Coopersonic Pedals- As used by Spiritualized
Hello all,
As I know that a lot of you good peeps on here are musicians and in bands I thought I would mention the Coopersonic Valveslapper. I've just come across this handbuilt monster of a valve based distortion pedal & it is truly a winner.
http://www.coopersonic.com
If you look on the client list it is in use by our very own Spiritualized, built in Nottingham I guess Mr. Doggen is using it.
I've just taken delivery of a unit and it is a very versatile pedal, loud enough to wake the dead...in China; but has a clairty you just don't get with most pedals. The fuzz is very clear/thick, just how you would want it. I'm using a Fender Twin and a 335 and it sounds immense.
Check em out if you are in the market for a top class, handbuilt distortion pedal, definitely worth it, better than my Zvex box of rock by a long chalk.

Is it a fuzz or a distortion pedal? Looks to me like it's distortion.

Its more like a meaty overdrive but as it has valves driving it, once you start pushing em you get a very generous fuzz on the go that has a v nice tone. Its also considerably louder than Zvex box of rock, Seymore duncan valve dist, Big muff etc etc. Through my Fender twin it sounds immense...

I'm a huge fan of the Yorkshire-based builder, D*A*M: www.stompboxes.co.uk
I've got about ten of his pedals and they're all mind-blowing.

I just went on to that site forgetting my speakers were turned up. I must have woken half the street as well as shitting myself.

I've got one of the original Coopersonic Twin Tube Overdrives I bought used a couple of years ago. I think it is exactly the same circuit as the Valveslapper though originally he supplied it with a couple of Russian made tubes that were not 12ax7's. I think now he is putting in NOS 12AT7's though I'm not completely sure of that.
I've replaced the tubes with a pair of NOS 12au7's. Really cut the gain but this thing sounds glorious. Very amp-like. Still goes from clean boost to overdrive to fuzz. A great pedal. Kind of JTM 45ish until a somewhat muffish fuzz kicks in. Very touch sensitive. Dynamic. Still pretty damned loud even with the 12au7's.
Worth your money!

I've got the valveslapper too. And by god, do I love it!
Been using it a fair bit to record with lately. The big muff's been knocked off the board (sorry big muff)!

Re: Coopersonic Pedals- As used by Spiritualized
I read a review in one of the UK guitar mags recently, and it sounded very impressive - quite refreshing to see a pedal using valves in anger, rather than the more common and considerably less effective 'starved plate voltage' design.
I can see him selling a lot on the back of recent publicity, and considering how cheap it is compared to even non-boutique similar transistor pedals.
I really hope he doesn't put the price up, as I could see myself fancying one in the distant future. However with the exception of my looper, I don't think I've ever paid more than £50 for any one pedal, and usually a lot less - hence it would be a considerable outlay, but I could maybe see it providing a great guitar preamp stage for my big bass amp if needed live, or the same for direct recording purposes, to lay down a dry(ish) track ready for reamping or processing through someone else's more upmarket gear.
Does anyone experienced with the Valveslapper think this might work, or is it pushing the versatility envelope rather too much?

I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

Man, I love that Super Bee pedal out of Yorkshire! Now, that's the kind of fuzz that just warms my soul and makes me feel all fuzzy inside. I also dig the Red Rooster and Fuzz rong pedal.
