Had some time to waste when waiting for my son to finish band practice so I decided to walk into a record store. Hmmm...dangerous decision. I managed to pick up a few "newer" things that I have had my eye on recently:

Peter Daltrey & Asteroid #4 - "The Journey"
Jonathon Wilson - "Fanfare"
Mazzy Star - "Seasons Of Your Day"

Spiritualized Electric Mainline - Pure Phase Tones for DJs
Spiritualized - Amazing Grace EP
Spring Heel Jack - Treader (triple vinyl)

Some gaps being plugged thanks to a kind forum member - cheers Steve. Never even seen Pure Phase Tones for DJs before...

Some recent stuff:

Major Lazer - Free The Universe
Daniel Avery - Drone Logic
Mark Lanegan - Imitations
Dirtbombs - Ooey Gooey Chewy Ka-blooey!

Despite the bonkers title, the Dirtbombs album is a fucking masterpiece. It's also one of the best recorded albums I've heard in ages...

On order:

Motörhead - Aftershock

Man, I just bought it off someone selling it themselves. Was Amassed even released on vinyl? I think most of the Thirsty Ear stuff is only on CD...

Thanks to beaker for pointing me in the direction of this record, which I bought earlier this week. With every listen I hear something new. "Dear Friend" has a gorgeous guitar solo in it that sounds like Wilson resurrected the ghost of Jerry Garcia and channeled him through his guitar. I also hear influences such as David Crosby, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Bob Seger, Wilco, Iron & Wine, Bonny Prince Billy, Elliot Smith and early 70's wah-infused rock. Not all of it works completely but the record is so varied and interesting that as a whole it is incredibly engaging.

Very sweet discovery.

Black Heart
Torment*

*Uncredited on the release but note in Marc's autobiography 'Tainted Life' (p. 205) proves that Robert Smith with Steven Severin wrote the music for the track "Torment".

Good to know you like mr Wilson. Be shure to also check out his album before this one, Gentle Spritit. It's a little more consistent than Fanfare and has beautiful music on it. My fav being Ballad of the pines: https://soundcloud.com/jonathanwilson/0 ... -the-pines

haha, i thought it was worth a chance, slim to fucking none i expected! hmmm? i could have sworn i saw the live album with J on it for sale on vinyl. gonna have to confirm with a buddy back home...

it would be great if somehow the entire back catalog could be re-issued on vinyl. i remember blethering away at John Coxon about Spring Heel Jack and fully geeking out about Disappeared and Amassed. he was eating it up, and went into great detail about the recording process and everyone who was involved.

Shonn, according to Discogs, all the SHJ albums up to, and including, Disappeared were released on vinyl:-

http://www.discogs.com/artist/Spring+Heel+Jack

Had a quick scan and all of the vinyl albums go for next to nothing for some reason even if they're all double and triple LPs. They're mainly sold in the UK though so you're probably incur quite a bit of shipping costs. Worth a gander though.

Just this:

Beautifully epic. Love the fact he's gone for a deliberately limited palette of instruments here - no guitars, keys or horns.

Plenty of that astonishing bass though, girl singers, and strings. And that amazing voice. Incredible.

It reminds me of Trouble Man. That good... and only a 5 track EP. Eagerly await the next stuff.

That Doomsday Rock album is incredibly good. A collision of brilliant psych and sci-fi... from bizarre yet excellent grindhouse-esque movie adverts (Stack-O-Buck) to tripped out jams (In Her Space). One of the first Brother JT albums i heard and always been my favourite. I took a punt on Vibrolux too after hearing this and, although not as great as this collaboration, their albums were not bad either.

Doomsday rock LPs typically sell for over $20; someone listed one at $15 on discogs and I snapped it up. I have been watching them on eBay.

The Vibrolux LP with Jesus on the front - not as good as this? I have not heard it. Still on my list, though.
Love hand-screened covers, and I've developed this obsession with JT's vinyl.

This was a few weeks ago now...Not so much bought, as delivered by Detroit's very own Santa:

Neil Young - Tonight's The Night (original US pressing)

YEAH!

Amazing. The sleeve itself - wow. Heavy blotter paper, dense with black ink. Black Reprise logo on the record itself - for Danny and Bruce. The actual sleevenotes are completely mental - lyrics from an unreleased NY track superimposed on the track listing and information for On The Beach.... eh? There is also this bizarre note addressed to - and from - "Waterface" that even makes Dylan's hipster poetry on his old records look tame. A photo of Roy Orbison, and a fold out sheet with a review of a live gig...only in Dutch. Madness!

And the music? Of course, that sounds fucking incredible...

Cheers!

A second hand cd shop recently opened up in my town and they do a deal of 4 for a tenner so I nabbed these:

The Heads - Everybody Knows We Got Nowhere  8) :D I have it already but couldn't pass it up at that price!

The Detroit Cobras - Life Love and Leaving / Seven Easy Pieces / Baby.

I know I already have one of the above but couldn't remember which one so I bought all three.

At last ... someone else who appreciates David Sedaris!

I've been listening to his essays/diaries on Radio 4 for a while now. Had never heard of him before and don't know much about him, outside his reading of his writings on the radio. No one else I know who hears his material seems to get it, but I really enjoy his witty observations on both the most mundane and sensational aspects of life that he's encountered, and recounts in a uniquely endearing and entertaining fashion.

I didn't know he'd released spoken word records himself, but it sounds like the sort of odd/unusual thing a character such as he would do.

Any interested parties can check out the current series on the Radio 4 website.
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

David Sedaris has quite a few audiobooks available, and he reads them all himself.

They are laugh-out-loud funny, at least to me. No others on vinyl that I'm aware of, but CDs are easily found.

I got another Brother JT / Vibrolux record I've been wanting, they are always $25+ online; local shop Double Decker got one in and my wife surprised me for Christmas; hand-screened covers, numbered edition of 500.

Back out in Phoenix and found parts 1& 2 of Exile on main St demos and outtakes. Incredibly there are versions of songs I have never heard. Looking forward to plopping these on the turntable when i get home.
Also New Order Factus 8 mini lp that compiles the early singles for $3. The guy at the counter was not happy when I brought that up to buy it.
The newest Follakzoid CD. Wow! Good driving music.
Spacemen 3 Sound Of Confusion CD yet again. This time in a card sleeve mini lp sleeve.
Also Rolling Stones Plundered My Soul 7" An old RSD release.

I saw these BJM 2x7"s out here and Tepid Peppermint Wonderland on vinyl. Nearly $40 for that 2x LP. That is one i would like to own. Anyone heard these new tracks on the double 7"?

That FACTUS 8 is a bit of a bargain. It has a phenomenally powerful pressing of Everything's Gone Green on it. It usually goes for decent money if it is in good nick. I bought the BJM 2x7 and know it arrived, but don't think I've played it yet. Maybe next year :D

They were selling a couple 7" on their recent Australian tour. I wonder if it is these? If one of them is "Days Weeks Moths" please could you get me one?! That is one of Anton's newest tunes and it is brilliant. In fact, it has made their recent live set down under.

Yeah, it's a wonderful concert - "The Room" is absolutely mindblowing. And James Graham is probably the only person in the world to have unleashed the C-bomb in Paisley Abbey - not just once, but twice! :D

Magnificent album. It had a huge impact on me when I first heard it in 1982 IIRC. Caucasian WaIk and Baby Turns Blue were a real shock to my little South Dublin world. I remember being shocked by the state of the Prunes the first time I saw them play around then. They were mad in general, but particularly so live. It still gets a regular play here.
