Unusual live stuff

It's fairly unlikely you'd have made it here without ever having heard of Jason's previous incarnation. So here you go, talk away...

Unusual live stuff

Post by natty »

I've got some cool live stuff from Northampton College in 1987 (Rollercoaster, Come Down Easy, WWJ) I've never seen available for download. Has anyone else got it (other than Ian, 'cos I gave him the original tapes)? I'm trying to work out who the vocalist on WWJ is. I suspect it's Pat Fish, but I want to know if anyone can confirm this or has any other ideas?

This gig took place on Tuesday 1 December 1987. There's a recording of this that runs:

Come Down Easy
Walkin' With Jesus
Things'll Never Be The Same
Come Together
Starship [Aborted after a minute or so and restarted]
Revolution
Suicide

If that's the full set, then the version of Rollercoaster on the tape that Natty lent me is from a different gig (and it may well be, the tracks don't run together). I would say it is defiantly Pat Fish on the WWJ vocals. The version of Come Down Easy is a thing of absolute wonder - over ten minutes long, with real horns! The full gig recording is quite muddy - Natty's tape may only have two tracks from this gig, but they're the choice ones and sound brilliant. Having said that, there are other tracks following these two on his tape which matches the setlist of the rest of the gig, so it may be a full recording (although it is not entirely "full" as someone has faded the tracks in and out). If I have the time - and can be bothered - I'll try to work out if it is the same gig.

Love,

Ian

Any chance someone posting a link - I'm not sure I've even got a live version of Come Down Easy anymore, plus Pat Fish on WWJ vox sounds intriguing and rather curious...can someone explain why he was singing?

Just the 1st 2 songs would be fine if it's a hassle, but will be much appreciated :D
I'm like Evel Knievel, I get paid for the attempt. I didn't promise this shit would be good!

I'll post .flac files of both tracks if nobody has any objections. The version of Come Down Easy is really something else.

Ooh, yes please! Especially kept in flac format...I didn't quite mean that to sound so Kenneth Williams (the former, not the latter - I doubt he was bothered about file formats that never existed in his lifetime) but if you could upload them via yousendit, private ftp etc, it would be very much appreciated...cheers!

Well I hope that's Come Down Easy. I'm a bit lean. Apologies if it's not.

And WWJ with the Pat Fish vocal:

Yep. That "Come Down Easy" is the best live Spacemen recording I've heard, of any stripe. Thanks, Natty.

I managed to get Come Down Easy, but not the fishy version of WWJ. Unfortunately I've downloaded it onto pc with no flac frontend app to decode (though it sounds ok on VLC player), I could try zipping it and emailing it to you if that would help?

Any chance we can get the butchered WWJ back up, as YSI rather bluntly accuses 'the person who sent me this file' of exceeding their download limit...not that its any of my business what other folks get up to in the privacy of their own home and all that...so anyways thanks to the kind person who uploaded these originally!

I've no idea why that would be. I've downloaded bugger all from yousendit in ages. In fact, the only things I've ever downloaded from it are links from this board.

maybe because the two tracks combined equal more than 100MB in one day?
Anyway,, thank you.
I managed to get the WWJesus and someday will learn how to un-flac it.

Natty - still getting unpleasant messages from YSI...apparently you've exceeded you regular allocation of dubious pornography, but the other FLAC link posted here seems to be working as I'm currently enjoying the fishy vox on WWJ via the highest fidelity provided by the crap laptop I'm currently forced to use...many thanks for these tunes, do you have further information re. why JP isn't singing (or playing guitar from what I can make out) on this track? I have to admit I rather like this version, I assume it's just PK on keys and some rather good drumming behind the butcher.

Thanks again for the tunes!

If anyone else is having problems d/l'ing these I can upload them as FLACs to YSI or MegaUpload if needs be.

Jack, thanks a lot for that. There's some lovely people on this forum!

Downloading it as I type.

Yeah, I've kept dry this week, unlike all those poor sods that got flooded. It's been a grim last few days.

yea it has.
i've been lucky too though: our garden has flooded but it hasn't made it too far yet and (touch wood) the worst seems to be over. i did get caught in the rain for abut two seconds (seriously, it was no more than running from the car to inside) and in that i was absolutly drenched.

anyway, here's:

Any dubious pornography has come from other sources! I'm at a loss as to why that message has appeared.

I might have slightly exaggerated/elaborated on the actual message...but probably best to keep the missus away from that site in case anything incriminating appears.

Once again thanks for those tunes, very much appreciated :!:
