Given to me as a graduation gift by a certain somebody -
Carlton Melton - Live Europe '12
Bardo Pond/Carlton Melton - Split
Yoko Ono - Listen the Snow Is Falling 7"

Purchased with the last of last summer's stash (dont ask where it came from)
The Cult of Dom Keller - s/t
Hookworms 7"
Cheval Sombre - live tape
Cheval Sombre - Mad Love (at rough trade west)
Carter Tutti Void - Transverse (rtwest)
Terry Riley - A Rainbow in Curved Air (original copy - rough trade west downstairs)
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy (original, rtwest downstairs)
Brian Eno and Laraaji - Ambient 3 (original, Power Park Records in Berlin)
Neu - s/t (oye records in Berlin)
Deerhunter - Microcastle/Weird Era (from the band)
Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest

And the mother of them all...
An original copy of playing with fire (with the embossed cover) from reckless... i almost didnt go in because I had to force myself from not buying Carlton meltons country ways or the bardo pond rsd thing at sister ray and countless other things at the rtwest downstairs, but im so happy I entered that shop... £35, mint condition it seems... No idea if that was a fair price and I've just blown a huge amount of money that has sort of been my special fund, but whatever, better spent on records than something else. except Maybe a modular synthesizer which I am going to begin building this summer with new work money/kind graduation gifts from family and friends.

Overlook the silly in between song banter because when the songs kick in they are first rate! Brilliant rock and roll band from Cleveland and a record that demands to be played loud.

A young Joe Walsh also proves that he has some seriously tasty licks up his sleeve. He was with them through their first three records ('71) and then Tommy Bolin eventually replaced him.

is 'blue june' on Finbegin? i absolutely love that piece of music for William Reid. that Freeheat cd is a turd, it just goes nowhere for me. do you like Tramp? i've been raving about her for ages. honestly i really only connected with the first album she put out. 'consolation prize' is my favorite piece by her so far. she works better as a folk artist rather than the rockish/popish/polished sound she now has. amazing voice. i would also recommed Tara Jane Oneil's album 'a ways away'.

Finally found the Spacemen 3 tribute album. Haven't listened to it yet, but that glittery vinyl looks amazing.

Also picked up an original copy of The Pop Group's Y. Fair price (I think). Vinyl in great condition; sleeve is meh.

YES!

This version of Them was long after Van had left the group and they relocated to Chicago, picked up a couple of Americans and renamed themselves "Truth". They wrote, played and rehearsed for a couple years only to eventually record a few albums as "Them" (minus Van). Because of their new members and moving to America their sound really changed into a crisp, fluid, west coast acid rock band with a tinge of jazz. "Square Room" is absolutely superb! Their three or four albums recorded during this time are quite difficult to find but reissues are around and about.

I have a beautiful double LP set of tunes recorded before these later Them records entitled "Truth - of Them and Other Tales" and consists of some very rare nuggets including a nearly 12 minute version of "Square Room" entitled "Archimed's Pad - Square Room". The LP is fan-fucking-tastic! The great psych collector, John Berg up in Seattle along with his mate and legendary 60's collector - Neal Skok, are responsible for getting these ultra rare tunes released.

redcloud is right. The "THEM" tracks chosen for this sampler are GREAT! You can find the 2-LP set redcloud mentioned via Greece w/o TOO much problem, (except shipping!) and there is also a CD release of the same material. I rant on about the Tower Sampler a little more, below, and another great pair of songs by Jake Holmes et al.

Samples of "THEM" and Every track on the "Tower Underground Sampler" 1968 (USA) is GREAT!

[on a related note]: Quite some time ago I wrote briefly on the "The 4 Seasons Acid LP that you probably never heard"; Jake Holmes, "Genuine Imitation Life" is sort of "the Title track"; this 4 Seasons LP is called "American Resurrection/ Crucifixion" with a newspaper like booklet in the gatefold unipak called "Genuine Imitation Life Gazette". The song also appears on Jake Holmes S/T LP.

It isn't T-Rex or the MC-5, but it CERTAINLY is not "Big Girls Don't Cry" either! The 1968 LP was rereleased on Ryko, but as a single jacketed, (non gatefold); and without the booklet and the cover is "defaced" w/ a photo of The 4 Seasons performing in a way very different than their fans probably wanted. The original LP is sort of "camouflaged", and the first time I heard it I was pleasantly surprised with the music, and then a little bit shocked to see I had just listened to The 4 Seasons!

"Waltz of Two Flies" (THEM) is very trippy and happy and unusual; I see this Tower Sampler from time to time, and the next time I happen to see it, I will make mention of that so others on the forum can obtain a copy and enjoy some great music, MEANWHILE, to make searching a little easier, here is (sorry) not so great, cropped "stock photo" (I am not quite yet set up to take LP photos as I would like].

I saw this 2LP re-issued set on Ebay, [shown below], so if you do not have it, here it is. :D A CD version with a "blue" cover inlay was also available for a bit le$$. The original copies are pricey, and a mint example is difficult to find. These are "180 - 200g" vinyl pressings. This release may or not be the same as redcloud is referring to, but the Title and tracks would make it at least seem so. I believe he will share more info, like the label and so on if it is not. These copies, 2-LP and CD, are available from Greece. A LOT of Psychedelia is available from Greece!
This is on the "Missing Vinyl Records" (001) label

Yes, this is the one. My LP is an original issue 2 LP on Missing Vinyl Records MV001, but I also have a CD-R ripped from the original CD reissue, which John Berg put out on Neal Skok's label, Epilogue Records in 1995. Berg worked with Missing Vinyl to assemble the LP version in 2008 so it is a legit copy taken direct from Berg's tapes rather than a bootleg mastered from the Epilogue CD.

This album comes with my highest recommendations. I really love it.
semisynthetic wrote: A LOT of Psychedlia is available from Greece![/b]
It does (as does Italy). I will give one word of advice though...while this Truth LP is legit and Italy's Akarma Records are also a decent label you do need to be careful as there are a lot of bootlegs taken from "needle drop sources" (using an original LP or even CD reissue as your source). With today's computer programs one can clean them up much better than they used to be able to (remember those old EVA and Psycho boots where you could hear the needle?) but a boot is a boot. Radioactive/Fallout/Phoenix Records are good examples of this (mastering from vinyl source but cleaning it up with computer program). Ultimately, a bootleg reissue should not demand high money and often they are not legitimately working with the artists! So, word to the wise...be wary before you fork out on eBay.

Saying that...Psycho & Eva were great in the 80's as it was much harder to find these things and some of those Psycho releases are now almost as rare as the original records they may have booted!

I was, (for some reason), surprised that SO MANY bootlegged recordings were sold on Ebay; I picked a few sellers and it was essentially NOTHING BUT ROIO (bootlegs) one after the other! The Italians have always done exceptional ROIO releases; from "A" to Zappa! Nice pressings on quality vinyl (even waxes!) from exceptional sound sources.

I was amused to see a ROIO of Pink Floyd's "The Wall Live" on a TWO LP set; I remember when the record stores would not buy or sell these, (That release is THAT BAD!) and I had to buy an example of VERY POOR QUALITY for my collection out of a wooden box in a guys car trunk! NOW that little (pathetically done) piece of "Musical History" sells for $50.00+!

So caviat emptor is indeed the warning with these bootlegs and bootlegs of bootlegs!

Wow. I used to listen to that album a while back. I really love Aaron North’s guitar, the vocalist sounds a bit irritating, though.

ah so it looks like you have been buying from Ethan's Silver Current site, Robotoilet? :)
I think I might get that Comets show too. and I also love how Tonal Shrine sounds (Ben's pre-6Organs band)- proper freeform noise, very intense!

not listened to the Icarus Line or Barn Owl yet, will report back with what I think!

Yes, I have.
But i hadn't noticed Tonal Shrine.
Be prepared for a lot of screaming fuzz wah.
That sounds amazing. I will definitely try that one, too. Thanks for the heads-up! :D

Arctic Monkeys - AM (ltd edition w/ bonus 7")
Beta Band - EP's 2 and 3 (rsd 2013 editons)
and some second hand finds:
Rolling Stones - It's only rock and roll ( good copy for 5 euros)
The Charlatans - Between 10th and 11th and Up to our hips
I'm especially stuffed with now owning the latter on vinyl, it's my favourite album of theirs and it sounds well good on vinyl! Now only 'Us and us only' left to complete the collection
and still waiting for the new Dodos album on blue vinyl to arrive, and the sundazed 7" from The See See.

Can't believe it's been only 3 weeks since I last posted in this thread but have still managed to amass the following, all on vinyl:-

Hills - Master Sleeps (yellow vinyl reissue on Rocket Recordings)
Mmoss - Only Children
Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport (double LP)

Bought all of the following off of one eBayer (reckon you'd be pleased with this little haul, Warmth  ):-

Super Furry Animals - Mwng (White vinyl)
Gruff Rhys - Yr Atal Genhedlaeth
Gruff Rhys - Candylion (double LP)
Neon Neon - Stainless Style

Did some building work in a record distributors in Brighton recently and the manager let me help myself to the following:-

Midlake - The Courage of Others
Flaming Lips - The Terror
Pond - Hobo Rocket
Calexico - Spiritoso (RSD white vinyl)

Good SFA-related haul, Shines! Very cool. I actually don't have Gruff's first album on vinyl. That one is always too expensive when I see it on eBay. You should grab the latest Neon Neon, too. Wonderful record.

New Carlton Melton album: it is ace.

I am not buying any more vinyl for the next year (honest M'Lud), as I am saving up for the forthcoming Can Box Set on Mute (there are something like 17 180g LPs in the box, so will need wages for a team of Sherpas to help getting it home). No prices available as yet, but I'm prepping a kidney for eBay just in case.....

I have been very fortunate lately; and VERY behind on sharing the recordings that made their way here.

Well, I would like to share this photo of my new tiny puppy; an English Mastiff, who at 8 weeks + 1 day, weighed in at 23 pounds at the Veterinarian's office.
He is very outgoing and intelligent; his Breed is the most massive for their volume, ergo, I have named him Archimedes.
A name he shall surely grow into; very large he should become; but so gentle, yet protective and considerate.

This photograph was taken when he was well fed and sleepy; in fact, at this moment, he is asleep at my feet. He has been quite good for a puppy his age, and I can SEE him grow! His vocabulary of understanding grows almost as fast as he does.

I am really into the 'Damnation of Adam Blessing' right now. A brilliant Cleveland based heavy rock band from late 60's/early 70's. I absolutely love their 1st and 2nd album and can't recommend them highly enough. The second, in particular, is amazing - especially Side A. It is fucking bad ass from start to finish! The first LP too, has some great tunes. A couple unique cover versions and a few stunning originals. GREAT, GREAT, GREAT records!

Anyway, last night, on my way home from work I decided to pop into my favorite used record store and I found a super clean promotional copy of their 3rd LP ("Which is the Justice, Which is the Thief"). :D

They eventually changed their name to 'Glory' so I now need to track down that LP.

I have since learned that Archimedes "sings" in his sleep; not a howl but something more melodic than I expected even from a (still rather small) large Hound.

Be Certain to visit lilmoxie.com!

These last weeks have been very Wonderful for me! I have been finding wonderful pressings of old favorites and LPs that I just never "got around" to buying; several dozen Japanese pressings. Like:

The Grateful Dead "Live in Europe '72" 3-LP set; Japanese Promo White labels (really nice!) w/ booklet and assorted inserts; a 1972 PROMO Only Japanese Pressing w/ familiar artwork (and Obi). [new, "Old Stock"]
The Byrds "Candy"/"Child of the Universe" 7" Japanese pressing; PS 1968 OST (I posted the cover on the "psychedelia and music" thread); VERY NICE! A GREAT Soundtrack. [new, "Old Stock"]
The Nice "Thoughts of Emerlistdavjack" 1967 Japanese PROMO LP on "Intermediate". Inserts and Obi [sealed]
and
The Who "My Generation" 1st UK PROMO LP on Brunswick; a spare, and something I did not expect. 1965 [NOS]
The Who "Volumes 1-5" (Boxed Compilation Set from Italy) 1979 [sealed]
Black Mass by Lucifer S/T Promo Wonderful electronic music; another great spare copy on Uni label. [sealed]
Sid Vicious "My Way" acetate
Der Blutharsch 1/444 Live Austrian Release 2011 [sealed]
Fred Astaire (autographed LP from his Dance Studios (Promo) 1960 Let's Dance!

And Several more I have not had a chance to yet view properly.
Black Dub LP
Expo 70
The SEE SEE latest GPS release

I am so far behind it is embarrassing. I am taking a vacation; my first in years, and listen for days and days and days.

The new Jonathan Wilson album was delivered yesterday and it's lovely (baby blue vinyl!). Don't know if anyone here knows who he is, but I know there's some love for Kenny Tudrick round these parts and Jonathan does the same thing: well produced and recorded westcoast folkrock, with a psychedelic twist.
Check it out here: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/albu ... ilson.html

Playing this stream right now while I do some work and it sounds great. I'll look for it next time I am at the record store. Cheers also for pointing this album out. I probably never would have heard it otherwise.

Btw, 'Fazon' is a pretty faithful cover of Sopwith Camel's tune from their second LP, "The Miraculous Hump Returns From The Moon" (1971). Cool choice of song to cover!

Sopwith Camel were an early SF/Haight-Ashbury band. Their first album is quite jug band'ish and somewhat similar to early CJ & The Fish (pre-1st album). They disappeared for a while and then returned with their second album, which has a smooth jazz element to it as well as wah, delay and reverb on the guitars. I dig both albums. Original LP's are harder to find but I am pretty sure they have been re-issued on both vinyl and CD. Great name for a band too!
