EWO Club and Roadbitch are proud to present a special one off night of rock'n'roll at Glasgow's Barfly on Wednesday April 6th. Running from 7pm-3am, the line up offers some of the best live bands around, from Glasgow, the rest of the UK and even further a field with two American acts.

Headliners are Detroit's superb Soledad Brothers who have just completed recording their 4th studio album for Loog Records in France. For those of you who already know and love the Soledad Brothers, they need no description, if you're not one of the fortunate few make sure you're there to check them out. A band of fine blues musicians, at their best live, their history is unavoidably intertwined that other Detroit blues band (White Stripes), we won't go into the stories, they're unimportant, but we will say that Johnny Walker is the man responsible for teaching a certain Jack White how to play slide guitar. He, Johnny Walker, was once, rightfully, described as "one of the most captivating lead singers in rock and roll", and the MC5 agreed when Johnny was invited to guest on vocals on their European tour of 2004.

"You don't go to a doctor who's sick all the time, so why go to a bluesman who's sad all the time? You go to a show to have fun. If you come to our show and don't have fun, then shame on us." Johnny Walker MD, Soledad Brothers.

"Not just another dirty Detroit garage-rock outfit, Soledad Brothers sell frenzy even better than the rest of their Motor City cohorts. The blues-based stomp is familiar, but the unexpected tenor-sax runs sizzle like hot bacon grease." - Rolling Stone.

"[Soledad Brother's] secret's in the rhythm, and each time the beats kick in another straight-faced cynic is reduced to the status of 'dancing loon'." NME.

Nic Armstrong & The Thieves return to Glasgow fresh for their tour supporting the Modfather, Paul Weller, at his request, on his recent UK jaunt. From the first moment EWO witnessed Nic & The Thieves we were hooked, their catchy, danceable, feel good songs seem to win everyone over instantly. The Greatest White Liar, their astounding debut album, recorded at the legendary Toe Rag studio, has just been repacked and re-released, and if there's any justice it'll take the world by storm. A reference point? Think Britain's answer to Brendan Benson, and you won't be far off.

'Guaranteed to brighten up your darkest day.' Observer.

'It adds up to an absorbing debut, a skewed fast-forward of the past that sounds curiously fresh today.' Guardian.

Soledad Brothers label and tour mate, and former roadie, Mr David Viner. Though Mr David Viner is a young bluesman from London, he's been adopted, along with friends The Kills and The Datsuns, by the Detroit scene, recording his debut album at Jim Diamond's famous Ghetto Recorders. Discovered by Jason Stollsteimer whilst selling merch on a tour of the US with the Von Bondies just three short years ago. Since then he's toured extensively with, and recorded with many of, the likes of Dr John, The Duke Spirit, Blanche, Brendan Benson, Nic Armstrong, Holly Golightly, Raising Kain and the aforementioned Von Bondies, Soledad Brothers and The Kills. Though David tends to be found playing solo acoustic he oozes charisma, and with his blues growl commands your attention.

"The truest blues musician from London UK, Mr. David Viner is able to howl the ghosts of Mississippi Hurt and Robert Johnson but equally wail like Jonathan Richmond from Modern Lovers or earlier Bob Dylan. This is a pop classic, one filled with eccentricities of earlier blues renaissance and traditional country manifested in his brilliant guitar
playing." - Dim Mak.

"A single chord could silence 10 Craig Nicholls." - Ben Swank, Soledad Brothers.

"Recorded at Toe Rag [This Boy Don't Care], with the Soledad Brothers forming part of his honky-tonk backing band, 'This Boy Don't Care' defines Viner as an obscure legend, shiningly miserable and lovingly gruff." - NME.

"Viner's simple songs hark back to a time in the British Sixties that fetishised the roots music of the American Twenties and beyond. This Boy Don't Care manages to sound both mannered and unaffected." The Guardian.

Another EWO favourite, one of the country's most promising young bands, 10,000 Things were first brought to our attention with the release of their debut single, Foodchain, on Domino early in 2004. With the release of their debut album imminent on Fiction Records, let us assure you they are a spectacle to behold, with a live show that is never bettered. Riotous, anarchic and utterly filthy The 'Things deliver life-affirming songs with wit, humanity and fierce energy.

"Mixing filthy blues riffs and throaty soul howling, this Leeds sextet are about as zen as a kick in the knackers......" NME.

"10,000 Things are the band you wanted to be in when you were a kid, the Jim'll Fix It chance to play dirty sleazy riffs and wail boisterous, filthy lyrics until your lungs bleed." LeedsMusicScene.

"Live, 10,000 Things' stew of 50's rock 'n' roll, MC5 and the New York Dolls is swimming in a thick gravy of gloriously dumb fun" NME.

"[10,000 Things] are both dapper and brilliantly vile, punk and rock 'n' roll... risk life and limb to be there!" BBC.

Glasgow's kings of rock'n'roll Raising Kain are firm favourites with EWO, and pretty much everyone on the bill. Having played on the request of Mr David Viner, Soledad Brothers, 10,000 Things (and The Libertines) at almost every one of their Scottish shows, the local boys' reputation is spreading fast. Having sold out their debut single (Hijacked Records) Raising Kain are currently beavering away on their next releases for international giants Universal.

"Everything that you thought two years of soulless garage rock fashionistas had taken away from rock'n'roll; melodies that will eat your brain and lyrics that bring a cheeky smile to the face." NME.

"Raising Kain rise above most retro-rockers by dint of the fact that they possess a genuinely irresistible arsenal of bumptious anthems which sound like Rod Stewart whipping Jagger with a wet Bay City Rollers scarf." Scotland on Sunday.

"Glasgow's finest party band." NME.

"Raising Kain from Glasgow are possibly one of the best bands I have ever seen. Why they are not internationally huge amazes me." - Mr David Viner.

"Publicly here I recommend the slicing chopstick guitars and radio friendly melodious." - Peter Doherty, The Libertines/Babyshambles.

Another local band on the verge of big things, Figure 5 have just released their second single, Frustration/Freakout (Sunstone Records), to critical acclaim. Word has gotten out about these Glasgow mods, with invitations to play at mod rallies in Milan and Scarborough, as well as a personal request to support 60s psyche garage legends The Chocolate Watchband.

"If Figure 5 had gone to art school and had matching haircuts we'd be talking about summer festivals and the next Franz Ferdinand by now.... Support you're local hipsters and don't let the artsy geeks claim all the spoils of glory." TimesOut

"On first sight they look a little mod-obsessed but then from out of those feathered mops and tight trousers comes a raucous melodic sound complete with drawling vocals, taught riffs and sunkissed harmonies. The frontman is as cool as Casablancas, clutching the mic stand and filling the venue with his gutsy growl while psychedelic guitar storms, super speed rhythms and throbbing basslines surround him. It makes for a stunning set of slightly eccentric and utterly stunning guitar pop that's simply begging for the big-time." The List

"Psychedelic pop puppies Figure 5 bring a live show comparable to a psyched-out mod scuzz-fest. It's bound to be something a bit special." - The Fly

"Deeply retro and decidedly derivative, but absolutely joyful and charming, Figure 5 owe as much to Syd Barrett as they do to the rollicking, twisted sea shanty sound of The Coral. It's like The Buzzcocks jamming with The Small Faces, and that can't be a bad thing.

Melodic, catchy, tight and shiny as the buttons on a sharp suit, Figure 5 have perfectly captured the mod zeitgeist and bred it with the scuzz of grimy punk."- Daily Record.

Last minute additions to the At The Rivers Edge line up, The Needles 50's seeped rock'n'roll antics are playing their first, but we hope not their last, EWO night. We'll let the reviews below do the talking about this Aberdonian band who have released a series of singles over the past year, gaining day time airplay on Radio 1!

"[The Needles] play songs that sound like Buddy Holly's brain might've sounded like if it made, like, a sound. Diane squeezes The Jam and Jerry Lee Lewis into Squeezes sta-press slacks. Dead or Alive is every teenagers cowboy fantasy in one popgun flash of tambourine-dream brilliance." NME.

"I need to know two things from you. One, do you like having fun? Two, can you rock and roll and twist and shout? If the answer's "Yes!" to both, I've some good news for you: watching Aberdeen's The Needles is the best rock and rollin', twistin' and shoutin' fun you'll ever have of an evening.

The Needles' live show is irresistible – smart, pop-savvy tunes with hooks aplenty, and killer vocal harmonies from a bygone era. Frontman Dave Dixon (number one) is a megastar waiting in the wings. He leaps off the stage, back onto it, twirls, twists, pulls impossible shapes with his wiry frame, and then recounts hundred-miles-an-hour stories
of Tracker bar diets and the powers of rock and roll, all within what feels like eight seconds." Logo.

"Like Buddy Holly after he's been projected into the 21st century and handed a new pair of dancing shoes. Fantastic." Rocksound.

"The Needles are an intravenous shot in the arm of guitar music. Get your dose before it gets you." Record Collector.

Hailing from Stockton, The High Plane Drifters are a two-piece blues band who are on the brink of tours with Estrus' Immortal Lee County Killers and Detroit Legends The Hentchmen. Although this is their first trip to Glasgow, they've already got gigs with near enough every self respecting blues/rock'n'roll band (many of whom are playing on April 6th) on the go under their belts... Soledad Brothers, Dooley Wilson, Pearlene, The Mooney Suzuki, Whirlwind Heat, Modey Lemon and
Mr David Viner. Their debut "Hot Property" E.P (Don't Tell Clare Records) was released last year, with the band now working on new material, some of which includes guest performances from Johnny Walker of the Soledad Brothers.

"World class music. A two-piece phenomenon with the power and energy of a full-scale orchestra. Garage band blues and Psychedelia with high wire firebrand extravert guitar and vocals anchored with power hammer drumming. Pterodactyl guitar cries and blazes of feedback with showers of cymbals. Hyper Robert Johnson fully plugged in. Top drawer Hendrix moves and guitar grooves."

"If the White Stripes opened up the public consciousness to one guitar and one set of drums stomping blues rock, then The High Plane Drifters are here to finish the job. Infinitely cooler because they don't dress like twats or stink of incest, John Peel liked them too." This Is Fake DIY.

The second of our American acts completes our line up, Dooley Wilson is a solo bluesman from Ohio, touring Europe with former Henry & June band mates the Soledad Brothers. When he's not doing his solo stuff Dooley plays in the wonderful 3 piece Boogaloosa Prayer.

"The album is a beautiful mix of very traditional blues solos performed expertly by Dooley Wilson." Let Them Eat Lead.

Sounds like a tip top night... for the Soledads alone even!

Might just meander along... (even though the Barfly sucks Satan's knob!)
