortarses and stood on the bench that runs around the wall of the room to get a prime view of the mayhem though.

MCR vs London: Meh

On reflection, I'll probably go to both. It appears to be the only plan that makes sense unless Bardo Pond play MCR the night The Heads play London.......

To be honest, I don't think you will find The Heads playing a venue with better sound/PA than the The Ruby Lounge. The layout may not be the best, but it has the best system in Manchester by a long way for me.

I have no great allegiance between London and Manchester (don't make us Midlanders choose!) but Manchester is slightly less of a ballache for me. James's comments about the sound system sounds encouraging too.

is there any inkling on whether this all means that the band are still an ongoing concern? Olan you seemed to think that they played new material at the Psych Fest?

Looking at the set list for Psych fest there was no new titles in there.
Ruby lounge is poor in layout terms but really good sound. Manchester is easily my fave gig going place, apart from Sound Control which is always a) oversold b) shit sounding and I'm always stuck to the sodding floor !
Booked the Heads gig in Manchester, just need to wait and see about the Lexington, hoping Bardo Pond come up with something

If you are happy attending a gig where you can't see the band then that's fine. But that's not for me.

I have friends who sat well away from the stage for Black Angels as it was impossible to get closer. I saw White Hills there & hated it.

I found the Lexington ok earlier this year. Hardly the best but I would take it over the Ruby Lounge any day.

I'm probably up for a repeat of this year's fantastic gig at the Lexington (especially after forgoing seeing The Heads at this year's Liverpool Psych Fest to see Spiritualized  ). I just knew those 3 gigs earlier in the year wouldn't be the end of them.

a little bit off topic but wasn't really sure where to post this- if anybody is lucky enough to be seeing Acid Mothers Temple tonight in Bristol, the support act is none other than Anthroprophh..

still deciding myself whether to see one or both of these Heads shows. don't know when will get the chance again (but said that last time!!)

Tickets bought for Manchester, still not seen The Heads, thought I would see them at Liverpool but the magnetic pull of the mighty Spiritualized won out in the end, so yeah, this time, thinking about doing London as well,

Thanks! Snapped up immediately. I only have this album on a fateful CD-R from 2005 courtesy of Runcible Records.

Possibly the only time I've ever seen The Heads in a bargain bin!

Actually I got the titles mixed up - the CD-R I mention above was actually Everybody Knows We Got Nowhere.

I've never even heard of this album! Respect to Norman records - arrived this morning.

think I'm gonna go for the Manchester gig for now. I get back from a big family holiday to New York a couple of days before, might as well have the rest of the week off and indulge in some psych. happy days :)

let's hope Bardo Pond have something in the pipeline too. anyone heard any whispers?

Don't know if people are aware of this or not but a vinyl version of Enten Eller will be on sale at these gigs, 300 red and 300 black. I'm assuming the red will be at the gigs and the black goes to the shops.

I wonder are they planning on putting out all the cdr's on vinyl over the coming years?

Looks like the ATP festivals are cancelled, despite denials from Barry Hogan, Pontins have emailed The Quietus to say both weekends are off. The Jehu weekend looked like it would be uninteresting, but the Stuart Lee show was fabulous. Detailes here: http://thequietus.com/articles/19801-at ... ncellation. All a bit deja vu....

not sure if i would be trust them enough to give them any more of my money now. I agree that the Stewart Lee lineup looks brilliant, whereas the Drive Like Jehu is uninspiring to say the least.

if they are cancelled, could a silver lining be that the acts would be free to do some other UK dates around that time? hoping for some Bardo Pond action.

heard all sorts of rumours about ATP still owing outstanding money to artists as well as seetickets etc. It basically sounds like they have had their day but they are trying to cling on in there. they should give up and let other promoters have a crack at putting on these sorts of artists (but perhaps actually making sure they are paid instead!)

Stuart Lee this afternoon. In short, he doesn't know what is going on! Hardly his fault though is it?

I thought it was common knowledge that Stewart Lee has let himself go, so hardly surprising...

Any recommendations for a cheap place to stay in Manchester for the night?

Not getting into MCR 'til 3pm and flying back out at noon the next day so I want to keep it cheap and, not necessarily, cheerful!

There is a cheap travelodge very close to the ruby lounge (2 or 3 infact) and also a Motel One which can sometimes be cheap and is fairly decent. Gardens Hotel and Sachas are maybe the cheapest options, but both are very sketchy.

The Heads 'Beatles' poster for the Ruby Lounge can be bought here: https://moonshakedesign.bandcamp.com/me ... -poster-a1
A1 size (23in x 33in). Can't really afford it but I took the plunge....Conversation to be had at a later date: "It's an investment dear...yeah stick it in a frame and in a few years it'll be worth a fortune...would I lie to you..."

Any meet up planned before the Manchester gig? I expect to be in town around 3 o'clock.

There is some discussions of a pre-gig venue on the go... James T has suggested Gullivers which is near the venue. My brother and I will be down early afternoon and plan on having a stroll around and do some record shopping before the gig.

Gary, i'll pm you my mobile number if you fancy meeting up before the show!

Looking forward to this!

We will be in town circa 3.30. So Piccadilly Tap, Port St Beer House, Soup Kitchen and 57 Thomas St are all likely destinations pre gig

Good rather than brilliant.
Fourth time seeing them and I would rank it 4th. #1 being LPF last year, 2nd ATP '07, 3rd in Koko '09.

I thought it was brilliant myself, as a relative newcomer to The Heads, this was my 1st time seeing them and was totally immersed and blown away.
