Will do. Strangely, all their albums, except their newer ones, are relatively difficult to track down. I don't think they press in large numbers but they have also been on a variety of labels over the years (English, Australian and American).

If in doubt, I am driving up to Seattle at the end of July to see them play. I'm sure I can get one then.

Redcloud turned me on to GP, too. I like Northern Gothic best. Serious McCartney basslines on that one!

A lot of people think of the Original Sins as a '60s psyche band but I think Big Soul is proof that they transcend that genre and hit something undefinably great in the process. The Original Sins share something with some of the greats: Them, Love, 13th Floor Elevators, Big Star, Velvets, Stooges, and the Replacements. What that is is a direct line from the heart of the singer to the soul of the listener. Be prepared.

Like a few on here, thought I'd treat myself to

Can The Lost Tapes

Made it through the first set so far. Gloriously strange. The first three tracks alone are like a primer for the early Can sound. This'll be one to drink deep from over time I think.

Phil Spector - Phil Spector's Greatest Hits (vinyl)

Queen - Jazz (remaster) - Just for 'Fat Bottomed Girls' really...

Gene Vincent - Gene Vincent (1970) - Late roots/country album.

And... this!

Gone a bit E-Bay crazy in the last week and picked up the following, all on vinyl:-

New Order - Lowlife
New Order - Technique
Mogwai - Mr Beast
Mogwai - Young Team

Also, away from the evil, addictive world of E-Bay I've managed to pick up the Smoke Drip EP by Carlton Melton and pre-ordered the Gnod 7" from Trensmat.

It's my 40th at the end of the month so may be a few more additions to the ever-expanding vinyl collection too(fingers crossed!).

It was my 40th yesterday (how the fuck did that happen? ) and, thanks to a combination of a well compiled birthday list (yes, I am an only child before anyone asks!), a brilliant girlfriend and very generous friends and family, I now have in my possession all of the following (all on vinyl of course!):-

Chris Robinson Brotherhood - Big Moon Ritual
Mogwai - The Hawk Is Howling
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (deluxe remaster)
Simon Price - Kandodo
Eternal Tapestry - Dawn in 2 Dimensions
White Mana - S/T
Sun Araw, M Geddes Gengras & The Congos
Augustus Pablo - This is...
Brian Jonestown Massacre - Aufheben
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Howl (remaster)
The Flaming Lips - Heady Fwends
Cian Ciaran - Outside In

Not a bad haul all in all.... I should turn 40 more often! Currently listening to them one by one through my new headphones and typing this on my new I-pad. I truly have been spoilt rotten. Got to take advantage before the baby arrives in January

Neneh Cherry and The Thing - The Cherry Thing:
Wow! Musically this sounds like a Treader recording with a pop edge - magnificent vocals from Neneh Cherry and covers of the likes of Suicide, Stooges ('Dirt'!) and the awesome Martina Topley-Bird. Rev and Vega's 'Dream Baby Dream' is just something else, a day glo psychedelic mantra.

Rolling Stones - Brussels Affair:
official bootleg live thing from 73, amazing quality, great version of 'Gimme Shelter'...

Spiritualized - Little Girl 7"

ha that's precisely the next two I was gonna get! been reading about the band and apparently those three compliment each other quite well. I know the 'prog' tag may make people run a mile but I think Crimson are understood a little bit. this is dark, discordant, often just plain rocking music. some of its close to proto jazz-metal! there's also some great moments of floating ambience but with a disconcerting, spooky edge.

They do indeed complement each other - I see them as almost a trilogy. King Crimson might get tagged as 'prog', and some of their earlier stuff does conform to the faeries and wizards stereotype, but these albums are something entirely different - bleak and forbidding and seriously intense. Red was apparently one of Kurt Cobain's favourite records.

Little Girl 7" on its way as well.

Just picked up a mint vinyl copy of the Fucked Up Inside off the wall at Amoeba Hollywood. So happy that I finally found it. Sounds incredible on vinyl. I paid more on it than I've paid for a single record in quite a while, but the price was reasonable.

Finally found a copy of lgm, just in time for my show today!!! It's the recent reissue, and there's actually a lot of surface noise/popping, but oh well! I'll try to give it a good cleaning sometime before my show. Also found a copy of GSYBE's f#a#8
(on phone, can't type infinity sign), haven't gotten to give it a listen yet, but I'm excited.

Have had another bout of vinyl buying madness in recent weeks. Not quite a list to rival one of Semisynthetic's but quite a large one nonetheless.

This little lot were off of E-Bay:-

Neil Young - Tonight's The Night
Grateful Dead - American Beauty
Crazy Horse - S/T
Ride - Fall EP
Spacemen 3 - Playing With Fire (embossed cover of course  )
Super Furry Animals - Love Kraft
British Sea Power - The Decline of British Sea Power

And this lot I've obtained through friends on here, from my local record store and from a gig:-

Eat lights;Become Lights - Heavy Electrics (thanks They Transmit/Neil)
The Aliens - Luna (thanks Spzretent)
Moon Duo/Psychic Ills - Split 7"
Spacemen 3/Sun Araw - Split 7"
Spiritualized - Little Girl 7"
Woods - At Echo Lake

And now I'm trying to convince Mrs Shines to go up to London for Spitalfields record fair next Sunday

A few things I did not list above; from Here and There and lilmoxie.com, too.

SPZ - "Little Girl"/ "I am what I am" (instrumental) 7" Double Six label; UK 2012
Cosmic Symbol "Holding the Negative Up to the Light" #284/300 w/ insert GPS, Very Nice Packaging.
Fuxa "Electric Sound of Summer/ "Thank You Jesus" 7"
The Pretty Things "Savage Eye" [sealed] 1976 LP Swan Song label PROMO
Eclection "Eclection" (another [sealed] "for reserve only" copy]) original; Elektra label 1968 LP
Der Blutharsch/ Death in June 7" BROWN vinyl; "untitled"; ltd to 100 copies; Austrian [new]
Der Blutharsch/ Death in June Live in Rome 1991; Austrian; [BROWN] vinyl; ltd to 300 copies; [new]
The Incredible String Band "Wee Tam" Original US LP Elektra Red Label
Thirty Days Out "Miracle Lick" 1972 White Label PROMO US LP Psych
WKNR 1968 Contact News LP [sealed]
The Incredible String Band "The Big Huge" original USA LP Elektra Red Label
Pink Floyd Box CD Set "Oh, by the Way"; GERMAN Box set, w/ German Sticker. [sealed]
Pink Floyd "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" LP Pic Disc EMI; [sealed] - DIFFERENT from the LP Pic Disc Box Set (Spain) Pink Floyd "A Saucerful of Secrets" LP Pic Disc EMI; [sealed] - DIFFERENT from the LP Pic Disc Box Set (Spain)
[Actually, a "complete" set of Pink Floyd Pic Discs from around the world arrived; several variations of DSOTM, WYWH, & a 7" PROMO ONLY White WALL Pic Disc - 1980 (Brazilia); & a White Vinyl "Excerpts from THE WALL"; Radio Only 7"; USA]. "The Final Cut" was not pressed; but IT IS included in the Pic Disc BOX SET.
I asked for (most) of these almost 3 years ago; and each New disc arrived [sealed] and Very Well Done. These were, for the most part, PROMO discs, with (1) VERY suspicious "**ROIO" which was a great "bootleg" of the South American "DSOTM" release.
They really should have had their "listed Labels" on the disc correctly done... :D

Elvis Presley "His Hand in Mine" 1960; RCA [still sealed!] :o USA; A Beautiful Gospel LP. A "75th Ann." Japanese LP of this release is available, and the sound is as phenonmenal as the Original 1960 "Living Stereo" LP, (assuming each disc is pristine).

**"ROIO" is "Record Of Indeterminant Origin". Some shops & individuals shrink away upon hearing the term "bootleg", which I personally prefer.

Have Fun!

Been on another country music jag, filling out my Merle Haggard collection

Webb Pierce - A Proper Introduction To...
Merle Haggard - 1994
Merle Haggard - 1996
Merle Haggard - What A Friend We Have in Jesus
Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Ray Price - Last of the Breed
Merle Haggard - Blue Jungle

The last one is marked on the jewel case as "Merle's first newly recorded album of the 1990's," which I found oddly amusing.

Cat Power: Sun
Cat Power: You Are Free
Dead Can Dance: Anastasis
Eat Lights Become Lights: Heavy Electrics

The first three LPs released on Deep Distance, the names of which escape me and are hard to find in the artwork!

Plus lots of Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell CDs, all of which are truely excellent.

Yes they are. Sadly though, live the two didn't work for me. I caught them after the first album and then again after the second (missed when they came around with 'Hawk'), but still neither gig was great. I guess I expected more chemistry between the two but it wasn't there. The first gig I saw Isobel was very nervous and there could have been a wall between the two. She was more relaxed the second time around but still, no sexual tension or chemistry between them at all. Still, the songs/albums are fucking ace.

With his love of country I reckon Jadams would really enjoy these records too.

Not really surprised that the Mark Lanegan and Isobel Campbell stuff didn't translate into a live setting. The music is so soft and quiet that I could only really see it happening if they played in my living room while we watched from the sofa. I had the same issue with some of Neil Halstead's solo shows. He was so quiet you could hardly hear him over the background noise. Bloody impossible gigs to record.

With the Discussion of Country & Western genre, the following 'nifty' set arrived last week;
( I opened it Sunday ):

Roy Acuff- 1949 PROMO SET; (1) 10" 78RPM (still ["sealed"] in an unperforated sleeve); & (2) "Roy Acuff" 2 color Concert Posters, each dated February 1949 and numbered (sequentially); and (1) INCREDIBLY vague promo-sheet which builds up Mr. Acuff beautifully, but does not say what is contained on the 78RPM in the [sealed] sleeve, when the concert takes place, OR any listing whatsoever of the new release! All "As NEW" in a neatly Boxed "Hyped" promo-marked package.

Patsy Cline - "Crazy". 10" 78RPM equivalent of a test pressing; just "Patsy Cline - CRAZY" written w/ a black wax marker upon the otherwise blank, light pink label. A handwritten note accompanies the single sided disc. Obviously well cared for; since under the stereomicroscope, the grooves are clean, without any evidence of play.

AND something Interesting, a MOVIE POSTER from a DRIVE-IN THEATRE, of Elvis Presley in "The Trouble w/ Girls", w/ a second film "written in" the white space below "JOHN WAYNE in "The Man Who Killed Liberty Valence". The poster was never "displayed" at the theatre, but was framed during the 1960's.

There was also another Elvis Poster included, a "BANNED by RCA" Fan-Club photo of Elvis "entering orbit", or beyond; very clearly "Well, Well, Well" c. 1972.........

(PLUS (11) 78RPM Gospel Discs, from 1939-1942; all are pressed on various colored discs, all are still in "unperforated" [sealed] sleeves.)

Cat Power - Sun
Chris Robinson Brotherhood - Magic Moon
Chromatics- Kill For Love
Angus Stone - Broken Brights
The Flaming Lips - and Heady Fwends
Eat Lights Becomes Light - Heavy Electrics

all on vinyl, the Chromatics one being lovely pink vinyl, Cat Power clear vinyl and Flaming Lips sort of multi coloured tye-dye sorta vinyl, looks great! and of course elbl's triple coloured vinyl.
But I must say that the plain black records of Angus Stone's album contain the best music. And it's a very good pressing, too. 8)

I've only listened to it once, but I like it: it's in the same vein as Embryonic, that same sorta fuzzy sound. And the 'hewdy friends' themselves all sound like wayne, somehow :-)

Alan, do you rate the new Sun Araw higher than Ancient Romans? I have still not succeeded in getting excited about that album and I'm hesitant to spend more money on Sun Araw releases.

I would! But im a bit of a fanboy... It's a It's it more fun, and certainly easier to digest. The tracks that book and the album I think might be the weakest, though still very good - the middle four songs are all SWEET.

Bob Dylan - Tempest
Upon first listen - s'alright. Probably needs a few more listens (at least) but I do love his version of 'Mannish Boy'. Christ - he sounds like he's at least 200 years old doesn't he. Still a pretty awesome voice though.

TOY - S/T
I imagine this would appeal to a few round here. Amalgamation of all the best bits of psychedelic rock, krautrock and even the dreaded 'shoegaze'. Great debut album though - caught them live with The Scream in Dunoon earlier this year.

John Coltrane - Infinity
Beautiful. Originally released posthumously, this is a reissue of a 'remix' album featuring mid-60's JC recordings with added orchestra and instrumentation by Alice Coltrane.

Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - Lawless OST
Stumbled on this by pure chance - Cave, Ellis and Co refashioned as a country-blues band, featuring the likes of Emmylou Harris and Mark Lanegan on vocals, doing covers of Beefheart, Townes Van Zandt, Polydor era Link Wray ('Fire & Brimstone') and maybe best of all... 'White Light/White Heat'. Inspired.

Possibly last records for a bit. Big changes imminent...!

Caught a little bit of their headline set on the second stage at Festival Number 6 and wasn't that impressed to be honest. Certainly didn't make me want to rush out and grab the album but I may need to give them another try.

As for the imminent big changes.... are we talking of the possibility of BZA Jr? If so, congratulations. I'm going to be a first time Dad too in January and am trying (and failing) to curb my record buying as we'll. if I've completely misread your post then sorry, and good luck with whatever else it is.

Neil Young - Ragged Glory LP, great condition and a good price for this. can sometimes be a little pricey.
The Allah-Las - s/t LP. Recommendation form this board, I've been playing this quite a bit.
Eat Lights Become Lights - Heavy Electrics. Haven't gotten around to playing this yet, only heard Bound for Magic Mountain so far on and it's fantastic.
Divine Fits - A Thing Caslled Divine Fits. New band formed from members of Spoon, Wolf Parade and New Bomb Turks. I'm a big Spoon fan but never heard of the other two bands so was curious to hear what Britt Daniels from Spoon was up to in the absence of new Spoon material. Only played it once while cooking but sounds good, lots of synths but doesn't sound like the 80s new wave synth-sound that's currently in vogue.
