AwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwrighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhT
Whats the fcukin' consensus on MON (Martin O'Neil)?
He was up here for a bit.
My fcukin thoughts are as follows;
He can play a system and find players that can play a system.
He's not interested in re-building a team...teams are cyclic, players come and go....he tends to leave without doing this.
He now seems to not like having the purse strings tightened...although he must've worked within his means at Leicester and Wycombe.
He was spoken about as being a replacement for Alex Ferguson or even as the next England manager at points in his career.
He can jump quite high
I think he's heard that Celtic have an inept manager and a ~10million quid transfer kitty and he's heading back up.
Still...Sven could be employed again at a top English club...............
Commmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmme Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

No chance - there's no way that Celtic appointed Lennon only to get rid of him before the season's even properly started. Fair enough, there was a bad result away to Braga, but Strachan's reign started with an abysmal European result and he went on to win the next 3 league titles.
I think O'Neill will wait on the right job coming up - had he left a bit earlier, I think he would currently be the Liverpool manager.
Re: The Fcukin Yes Thread!
how many villa players are left from when he took over? 1- gabby. he's built a team that can challenge for 4th but just lacks 4-5 players. with milly, young and freidel being sold all those years of building are coming to nothing. good riddence in that case. martin, we'll always love you. should have been england managerGuessed wrote:AwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwrighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhT

I said "re-build" a team.bunnyben wrote:how many villa players are left from when he took over? 1- gabby. he's built a team that can challenge for 4th but just lacks 4-5 players. with milly, young and freidel being sold all those years of building are coming to nothing. good riddence in that case. martin, we'll always love you. should have been england managerGuessed wrote:AwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwrighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhT

Challenge for 4th...have they not finished 6th in the last 3 seasons?
That's not challenging thats treading water.
4-5 players....thats £40mill this season.
FYI AV net spend since 07-08 has eclipsed Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd, Spurs, Everton, Liverpool etc...i think all with the exception of Man City, Sunderland perhaps....
O'Leary/Ellis left
Lerner arrived...O'Neil spent ~£20mill...finished 11th
Second season O'Neil spent ~£20mill...finished 6th
Third season O'Neil spent an ~£30mill...finished 6th
Fourth season O'neil spent another ~£30mill...finished 6th
First things first. I think most teams need to spend ~£15mill to stay in the EPL. Secondly he should've used at least half of 08-09 & 09-10 money to get a striker...he didn't. Thirdly; he could get Bellamy/SWP for a song in a deal for Milner. He could get Robbie Keane in a deal for Young. Sure maybe he aint allowed. However there is more than enough already there.
TBH, I think Villa could afford to lose both Milner (who O'Neil must surely have seen/heard about on his arrival at AV..JM was on loan there from Leeds 05/06) and Young and still finish 6th.
Lerner could recoup some of his outlay; let's say £40mill and perhaps Downing could reward the huge transfer fee.
Also, Gabby isn't the only youth to come through at AV, surely?
I know O'Neil doesn't look to youth often but do they not have right forward, young guy.
Petrov is still there...the defence is decent.
Sidwell and Reo-Coker!!! I'm sure they could do with a game.
You can't blame Lerner for his business acumen or the players in question (I expect Milner & Young have had there heads turned by the CL & England...entirely unconvincing tonight, again).
If O'Neil was worth his salt he would realise that Milner & Young transfer fees far outweigh there talents.
Look at Ancelotti; he has let Ballack, Deco, Cole & now Carvahllo leave this season.
Has he spat the dummy. No; he has a decent defence left, will eventually sign Ramires and has one of the most talented young players in the world...almost ready.
I wish Wenger would do it with Fabregas...another hugely over-rated player. Wilshire will be the one.
Ferguson has moved on more players in his time than anyone in the EPL...and his team keep on coming
I'm sorry ben, It annoys me when average managers/players are showered with accolades they clearly don't deserve.
IMO he's just shown exactly what sort of manager he is...and I doubt he'll ever find a team in a more attractive position than Aston Villa...again.
mkb; I was joking about Celtic. Celtic are my favourite joke.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
Re: The Fcukin Yes Thread!
Rangers can hardly put a squad together and providing they keep a 40yr old fit and Kenny "can't hit a barn door from 2 yards" Miller bangs some goals in I can see the SPL title staying where it is.mkb wrote:Guessed wrote:I think he's heard that Celtic have an inept manager and a ~10million quid transfer kitty and he's heading back up.

Lennon has bought just as much shite as Mowbray and now he has another ~9.5mill. Oh Lordy.
Does Matt Elliot still play...he could shore up the defence.
Another nonsense Celtic appointment.
Absolutely no direction.
As an aside great result tonight against Sweden. Can't wait for the campaign to start...good old SFA are selling the Spain tickets first...get the pennies in. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
