I saw this too. Another example (imo) why American football is more dangerous than rugby. The collisions can be top speed.

But, In the NFL it probably would have been a penalty (helmet to helmet), 15 yards and Wolverine ball. I know it's a clean hit but because of his head jerk and the helmet flying off I think they would have thrown the flag.

Without helmets that would have involved a hospital visit! Ouch indeed...

Mind you have you watched any Australian Rules? For me that's probably the hardest ball game there is.

I went to watch Richmond play on a regular basis when I lived in Melbourne. I simply couldn't believe the level of contact that came under the description "fair bump". What amazed me though was the amount of work the Aussie Rules players get through, 18 a side for the best part of 100 minutes on a cricket pitch running around smashing seven bells out of each other. Really great game to watch, although I always seemed to end up living near Collingwood supporters, which is never good.....

Part of the danger with Aussie Rules is that the players race around looking up in the air (which is where the ball is a lot of the time) so they can often run into each other at high speed.

I loved it when I lived in Melbourne for 4 months...
