Glastonbury
My Glastonbury tickets came this morning and suddenly I'm getting a bit excited about it. Anyone else going to Pilton this year?

Re: Glastonbury
For the first time in over 10 years i didn't get a ticket. I couldn't bring myself to do it. I just can't risk another muddy one. My soul can't take it. Last year nearly killed me.
I hope it's lovely for you guys i reaelly do - the line up's looking better all the time.
I AM sorry but, there's also a big part of me that wants it to rain. . . . (sorry)

Re: Glastonbury
my first time back there since '99 and my very first time with a ticket, will feel strange not having to climb the wall but that seems to be another glastonbury tradition thats died. line up is pretty poor compared to past years but nice to have jason and co finish the weekend off. funnily enough ever year i've missed i always hoped for rain so i wouldn't so feel bad about not being there
hey man theres a hole in my nose where all the money goes
Re: Glastonbury
Yep, shall be there. On the 2 occasions i've missed in the past 16 years i too hoped it would piss down! Sunrise Festival in Somerset was cancelled today due to torrential rain and flooding so hopefully that'll be the bad weather done with down there, although a friend of mine travelled over to it from Ireland so i bet she's severely pissed off.

Re: Glastonbury
It'll probably be quite different for you now they've got the 'super' fence up. also, if it hasn't sold out of tickets it's going to seem very empty compared to glastonbury's in the past! the line up IS looking rather good though, despite the world and his wife going on about jay-z!

Re: Glastonbury
A bit emptier would be utterly ok. They've kept increasing the size / capacity and camping grounds but the centre of "town" remains the same size. Saturday particularly has become an utter nightmare to get around. A bit like the mass fence breakthrough of 95.
I blame mean fiddler (but only coz i'm not going - i'd defend it to the hilt if i were . . . )

Re: Glastonbury
According to a myspace update:
Speaking of Glastonbury, the band's performance on the John Peel stage on Saturday night is being filmed by the BBC, so if you're not able to go to, there's no need to miss out.

Re: Glastonbury
Last year damn near finished me off too, good weekend though!
This is the first one I am missing since 04 mainly because everyone I went with over the last few years couldn’t face another weekend in the Somme.
I also think Michael Eavis’s arrogance and constant sniping at his patrons has finally bitten him on the arse. Fuck him, I hope he loses his shirt on this one.
That said, I sincerely hope everyone who goes this year has the best time and I hope the weather will be fine

That oslo footage was far-superior to normal tv broadcast quality though. Although, I have seen bootlegs before from Glasto where people have got access to the BBC source recordings before they hit the airwaves, so there theoretically could be something out there.......
On another note - that girl from The Zutons is lovely!!!!

just about 30 minutes. Pretty decent stuff - I got it all on DVD so once I can rip it then I'll get it hosted for you all......

Re: Glastonbury
i was there, in the john peel tent and i have to say it was an incredible gig...i think i was on tv for it...i have blonde hair and i was wearing a green flat cap and singing and dancing quite strangely
the light show and the whole performance was absolutely stunning (even managed to show my skeptical friend how amazing jason and the boys are!
strangest of all, about 2 hours before the gig im queuing for a burger at a stall near the john peel tent and who's in front of me buying chips, none other than jason spaceman himself!!! but unfortunatley he left before i could say hello

Re: Glastonbury
Nice story that! It's reassuring to know he's been spotted eating food, haha- as opposed to a 'drugs only' Glasto situation. I saw Spz there in '93 or '94 and was too wasted to remember anything apart from blades of grass. I think I spent the entire weekend face down in a field having a very peculiar and great time. Good as it was, I still wish I could remember that particular gig... everyone tells me it was great and that I enjoyed it. I don't go to Glastonbury since the new fence went up. If I can't climb over there is no point. Being chased was my favourite part. Never did care much about the big stages though. Always used to get lost in the Green Fields and end up visiting strangers in teepees whilst doing every drug known to man.

I agree. Hedspace- the one you ripped is fantastic! "Take Your Time" is currently blowing my mind!

I didn't even mind Soul on Fire (I'm over the acoustic version).
Not sure how Cheapster made it into this take on Spiritualized, "greatest hits" but I'm not complaining! I also like this version of She kissed me bettter than any I've heard.
hell i even like this version of come together.
Must have been a special night

Re: Glastonbury
was a pretty good show tho not as good as the '98 one on the pyramid stage imo even tho the mud was hell that year! like helm said tho was far too quiet but think that was a problem with the john peel tent all weekend, that and knob ends with flags blocking the view of the stage... oh and ds all over the site busting people for the slightest thing, what the hells that all about?? still a great week, site seems quite a bit bigger too and alot more space in the camp sites making it all a bit more comfortable than i remember in the past
hey man theres a hole in my nose where all the money goes
Re: Glastonbury
For some reason i thought they were playing at 9.30 and as i approached the tent was very excited to hear Take Your Time playing then Come Together, i really thought they were going to pull out all the stops with an opening like that. Alas it ended a few minutes later. Have to agree about the sound in that tent, far too quiet all weekend.
Great time was had but it's definitely gotten harder to get drugs the past few years, long gone it seems are the days when you could go up to the stone circle on a Wednesday or Thursday and just sit there for half an hour and have your whole weekend sorted. Would bring my own but when you have to come through customs and look the way i do it's not really advisable!

Re: Glastonbury
If I were to get honest with y'all, I'd say that Weed beats Marching Powder for endurance when it comes to Spiritualized shows. I remember the Marching Powder Show (Actually I don't remember it), but I think I got antsy and went and talked to some friends in the pop corn line at the Vista. Weed always makes Spiritualized sound good to me. Mushrooms or acid sound great. But I've never really tried that for Spiritualized.

You need to download winrar to open RAR files. It's a way of compressing files. And I'd recommend Mediamonkey for a free way of playing, burning and converting FlacsAds wrote:weebobby wrote:Thanks for the upload Hedspace!

Re: Glastonbury
Cheers for the advice gottafire. But, what exactly are FLAC's? Are they just another type of MP3 file or something, better quality perhaps? I'm rather useless when it comes down to the whole MP3/audio files/bit rate thing to be honest, especially when it comes down to whats the best sound quality. I've changed by rip CD settings on Windows Media Player to 470-940 kbps (best quality) but a)haven't really noticed the difference in sound quality and b)find that it vastly reduces the amount of songs I can fit on to my MP3 player (a very old 20 gig Creative Zen). Should I reduce the bit rate a little or should I be using a completely different format altogether? Again, any advice would be appreciated.
EDIT:
Have now downloaded Media Monkey and its playing the Glasto FLAC's...wow! That was pretty easy.
Just gone onto the WinRar site...blimey, which one am I meant to be downloading?!
EDIT (2):
Think I've downloaded WinRar now...God, I'm turning into a computer geek!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLACAds wrote:But, what exactly are FLAC's?
As regards MP3/WMA bitrate and sound quality, that's a debate in the same painful arena as "which is better, Mac or PC"...
On a purely subjective level - what works best for you is what's important: try different bit rates and compare to the source material until you notice a difference. I rip stuff to my MP3 player at 160kbps wma, but that's because I'll be listening where there's more environmental noise than if in a "sat/lying at home listening to music" situation, so a reduction in sound quality is less noticeable: for "proper" listening I'm a complete bitrate fascist
Re: Glastonbury
I use MP3's only for my ipod. I convert Flacs to 320kbs for this purpose but to be honest when you're listening on an mp3 player it doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference til you get around the 128kbs and lower then you can really tell where the quality went.
Like I already said, I burn Flacs straight to disc without the need to convert. This is also how I make copies for people, thus respecting taper wishes. When you burn an MP3 disc you get that horrible gap between songs (not to mention lost data) which kind of takes away the moment when listening to live recordings. I'd much rather make two audio discs and have gapless playback than stick it on one and get that.
The flac vs MP3 thing rages on and on. I prefer Flacs simply because they contain the most data for burning discs. This is where they come into their own. I hope this doesn't turn into another of those debates with all the arguing. Let's just say that tapers give us these things in Flac for a very good reason. Because they contain exactly what was recorded. And that's why we should have respect enough not to distribute these things in lossy formats. Hopefully, what I've just said there will avoid any rehashing of old topics

Re: Glastonbury
The FLAC debate is over. Hahaha. Flacs are just like a container, kind of like a zip file, I think people can put whatever they want into them, like an mp3 or an uncompressed wav file, right?
I use MacFlac.
For me (I'm using iTunes on an iMac), I can tell the difference between digital to vinyl, I don't mind cheap mp3s at all. But I'm a cheapster and my ears are always ringing, so who the hell knows. People say that those big wav files are better for sharing, and than I can convert them however I want. This argument makes sense to me. I'm restricted to a 350 gig hard drive, so I don't have a lot of options other than mp3. If I was less of a cheapster, I think I would just get a big old hard drive for big media files.
In regards to Cheapster, I think it's the actual name of the song which made me disregard it in the past. Shine a Light, Ladies and Gentlemen We're Floating in Space, those songs titles have a ring to them. Cheapster, on the other hand. Is that like a Jeepster?
Regards, David
