Any 1.6km-High City Folks gonna be there tonight?

SO EXCITED FOR THIS SHOW! The Gothic is a great old theater and seeing Spiritualized at such a small venue is going to be exceptional. Ticket prices are perfect too. Would love to see a poster for sale. : )

I've listed to them for years, and this is my first time seeing them so it feels like Christmas in April.

I was there. Great show. Same setlists as they've been doing.

I really hope that wasn't the last time I get to see them...but if it was it was a worthy show. Fully satisfied.

Here is my audio recording from the entire show (on YouTube). I have an ear infection so I can't hear that well now. Hopefully it sounds OK. I processed the recording the same as I normally would at this venue, but I may make some final tweaks before sharing the FLAC files (after my infection clears). What a great show. The Gothic was the perfect size to capture the sound and energy of this band.

We were standing up close enough to be more in the sound of the stage than the sound of the PA, which was really interesting... it made things sound way more raw, and the feeling was really intimate.

I was glad to hear the versions of the 'old' songs at the beginning of the set were trimmed down. Really great versions, to be honest. Great way to set up the rest of the set. Over the years, some of these songs get drawn out too long at the end. Not on this tour.

"And Nothing Hurt" is a great album, and seeing it live makes it even moreso.

"Let's Dance" was so full of life.

"On The Sunshine" was even more amazing than I was hoping it was going to be (love this song).

"The Morning After" was lots of fun... seeing Jason start this song with a simple strum of his Telecaster, then turning it into such a massive song... but then... bringing it down to SILENCE... you could hear wispers in the back of the room... then ramping it back up to its full sound... what a great performance!

"Sail On Through" is really getting to me... this performance made no attempt to blow the place out, and as with the album, was a perfect way to end the set. Such a haunting song.

Of course, a great encore. My first time hearing "Out of Sight" live...

Jason's voice was powerful and on tune at all times, his guitar playing the same. The entire band was spot on, creative, full of energy. Sometimes I think Kevin is a bit robotic on drums, but when you close your eyes and listen, you realize that not only is he incredible, he's the perfect percussionist for the symphony that is Spiritualized...

The last time I'd seen SPZ was at the San Francisco shows in 2017, and I was worried where things might be going... my questions were answered and tensions relieved. A friend said this SF / Masonic show on this tour was really stale and canned-sounding... crowd seated... the venue was too big and sound system too digital.

Feeling lucky to have seen this show!!

Hope everyone else gets to see something similar on this tour, and hope to see Spiritualized for years to come!

I flew in for the show Saturday and found it to be a magical evening. I felt the band were performing as a really cohesive unit, something I've not always felt in the past. I was really zoned in on Doggen the whole show. He was ripping all night long and I must say his playing, and harmonica'ing, were a highlight, really a pleasure. I was dead center up front and really enjoyed hearing the raw stage volume...but the venue was cozy and I imagine the sound was stellar through out.

Having spent, perhaps too much time, on this board I was concerned about some of the reports I was reading about on/off nights and the setlist. Going into the show knowing how the set would unfold I felt was an advantage in some way...generally I like the element of surprise. However I felt this knowledge let me really sink into the new material and be more in the moment not wishing/wanting they would play this or that. I don't know how that was received by everyone there but I was pleased as punch minus a couple drunken 'Snow-Bro's' I found a little annoying at times. Very thankful this was a GA show and not a seated venue, can't imagine how drastically that would've colored my experience. Aside from the May 08 gig at the Echo in LA I've not experienced a better performance from Spiritualized®

A funny side note. Prior to the gig I wondered into a hole in the wall Thai restaurant around the corner from the Gothic and ran into Jason. Said hi, shared a few pleasantries before he warned me that the meal he just had 'was shit and leave if you've not yet ordered.' which I did. I'd never imagine that would be the interaction I'd have, but it was. Many more funny exchanges in that brief interaction...quite surreal actually.

Some people were asking about merch...white and orange shirts from the online shop, orange slip matte, orange ceramic badge, silver foil tote, black long sleeve shirt and a black t-shirt with tour dates on the back...the last two lps.

They are the Countryman b3. You need to buy the unterminated version and get a pair wired into a 1/8" jack. They require a 9V battery box too. Super small.

FatahRuark - many, many thanks for posting the above recording. Absolutely blinding. In a day of moving accommodation this is a welcome reprieve.

An incredible and dynamic recording - the version of 'Shine a light' here may well be the definitive version - it's absolutely perfect.

so the Come Together lyrics talks about an Ape? I don't get it... I never thought the lyrics were that. I always thought it was 'ache'

Yep, 'ape around your nape' = 'monkey on your back'. Having a monkey on your back is heroin addiction (I've just double-checked on Urban Dictionary, having originally researched it in 1997 ).

And we now have 'On the Sunshine' with the line "Shake the monkey from your back / the circus never leaves".

I've heard covers of Come Together where the artists sing 'little Johnny had an ache', and it grates every time I hear it.

Mind you, I only 'got' 'Cop Shoot Cop' (as in 'acquire drugs / inject them / acquire drugs' rather than 'police on police' shootings...) when listening to L & G on heavy rotation in the lead up to the RFH show in 2009 and it suddenly clicked - it only took me 12 years!

I wonder what else I'll discover in 20 years time, 'cos I'll still be listening!

me too... well I also thought it was "hung around the poor boy's name"

even a square like me knows what "monkey on my back" means, but still, the ape on my nape lyric seems a bit clunky to me.

the Cop Shoot Cop thing is a really great double (or even triple) meaning in my opinion. you've got the drug addiction cycle, but that also applies to relationships (you get your heart broken, but still move on to the next person for it to happen again.. or perhaps are even drawn back to the same person even though they fuck you up), and then with the police officer thing, you've got the metaphor of two people who are actually on the same side attacking each other (again, could be applied to relationships.. as someone else also sang "the only thing I ever learnt from love/is how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya")

Wow, this is the first time the lyrics have looked like what it sounds like! The internet always has all these other variants, and it always seemed a little off. It definitely sounds like "ape/nape".

I wonder if the words are subject to slight changes from time to time / over time.

Don't know about Come Together, but always liked how in he Acoustic Mainline shows J changed Amen to 'not wanting to make his children cry' instead of mother.

I hear it now though, definitely ape and nape. It's weird as I was just thinking about this today while listening to it.
