Detroit 9/7/08

I dont remember the setlist but....

I have seen Spiritualized something like 15-20 times. I am no Deadhead so I dont know the exact amount of shows.
Gone are the full on noise fests of LGM, PP and pre LAGWAFIS shows. Jason is refining his vision. The two back up Gospel singers tie everything up in one nice bow.
What an enjoyable evening.
And kudos to the Detroiters who were reverential and quiet in between songs and during the quiet bits.
Another mindblowing show!

yes, absolutely agree there Spzretent, phenomenal show! Amazing Grace was a brilliant opener. Rated-X was a highlight as well as Lay Back In the Sun. Really great sound, the bass went right through me in all the right ways, the show just seemed too short, don't they always :D . Nice sharing a quick brew and chat with you. 3 hours of sleep and here I am at 6:00 a.m. sitting at work numb grinning like a mad bastard 8)

Lucky me. I just logged on at 9:15am. Ears still a ringin'. Cant stop grinnin'. I think it the fact Jason is so tight w/some Dee-toit bands helped fuel that performance. The Dirtbombs, Paik, Troy Gregory and even Boosty X(Lovemaster, not P Funk crew) all in attendance.

It appears to me that Jason, as I stated before(I think) is someone who has been fine tuning his live thing since day 1. This was equal parts, noise, beauty and uplifting. We were joking after Shine A Light, Welcome to Jason's Perfecting Church.

And how about ther beer selection at St. Andrews Hall? Far and away the best beer selection i've ever seen in a venue. Lagunitas Lumpy Gray, another of those Zappa beers and Stone Arrogant Bastard 22 ounce bottles for $6! No wonder my head hurts so.

Sounds like a great show.
Pitchfork was much fun but am looking forward to the extended set.

Can anyone who attended last night in Detroit tell me how long the opener played for (approximately) and how long Spiritualized played? I a trying to juggle my rush hour traffic to make the most of the evening.

Thanks,

I'm seeing them later this tour... and would like to tape them... but if that's not a possibility, I won't haul my gear to the venue... which is a taper friendly venue... so it's up to the band if they'll allow it. I hope they will!!!

Thanks for the reply!

I saw someone taping. I spoke to him after the show and gave him my email address. He said he didn't really go on-line too often, and didn't really frequent any message boards. If he contacts me, I should be able to get a copy.

^^^Was it "open taping" with a mic stand/mics raised in the air... or was he a low-profile taper with mics on his body? I'm hoping for mic stand... please tell me mic stand. I want to openly tape them with a mic stand when they hit my town... please tell me mic stand...

Sorry, it wasn't a mic stand.

He just held a small recorder at his chest and stood still the entire night.

I was fortunate enough to get a setlist, so here is the set for anyone concerned.

Amazing Grace
You Lie You Cheat
Shine a Light
Cheapster
Soul On Fire
Sweet Talk
Sitting On Fire
Walkin' With Jesus
Oh Baby
Rated X
Lay Back in the Sun
Death Take Your Fiddle
She Kissed Me
Come Together
Take Me to the Other Side
----
Lord Can You Hear Me

It was an excellent show, all things considered. Just felt a bit short.

Hey folks,

I taped the Detroit show (but I'm not the taper mentioned by Mike C) and you can download it from my website. Didn't run a stand or anything like that, but I had a pretty good spot up on the balcony.

Enjoy!

Last night, after an evening with one or two 'jazz' cigarettes, that recording sounded amazing.

Today, being straight again, unfortunately I can no longer hear that insane synthesiser backing, gradually intensifying and gripping the soundstage, allowing the guitars and drums to soar wildly during the opening and closing wig-outs......

Does anyone know what I mean or am I loosing my mind? It sounded more like Spiritualized with Thighpaulsandra. If those sounds are being played at gigs then they need to be louder!
If not, then I know what i need to do before the next gig.....

Still a great great recording though. The mixing of the sound on the night might raise a few eyebrows - not mine though, I was pretty smashed, but there were times when i wondered if the soundman was sleeping on the job!

thank you so much paramnesiac, fine fine work. That could be up there with the best recordings of this years electric action, i wouldnt be surprised if its the best of the lot, considering the performance too.

I was also of the opinion that, at least in LA both the Bowl and Echo, that the keys and whatever samples are on that laptop, should be turned up. especially for Shine a Light, crank that shizz!!

You can get them by going to http://www.semi-live.com/ and hitting the "Other Recordings" tab at the top right. The Spiritualized show is the last one in the list. If that doesn't work, drop me a PM and I'll give you a direct download link.

Thanks so much.
These shows sound very much like the Echo show. The Hollywood Bowl show was a little toned down from the crowd. According to the band it was quite loud on stage, and I was in the 7th row...So I guess the band's experience and my experience were completely different. They thought the Hollywood Bowl was louder and crazier.
BTW I had a great time falling asleep to these wonderful bootlegs.
