Speaking as someone who lives in a flood-risk area I feel it harder than many when it chucks it down. Got a flood warning from the Environment Agency for further up the river from here earlier. I am just preying it doesn't reach this far, but it has done on many occasions in the past. Fingers crossed!

Er, none. We just live near a river and have to cope with it. We have a pile of sandbags and flood boards that we get out if there's a risk. Some of those we leave up all the time as the sandbags weigh a ton and moving them isn't that easy. It's just the way it is here - apart from the flood risk it's a brilliant spot!

The past week we have woken up to frosty cars and freezing fog. As the day continues the fog clears but it is cold and drizzly. That's Portland...it rains a lot here.

It poured rain almost all day here in San Diego. No, I'm serious...it did. Actual rain. Not drizzle. Large amounts of it. All day.

It still sounds like I'm making it up...

I can't remember a day without rain here in Yorkshire for weeks. Even on sunny days a downpour ensues at some point.

Flood boards are at the ready!

Sounds very similar to western Oregon. By contrast, eastern Oregon is a high desert and rarely gets rain.

Portland has dry(ish) summers but the rain is persistent often from November until early July. It's so wet that by March or April our back yard feels like a sodden sponge and the trees have thick, fluorescent moss on them. Every other summer I also have to get a thick carpet of moss off my roof.

Thankfully we are on a hill so flooding isn't a problem. But, landslides are!

Been snowing off and on since Monday. The mountains are getting hammered but nothing too exciting in Portland. Yesterday we had about 3 inches and this morning we have 6-8 inches at around 500+ ft (but in the city, which is on the valley floor there is only about an inch). My kids school just called to say that they are on a two-hour delay start because of the snow. Amazingly, even though we are surrounded by two different mountain ranges, a little bit of snow in the city is enough to freak people out. Maybe it is all the Californians who moved up here?

12 degrees fahrenheit in Chicago this morning. As long as we don't get any more large quantities of snow, I won't complain.

First decent bit of snow here over the weekend and took the Kids (aged 6) and the brother-in-law (aged 42) for their first ever sledging. Great stuff. It's all gone, now.

Cold and wet here in the Pacific Northwest. The rain keeps changing to big, fat, wet snow flakes.

We have had over a weeks worth of not spring weather but summer weather.
8 straight days of 70 to 80 degree weather and sunny to boot.
I am in a t shirt, shorts and flip flops and have been all week.
Love it!
Sad thing is we could still get snow before spring is over.
But i'll take this.

2,500 miles due west of Detroit and it is very, very wet, cold and we even had sleet and snow flurries in the past 24 hours. So far this month we have had 4.1 inches of rain, which is double the average. Since January we have had nearly 14 inches of rain, which is about 4 inches more than the norm. So, it's been a tad soggy here.

But, apparently we might hit 60 on Saturday with some sun. I'm not a sun worshiper but I think I might need the vitamin D.

Guess I'm in a similar boat as Alan. The weather in Chicago has been very weird lately. HOT!!! It's been in the 80's. Last night I could barely sleep due to the heat and humidity. I could deal with a nice spring before we go straight into uncomfortable temperatures.

It hasn't stopped raining here today and now it has turned to snow. Currently about 1/2 inch on the ground but it's snowing pretty good.

What is this yellow ball of light that emits warmth from the sky?

It's been awhile since we have seen the sun around these parts but here we are nearing 60f and it is so bright it hurts the eyes. I now have to get out on to my roof and clear the debris of leaves and branches that have accumulated since the past five months of rain, wind and snow.

Better get the sun cream...my pasty skin hasn't seen this much sun since October.

19C today in sunny Liverpool. Took the kids for a stroll around Chester zoo, partly to get out in the sun, and partly to get the ringing out of my ears after White Hills last night.....

Absolutely gorgeous today. Sunny and nearly 60f. After my sister passed my folks decided to move closer to us and have been in Portland now for nearly a year. I spent the afternoon drinking beer and watching some NCAA basketball with my dad at two different pubs. Very nice.

Had a wonderful day on my lonesome yesterday in the garden cutting grass, hedges, trees and doing all the weeding in the gorgeous sunshine while Tame Impala, Paperhead, White Hills, Uncle Acid and various others boomed out... absolutely chilled and enjoyable day. Looking good for most of this week too; just a shame i'm in the office for most of it!

Still sunny here in Portland and mid-high 50's. Really enjoying it. Looking at the forecast though...rain is on its way.

Yesterday was gloriously sunny and 62f. Had the windows open, back door open....raked, swept our patio and mowed the lawn. Filled the bird feeders with seed and the hummingbird feeder with sugar water. After so much rain in March it was nice to feel fresh air through the house, hear the songbirds singing and see the chipmunks and squirrels.

Today, Easter morning, it is partly cloudy but dry with beams of sun making its way to the ground. The thin, whispy clouds should hopefully burn off by this afternoon. I love the rain and would miss if I lived in someplace like Southern California but after months of grey and heavy rain I do look forward to our dry season.

Well, after nearly 8 inches of rainfall in the month of March the two days of sun we had this weekend was a welcome relief. Honestly, my back yard is like a bog.

Wonderful weekend of weather here. Mid/high 60's...sunny. Spent most of today weeding the garden and cleaning out the car. Just got back from a family walk along the river in downtown Portland and an ice cream cone. Now back at home, sitting outside in the sun watching the busy birds while I drink a tea and listen to 'Easter Everywhere'. :D

66 here today. Tomorrow will be 76 and then moving into the 80's for the next week or so. Like I said, consistently warm, dry summer weather never seems to hit Portland until July 5th.

The weather in England is getting beyond a joke now. We've had got knows how many days of rain and we're one of the luckier counties at the moment. Its getting depressing now and the experts are saying we've got at least another 2 weeks of it. I probably say this nearly every year but I'm sure this is the worst summer (well June and July anyway) I can remember. Been trying to get a job on a roof done for the last 2 weeks and I've lost count of the times we've had to take shelter or gone home soaked to the bone. I never realised global warming would be like this!

The place we rented in Spain burnt down in the bushfires near Valencia. I took the phonecall from the landlord in the midst of torretial pissings here in tropical Liverpool. It sort of put my moaning about the rain into context really.....

We've had a beautiful August here in Portland but this week has been far too hot for me. 95f yesterday, 100f today and 102f forecast for tomorrow. Thankfully, a cool down is expected by the weekend with temps back in 80's. I can't imagine this extreme heat lasting for weeks or months. I feel for those who have had to endure weather like this throughout much of the summer.

Above 90 for the umpteenth day in a row... Luckily, unlike what you said spzretent, we've got a hot dry breeze blowing. And luckily for me, I'm a ten minute walk to my favorite swimming hole/river, where I just had a lovely dip along with about a dozen diving merganzers.
Too bad that halfway home I was already all heated up again.
Ice, fan, wine, water...

Well, we just returned from a two week holiday that started in LA then took us to Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Sedona (Arizona) and eventually Phoenix. We had an absolutely wonderful time and saw and did so much with our kids who are now at the age where they can appreciate it.

Saying that...I guess I am a wimp because even 88f degrees in LA the sun seemed so intense compared to 88f in Portland. At least it cooled down in the evening though. Las Vegas was 110f and Phoenix 107f but it never cooled down! Quite honestly, walking down the Vegas strip at 11:30pm and it was still 96f was flippin' horrible. During the day the sun and heat literally felt like a furnace. My skin (and my wife's) are far too pale for it so we were constantly putting sun cream on both us and our kids. We had a lovely time but I much prefer the more temperate Pacific Northwest. Also, I will take extreme cold over extreme heat any day. At least you can wrap up when it is cold. When it is that hot you really can't do anything other than go into artificial air conditioning.
