DUNGEN GIG

Post by ORBITAL »

Went to see Dungen last week in Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh. The tunes are excellent. Although I couldnt understand the lyrics I just considered the voice as another instrument. Really tight band with a totally brilliant drummer. Spacey rock. Great melodies. Band looked cool too which is irrelevant really I suppose. Anyone else catch them?

1. Panda
2. Gjort Bort Sig
made a fool of him-/her-/oneself
3. Festival
4. Du E För Fin För Mig
you are too nice/beatiful/posh for me
5. Ta Det Lugnt
Take it easy (take it calmly)
6. Det du Tänker Idag Är du I Morgon
what (that which) you think today you will be tomorrow
7. Lejonet & Kulan
the lion & the den (or bullet)
8. Bortglömd
forgotten (in oblivion)
9. Glömd Konst Kommer Stundom Ånyo Till Heders
art fallen into oblivion will sometimes yet again be honoured
(kind of a 19th century sort of expression)
10. Lipsill
Cry baby (sob herring)
11. Om du Vore en Vakthund
if you were a watchdog
12. Tack Ska Ni Ha
you shall have thanks
13. Sluta Följa Efter
stop following (or stalk)

He uses quite a few old-fashioned expressions from the 1940-50s or even older

Panda can be sort of slang for a neogoth/posipunk girl, he sings something like "you don´t know how lucky you are, I want her too"
Dungen means "the grove"
both the music and the words remind me of the swedish progressive scene in the late sixties (and lots of other stuff of course)

Nice info Apple. I really enjoyed that show. The venue was like a tiny underground cellar and really added to the vibe. I was really surprised how good the band was considering the guy made the record almost entirely on his own, talented lad that he is.
