Spectrum U.S. Tour Info

Post by purespace »

from Sonic:

Hi Folks,

I am off to the US at the end of this month for a five week tour as Spectrum. Performing a selection of new songs, plenty of classic Spacemen 3 and Spectrum

I will be joined by Randall Neiman from Fuxa, as we travel across 20 states starting in New York and winding up in Texas.

I have set up a new MySpace page for Spectrum which is now online at http://www.myspace.com/spectrumofficialpage .

All show news, Spectrum info, album news etc will be on this page, which is the official Spectrum site run by me. So if you could all sign up as friends and sign on for the blogs at the official page it would be much appreciated.

Below are the dates for the tour. If you can post this list of shows it would be a big help and don’t forget to come and say Hi !

Bye for now
Sonic

Cool, I'm definitely up for the Chicago gig. Never been to the venue before. Should be a good time. Let me know if anyone else from the board will be attending.

Anyone has a clue as to what direction Sonic is taking Spectrum this time?

I'm a bit gutted he's skipping Detroit altogether  maybe a late date addition will happen? guessing not as there's no open dates when he's in these part and an 8 hour trip to Chicago is out.

Unfortunately there is no Denver date. If that Alburquerque date was on the weekend I would have gone.

Wonder if it's a commitment to US label? Mind you, who wouldn't want to go to the States to get away from this cock English weather?

"the new record is a mix between "Highs Lows and Heavinly Blows" and Spacemen 3's "Perfect Prescription".quote from Spectrum myspace site.

All I can say is..Fuck me! If that delivers could we be looking at a Spacemen 3 reformation for the Pyramid stage at next years Glastonbury with the obligatory South Bank Show?

Come on, it must be 25 years anniversary soon. Let's get it on!

Coming out on Randall's Mind Expansion label in the US.
Chance of it being on Vinita's roketgirl in the UK or SpaceAge I suppose.
Purely speculating about the UK situation.

Last time he was here in the states...it was solo with synths etc(no guitars) though with some vocals(similar to the link that ro posted)...this time Randall from Fuxa is on board and I think its gonna be cool. In January when he was in LA with Fuxa, they did some new Spectrum instrumentals that were coolio.

On a similar note... that Spacemen 3 logo with the spectrum behind it that Pete uses in the "sounds like" section is one that I knocked up at work in a spare ten minutes nine years ago, stuck on the front of my website, and have since seen all over the place - forum avatars, badges for sale on eBay, etc.

Love,

Ian

I just sat there with my eyes shut.

I said hi to Pete.
I'm glad I went.

I was at the gig in LA. New Zealanders Dimmer opened and then local favs Spindrift who were awesome. Spectrum was great! I think with the current live set that he's been doing this year, it helps to have Randall from Fuxa on board. Much tighter than last time by himself. There is some footage on youtube, one video of "The End" that was shot in LA. The new material was real cool. The record and ep will be great.

How were Dimmer? I was a huge Straitjacket Fits fan. This is Shayne Carters new-ish band. I always had a soft spot for New Zealand bands.

Me too - do you know about this NZ music mp3 blog?
http://kiwitapes.blogspot.com/

There's a long new interview with Sonic here:
http://weshotjr.blogspot.com/2007/09/qu ... -boom.html

"Interviewer: What was it that made you wait so long between Spectrum releases?

Sonic: Just timing, alignment of planets and shit like that. It just didn't seem worth it the past few years. It was tough when we released the last album because what people were listening to wasn't in synch with what I was doing, and I've never been one to put what I'm doing in sync with what people are listening to."

Great show by Sonic and Randall at the Polk Street Faire in S.F. Sonic played about an hour set featuring a new Spectrum song and some old gems thrown in. Here is a picture of them on stage, by the way the concert was free ...

The Polk Street Faire was sponsored by New Belgium Brewery, however the Spectrum show was sponsored by KUSF (top indie college radio station) and Hemlock Tavern (bar). Somebody has to pay Sonic ... 8)

Not complaining. I enjoy me some New Belgium beer. I am from Colorado after all. Speaking of San Fran, I just got my tickets for the show, the easy part. Now I have to get that Monday off work, the hard part, and the plane flight.

Colorado is cool, been there twice for the GABF (Great American Beer Festival). It should be happening soon ? LoDo is a cool area and the Wynkoop Brewery is one of my favorites along with Ram Brewery in Boulder.
