I love this album! 'Fever' is also worth picking up. Sadly, Rachel is no longer in the band but I saw them live with White Hills last September and while I missed her voice and manic presence they were still bloody brilliant!

I stumbled on two brilliant heavy funk albums today. I ended up paying a bit more than I would have wanted or liked to have paid. BUT, that is what happens when you find original LP's of something you love and you want to replace old cassettes or cd-r's that friends made you years ago.

Fugi - Mary, Don't Take Me on No Bad Trip ($20)
Betty Davis - Nasty Gal ($30)

The record dealer of the bins where I found these two albums was there and he told me an interesting story about the Betty Davis LP. Apparently he drives all over the country buying records from people and he found this particular record out in St. Louis, Missouri. It was at a small independent record store that was going under and they offered their stock to dealers before a rival store bought them up. So, he drove out there and bought hundreds of LP's, this being one of them. Today was his first day back and he had only just put it out a few minutes before I walked in. It's a fairly rare, hard to find record but I am sure some of the price is helping pay for his trip to the midwest!

I now have to convince my wife of the investments!

I always appreciate suggestions made, or recommendations of albums or selections I may have overlooked (or not even been aware of!) - So I DO read, and then quite often order or find that "special" release that has captured the imagination of others; this is a Great Site for that small sliver alone of what is offered here. I too try to present pieces that may have escaped notice for others to enjoy, as I have enjoyed them. They are USUALLY but not Always in the "Last few items..."; I will keep doing so; Music is wonderful to share!

Get the hankies out before you listen to the version of 'The Longing' on this record. One would have to be emotionally numb not to feel Everett's pain as he sings this song.

OK, redcloud - a hankie it is; I won't use my sleeve, I will be more dignified;

I just received yet another box from "lilmoxie.com", and after spending time replacing all of the resealable plastics, (old habit), with NEW ones, and doing a tiny bit of rearranging, I need another set of cabinets; there is just no doubt about it. I prefer a type of Glass Fronted Cabinet; they are really quite nice, and protect the discs from dust (and Mastiff slobber).

I was VERY pleased with, of all Things, Vera Lynn's "Songs of the Blitz", a 1962 release on "His Master's Voice", (or RCA as I have known it, except on UK devices, phonographs, gramophones and of course, earlier recordings). A Great song list that will likely sound as though I am watching every UK movie of WWII. I have always admired British resilience, (and I liked
Vera Lynn's singing when I was a boy).

I received shirts that I had ordered earlier, (I rarely wear the shirts, they are almost always for the collection), with some exceptions; but the David Gilmour Tour 1984 (too small for me) is a GREAT shirt; another shirt from CBGB's, is a shirt I MIGHT just wear.

Time is always just too short! Damn. I am, at this "time" otherwise Overwhelmed, but wanted "lilmoxie" to get the credit for great music and assorted "Things". :D
(Plus, it IS always nice to know when you may require a hankie instead of your sleeve or the tablecloth). :D

I am also thankful to a number of people, you know who you are, for suggestions and critiques of various additions to the Arkiv.

HAVE FUN!

Bought 5 CDs this weekend at Fopp in Edinburgh. Been buying vinyl almost exclusively recently but at £5 each couldn't resist.

Eels - Beautiful Freak
Eels - Daisies of the Galaxy
The Twilight Sad - Forget the Night Ahead
Moon Duo - Mazes
Tame Impala - Innerspeaker

Heard many good things about Eels here so been meaning to give them a listen. Certainly not disappointing so far, don't know why I didn't give them a go before. Fopp have quite a few of their back catalogue at this price at the moment, saw Electroshock Blues, and End Times there also.

Well worth your dollar (or pound). The former being his masterpiece the latter being his greatest work since ESB. That said, everything in between those two albums as well as the two that bookend them are also worthy purchases with glorious songs. Imho, the Eels are absolutely essential listening.

Leonard Cohen - Old Ideas
John Barry - Midnight Cowboy
Nirvana - Unplugged
The Cure - Wish
13th Floor Elevators - Psychedelic... (Sundazed)

I bought so many this month so I just picked 5 I could remember.

Vinyl copies of Penthouse usually sell on ebay for $100 or so. You scored. Amazon definitely does not have copies of that in stock and I have not heard of any reissues.

I believe it's the original I - IV box set, but in mp3 format from amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/United-States-L ... 357&sr=8-4

I would love to acquire it on vinyl, but a tenner for the music itself is wonderful value.

Nice! - is that the Meathead?

Here's my DIY One Knob Fuzz built in an old microscope light control unit; box is a bit on the large size, especially given that the OKF circuit can fit on a postage stamp, but it was a fun project and I found a use for some old kit i was chucking out at work.

Wow!!!! Beautiful. PM me. I'll take one like that if you've got more crazy enclosures. The one-knobber is a Dick Denny-designed circuit. It's not the Meathead.

Walked into a wee market in Bellshill yesterday and found a pet shop that had a selection of CDs for sale.... including a pile on the floor which included Ladies And Gentlemen... and the first Verve album. They also had a selection which included The Flaming Lips, The Dandy Warhols, Rory Gallagher, Grateful Dead, The Beta Band, Pink Floyd, Stones, Zeppelin. I was in a daze. Can't believe it.

So ended up walking out with The Verve's debut, A Dandy Warhols album, compilation of first three Floyd singles on CD and Zep's Houses Of The Holy for the astonishly good price of £4.... £1 each...

A pet shop... FFS!!!!

I believe it's the original I - IV box set, but in mp3 format from amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/United-States-L ... 357&sr=8-4

I would love to acquire it on vinyl, but a tenner for the music itself is wonderful value.

ABSOLUTELY; She does so much "ELECTRONIQUE" that a digital copy can't be bad! :D

GNOD: Chaudenlande I and II
Dirty Three: Toward The Low Sun
Sylvester Anfang II: Perzische Anfang II
The New Lines: all that we see and seem

About 20 Julian Cope LPs, 12" and 10" singles from eBay for buttons
Brain Doner: Drained Boner

A shitload of stuff from Spzretent (Thanks Alan)

And a load of classical LPs (mostly Martinu) and 1980s stuff (Associates, Talk Talk etc) in pristine condition at 50p a record from my local charity shop. Half of it had never been played by the looks of it. I bought a load of unopened jazz records too, but there were too many to carry home, so I can't list those. I love charity shops!!! I did have to leave a hefty donation to settle my feelings of guilt though.....

Nice ebay haul of 17 brand new cd's from the Ochre label featuring EAR, Land Of Nod, Stylus, 90 Degrees South and Family of God plus some others. It worked out around €3.50 inc. p&p per cd. :D

I always hate replying on this thread after Semisynthetic as it always make my purchases seem rather insignificant in comparison

Anyway, here are the last 5 records I've splashed out on (both the Wooden Shjips records courtesy of Spzretent too):-

Mark Lanegan - Blues Funeral (a forum favourite and I can understand why)
Gnod - Chaudelande Volumes 1 & 2
Wooden Shjips - Remixes 12"
Wooden Shjips - Dos

Oh, come on! :D You have recordings I would LOVE to get a copy of! I have seen YOUR posts over time -NOT BAD AT ALL!
It is wonderful to see the variety and eclectic tastes of those who frequent this site; and I am VERY glad to FINALLY get certain originals that I did not have. I have the Dutch copy of "Dream Weapon"; NOT the Original; and I have patiently waited, and since found an exceptional original. My girls, now in a post graduate school, admitted to me last break how they learned Patience from ME! I was very happy about that; and when I asked "HOW", they presented me with my little book, dated back many years, and how I was just like a little kid on his birthday, when that "certain" item finally appeared; like a SEALED "Eclection" or "Moby Grape" LP, even after 40+ years. I am glad that I am on a site where it is so OBVIOUS the Love of Music is quite Real, and a part of your day, and many others. That is VERY NICE Indeed.
:D

HAVE FUN!

I really like this album. It and 'Carnival' are probably my two favorite Michaels albums (with 'Barrel' a close second).

I'm listening to Screaming Trees- Dust to see if I want to plunk down for a 180 gram vinyl issue.
Oh my lord I forgot just what a monster this record is.
The answer is an emphatic YES!
I miss this band.

Any more details on this? Has it been remastered? I ask only as it has no need to be - it's got a great, epic sound just the way it is...

I think just the transfer to vinyl worked great on Sweet Oblivion. Probably not remastered.

I just ordered Dust and get this...Mercury Rev- Boces was given the 180 gram vinyl reissue treatment.
I ordered them both. Hopefully they did as good a job on these LPs as they did on Sweet Oblivion.

Yeah, that looks pretty darn good. Just noticed they've got a possible London date lined up on their upcoming shows list on that site. Hopefully they might even add a Brighton date if they're venturing down this way... never seen them live.

Ha ha!!! :D Same as you, £20. And I don't know if the merch guy was saying this to everyone but apparently I bought the last one. Whether he meant for that night or the tour as a whole, or if he was actually even telling the truth I'm not sure. Though when I went past the merch stall at the end of the night there was no sign of anymore of that album.
