Primal Scream ~ 17/11/06

Post by BzaInSpace »

Superb gig last night - even in the massive air-craft hanger like structure of the SECC.

I've been waiting a long time to see them live and i'm glad they didn't disappoint! The sound was as good as it probably could be in such a venue - the bass was nice and loud at least. Vocally was a bit muddy.

Good Rock n' roll show though! Innes machine gunned the audience with his g u i t a r, Bobby did that fantastic dance - and they really seemed to enjoy it too.

Some magical takes on 'Accelerator', 'Kill All Hippies', 'Medication'...they played 'Damaged' later on also! Fuck it, there were no bad tunes at all.
'Shoot speed, Kill light' - never one of my favourites - was turned into a trance-adelic monster.

Two encores - and they also played the VU's 'What Goes On' in Primals style!

"Mani is so crazy he's always got a line for the ladies..."

Did the stuff from Riot City Blues sound any better, as I thought the guitars on that were pretty weak, with a few exceptions.

Yeah it was great! I would say so - although I hear if they are not up for it, they won't put on such a good show. But both Bobby and Mani kept saying they were having a "good fucking time..."

But definetely worth seeing - perhaps they have not always been so good live - ask Runcible.
But the band was on fire...

'When the bomb drops', 'Suicide Sally', 'Sweet Rock n' roll' were all played and sounded brilliant. But it was probably '99th Floor' and the immortal 'Counry Girl' that sounded best of all!

And Veiko - somebody must have taped it. I didn't spot anybody but they must have been, I'll certainly let you know if anything turns up - and please, if anybody out there has a copy get in touch!

Sounds like the new stuff is gonna sound better live then. I think When the Bomb Drops is a really good tune, but as well as being derivative others on the album had weak guitar parts, including Country Girl which to me sounds like something left on the cutting room floor when the Stones made Beggars Banquet or Let it Bleed :(

Also I've seen them live on TV a few times since the new album came out - who's that girl who looks like a dark-haired Marianne Faithful that always seems to be singing right next to Bobby G?

I think thats Alison from The Kills. Shame she wasn't singing at the gig, but they had some good backing singers though.

As i've mentioned/raved before, personally 'Country Girl' was the song of last year! And it beats most tunes on those albums you mention...

IMO. :D

This can be a hot topic of discussion in Edinburgh then. I will make my best efforts to listen again thoroughly to all three albums, in order to make my case convincing!

Oh and thanks for the info - I thought maybe she was Bobby's fiance/wife until I saw pics after the wedding. She sings well from what I seen.

I was at both Manchester shows at the weekend.

They blew the roof off the place on Saturday night. Loved it. Crowd were great - and we got treated to Loaded for being so good. First play of that in a long time.

Sunday was always gonna be hard to live up to the previous night - but I enjoyed it in a laid back Sunday night kind of feeling. Less limbs being thrown around and dragged off the floor.

A radox bath and a few cold cans have never felt better tonight though.

Admit it!

I had a giggle when I heard the 3-0 scoreline - especially thinking about the Leeds fans that were on my flight to Liverpool on Saturday morning. They all looked so excited - with their scarves on.

I definitely wasn't envious!

I've just realised who you're playing tomorrow!

I take it your sitting very quietly among the Plymouth fans?

Just to be convincing you should call Leeds a shower of dirty bastards.
