king Kahn and the Shrines

Post by ro »

went to see them the other night (based on Ononist's post in my Best Screams thread: THANKS) , A good old fashioned Lewd Loud Lascivious Spectacle which was just what I've been needing.. there's nothing like a pot-bellied tatooed guy in – er, falling out of, rather – gold sequined skivvies setting dollar bills on fire and spewing Jameson over his adoring victims, while also putting the moves on a giant chicken next to his beautiful go-go dancing wife with her everpresent smile while the band plays on in their plastic shrimp or teeth neck gear.

and, they're very very friendly people. had a nice chat afterwards with several of them.

any colorful reports from other KK gigs? I had so much fun.

My pleasure. Where was this? They never play the UK.

For those of you who live in Germany- they play there a lot (or used to a few years ago anyway, I haven't checked recently).

I finally got the Supreme Genius of... album today. This is amazing stuff.

I came across this on the internets. It's BBQ (of The King Khan & BBQ Show). I haven't listened to it yet, but it's supposed to be really good.

"I'm not surprised that we've achieved something because we gave up our life, but we also gained the most incredible life. You give up your life as a normal person, but as soon as you do that, you turn into whatever you want to be. That's what I learned from Sun Ra, that's what I learned from Screamin' Jay Hawkins. You create your own living myth, you follow through and don't ever bow down to anyone who doubts you, you just keep that myth alive. Where is Sun Ra now? He's not in a grave. He's in space. And that's where he wanted to be."

Stunning...
