Detroit Red Wings

Post by spzretent »

Just when you think you have seen it all.
Us Red Wings fans have been spoiled the 25 or so years. Six Trips to the Stanley Cup finals. Four Stanley Cups.
They have set the bar pretty high not only for the NHL. But for North American sports in general. At least the past 25 years anyway.
Tonight they set the NHL record for most consecutive wins at home. 21 wins in a row at home. Especially in "this" NHL. A salary cap NHL which is supposed to breed parity. And it does.
Tonight I just sat back in amazement as this record was set.
Well done.

That's an impressive record. I wish my team would do that - instead they played even shitter than normal and lost to the bottom club in dreary fashion last night.

Lucky you aren't a biker or you'd be expecting something else.

The Red Wings used to be accused of being the Yankees of the NHL. Trade deadline day would hit and they would trade for a lot of older stars. Those were trades. Not free agent signings.
2002 they made one huge trade and signed a few of the available superstars and won a cup.
Since then they have had to work under a salary cap. Same cap as every other NHL team. We have one of the best general managers in all of sports. They are always near the top of the league and have made the playoffs like 20 years in a row.
Last night was just a night to sit back and appreciate what a team they put out on the ice year after year after year.
I truly feel blessed to have this as "my" team.
Next up baseball season! Same owner.

As a Browns & Indians fan I must have done something truly bad in a former life. But, I firmly believe that you can't change your team so...I'm kinda stuck with them.

Pretty incredible run... In my opinion it equals the others since back then you did not have overtime and shootouts.

Still waiting for 60 W's ;)

I have to say that the wings are such a great depth team. What an amazing last 15 years this team has had and I
really see them not giving up for the next 5...

Should be proud Alan!

I was at the game last night. My first home game in over 3 years.
Call me the streak breaker.
I have never seen the Wings play as crap a first period at home as I did last night. Out shot 17-4 yet somehow up 1-0.
It was an incredible run. Now they can get back to concentrating on the playoffs.
It did get fans attention and really make them appreciate just how good they have been for what seems like forever.
I would not be surpised to see a shake up by trading deadline.
