Manchester City Academy

Post by spacemanrich »

Manchester City just opened their new training facility ( the best in the world ) - Manchester City Academy.

16.5 pitches, yes 16.5 pitches, including the largest indoor pitch in the U.K., 3 world class gyms and a four-star hotel.

They will be used by 450 players each week ( professional, women and youth academy prospects ).

They researched and visited over 70 training facilities and narrowed it down to 19 designs before choosing the final one. Pablo Zabaleta was surprised by the enormity of it and said that he would rather spend 8-9 hours there than at home. This will definately attract prospective players in the future.

Sinkhole for money.

Worth a thread??

It does raise the point about the production of youth players/value for money/legacy issues.
Look @ say Ajax early 90's/utd's golden gen & barca's team of the past decade: these are the exceptions & none of those clubs look like repeating that stroke of fortune & no others have come close to emulating it.. City would've been better splashing that cash on some cron sized galacticos..??

It's just another advertisement at the end of the day. They'll produce footballers to sell on & might luck onto some superstars. Meh.
Wish I was that rich tho. 200 mil or so would be about enough I reckon. A billion would be better obv, but I'm not greedy..

Jack...may I refer you to Lezama.

I feel a lot of clubs would benefit from doing it the Basque way
