Consideing the quality I'd not recommend taking the torrent and using apps like TPMCG etc to seperate the audio/video and author it that way. As long as you player handles (S)VCDs then I'd just use a simple app to put it on a CDr. Unless the video file is in DivX/Xvid fomat (ie mpeg4) and your player can handle that (usually has the official DivX logo on front) in which case just burn it as data - whether it takes a CDr or DVD-r will depend on the file size, but if it's bigger than 700mgb and needs DVD Shrink (or similar) I'd spend the extra pennies on a DVDr. If it's an avi file that needs converting it's easy to get a DivX or preferably XviD ('cause it's feeware and just as good) conveter if you can't put it on (S)VCD.

If you like Clone, use eMule/donkey to get a working serial or keygen to upgrade to the full version.

Hey, thanks for the reply. It's a full DVD file they are sending. The Virtual DVD Drive software is free and I own clone DVD mobile. I was thinking I could mount the Video_TS and Audio folder to a virtual drive, than use cloneDVD Mobile to make an MP4. Or just burn it to DVD and than make an mp4...Gotta run. Thanks

Yeah - as long as the files are what they say on the provebial tin, it's the easiest way of buning proper DVDs. My problem comes from using a decent laptop that has only 40gb HD and my iTunes takes aound 65% of that, plus all the other apps, hence it's had to find the 5gb vitual memory you need fo proper DVDs, whereas DivX etc and SVCD don't need that cache.

As long as you got good d/l's of both video and audio tracks should be easy, only problem I've had is syncing the audio right, but that's actually only a problem I've come accross with dodgy/snide DVDs. However to the best of my recollection Clone (like many others) has a easy to use fix on board, in case you have a sync issues, plus it's pretty easy to use in comparison with some other authoring software that is geared towards more techy folks.

Can anyone explain how these torrents work? I've never used them before. Set it to download the DVD overnight, woke up and it was 15% done in 7 hours. Wow, that's slow but sounds like a cool DVD. I could make someone a copy of the .mp4 file once I download it. I don't really use DVDs very much, maybe I'll make one but more likely I'll just make an .mp4 and delete the DVD file when it is done downloading. Than again, if it takes a month to download I might want a DVD copy. Can you restart your computer while you are downloading? Is there a way to make it go faster?

Going backwards, speed depends partly on what info you BT client uses to place you in the queue, but moreso it's dependant on the number of seeds and leechers that have the data fragments you still need, so basically all you can do to get the best speed is keep up a good share ratio - ie keep full d/'s seeding until you past 100% share ratio, though this is sometimes impossible for rare stuff - I was seeding a downloaded Belle & Sebastian TV rip from Benicassim (sp?) and no one joined the swarm over 3r-4 weeks so just stopped. As this happens sometimes I like to get my share ratio for popular d/l's higher than 1 - I don't often read the forums on PLG except the initial seed or a reseed request, where you get a much better rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrfuck, sorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry. serrrrrrrrrrrrrrious keyrrrrrrboard malfrurnctionrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So how do I seed a file, and how do I know what people want? Usually I just e-mail people things they want, but have tons of rarities. Does it need to be in a paticular format, or can I just share all my mp3s?

That would be awesome, thank you.
I can't wait to get it. I'll make it an mp4 file that can be shared more easily than this silly DVD file.

...but the good thing about the silly DVD file is just that: it can be burned as a proper DVD, with menus, layout, dvd quality, etc. Although given that it's a VHS transfer, DVD quality is a somewhat moot point.

Note that this is an NTSC DVD, not PAL, as mentioned at the start of the thread (something that I forgot when I tried to play it on my PAL playstation...)

Thanks. I see your point, but hardly ever would use the menus associated with the DVD format. I'm usually really happy with the mp4 files I get from CloneDVD mobile, and they are about 1.5 gigs per DVD, including special features. My AnyDVD software removes the region information, so I can convert a DVD from any region. Thanks a lot for all the help, and if anyone can help me speed this transfer up I would really appreciate it. I'm 2 days in, and it's only 20% done! Ah!
Thanks,
Dave

Considering it's not the best quality footage I think you'll get just the same result by burning as DivX (Mpeg4). It's also worth bearing in mind that changing the region is not the same as changing from NTSC to PAL, which is more difficult as NTSC refreshes at a faster rate but with fewer lines than PAL. However in my experience mostly all TVs and DVD players handle both, so better to have it in the native fomat.

Plus there are variations on the format concerning the different refesh rate as films transferred to NTSC for TV require 3:2 pull down, whereas the refresh rate used by PAL is near enough not to require that extra processing. This a moot point as it's clearly a VHS video, but for example had it been French not German it would be SECAM in native fomat, which is not so common.

r2 DVDs come in both PAL and NTSC format as the region covers Japan as well as Euope.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you need a chipped DVD player to play mpg4's from outside region 2, as they don't use region coding the way regular DVDs do. It's well worth downloading a tiny free app called Gspot, which tells you staight away all the details you need to know about a file you've downloaded.

For PC based stuff it's mostly by experimenting to see what my d/l's look like on my proper TV and finding out how to get them onto a a disc that will playback on my DVD player. I'm paticularly impressed with the output I've had from checking the contents of downloads and buning them as DivX/XviDs/Mpeg4 (all the same essentially, you just need to pay for a licence to put the DivX logo on a DVD player) for example I finally got round to watching requiem for a dream after downloading a file aleady encoded as XviD and with the full Dolby Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack. It was obviously a vey well authored file as the sound and picture quality were as good as some proper DVDs I have, yet the file size was about 700mgb...however it was the film which knocked me sideways as I can understand why people rave on about it - I reckon it's one of the most effectively edited and directed films I've ever scene!

Stuff about region coding was commonly talked about when I first got a home cinema set up, as I guess I was what is usually called an early adopter (though most such folks buy much pricier kit which sells in small nos, providing an income to help with r&d to make stuff more affordable).

When I got my 1st DVD player, any made by the big Japanese companies had to be chipped by a techy peson to allow you to watch other region's DVDs. The machines made outside of those manufacture's (I think their called the DVD Forum, and when you've got companies like Sony making both movies and DVD players there's ovbiously special interest in stopping folks importing DVDs from other regions because of cinema release dates) are companies like LG, Samsung, Havard Group (Bush, Alba, Goodmans, Grundig and many other brands) and the OEM manufactures in China who produce stuff like Pacific branded electicals for Asda, are not under such obligations and so although they were technically supposed to be sold as r2 only here, there was always hacks so no chips were needed and most that sell are hacked before they hit the shelves. This is still the case but you rarely see a player for sale now that isn't already region free.

This sort of thing is old news now - the big issue will be whether the Blu-ray technology that will be in the PS3 is going to win out over the other hi-def format as the big Japanese companies are split, a bit like the the VHS vs Betamax - Sony cocked that up by making Betamax technology poprietry whereas JVC shared VHS technology hence it won, despite Betamax being the superior fomat (it was used in a pro form as standerd TV tape until DV came along).

I only know this stuff as a long time fan of hi-fi, I guess I got into it as not only being a big music fan, but I've played various instruments since the age of 6 and have always been interested in recording technology from the start of the process, right though to accurate repoduction of sound whether it be live or recorded output.

In summary it's just a case of being interested in a subject so things stick in my mind I guess. As far as getting d/l's onto other media I most often use Google as there's a lot of good advice out there from folks posting on msg boards like this, only I picture most of them like Fat Sarcastic Star Trek Fan from the Simpsons!

So often you find out you need an extra application to d/l to fix your problem - it's a very complicated business I find, mostly because of the many weird and wondeful file types there are knocking about. I guess I just like fiddling and exploring what clever stuff you can do on just a laptop.

Hi Guys,
I used CloneDVD Mobile to covert the folder to mp4 files. Let me know if anyone needs any part of this, except maybe the big concert mp4.

Can anyone reccomend a free program that will make this into a DVD? I used to have one that came with my computer, but it doesn't seem to work anymore. I tried a program, but the DVD wouldn't play on my DVD player, and when I tried it on my computer there was no sound. The mp4 files have sound, so I've watched the whole thing and it is great. Thanks.

If you've made them mp4s, can you not burn them as data and play as DivX on you DVD player, or convert to SVCDs with a progam like this? Most DVD players do (S)VCD now.

If you wanted a proper DVD then there was no mpeg conversion necessary as that torrent has the exact files required (ie VOB, IFO BUP) to burn a DVD - hope you still have that full torrent file left! If so use the wizard in Nero (or try another app that gives you a trial period) and it should be easy. However if you don't have Nero (worth getting - plenty of V6 & 7s knocking about to download with cracks, working keys, or keygens) now you have the mpeg conversions you might as well try and make SVCDs if you can play them as it will be much quicker.

Hope this helps!

Do you think I should still get Nero? From where?

I agree the track chapter thing is better on DVDs, plus you can put you own compilations together much more attractively. I would get Nero as Sonic has limitations and is made for Sony - just search on a site like Isohunt for Nero and ty and get a download that's either cracked, or more commonly comes with a working key/serial. V6 is still knocking about but V7 is the latest, though I think there's not much difference.

Posted: Sat Dec 09, 2006 11:24 pm

you downloaded a folder so you have to upload a folder too...
just make sure the content is the same as when you got it.

which client are you using? some of the most popular clients (for example azureus) you only have to start the program.

I guess you just want to seed or reopen the torrent to upload a bit more?

reseed actually is when you make a new torrent of content that has been available before because it has disappeared from the tracker or because the original tracker is down - so then you do it as you would when upping a new torrent of your own.

some people that are fairly new to BT misunderstood it because they only download and dont make torrents themselves.

I just finished DL'ing this torrent and it is great. I can't seem to burn it right though. When I open the VIDEO_TS folder in a DVD app like Nero Showtime I can watch all the clips and use the menu fine. I tried burning it using Nero and with that disc the menu doesn't work. Choosing any clip other than starting from the beginning just stops the disc. I can watch the live show from the beginning and thats all.

Is there something special I need to do in Nero or maybe just that was a bad burn and I should try again? I've never burned a DVD because most of the time I DL something and watch it once. This I actually want to keep. Any help is appreciated.

btw I can keep seeding this for awhile.

I read something the other day about glitches/problems with nero 7 and showtime. I still use nero6 since I never convert stuff "on the fly".

but.. start nero in the "nero burning rom" mode and burn it as "dvd-video" put all the files in the video_ts folder except the txt. file of course..

Perhaps you burned it as a "dvd-rom" ?
I know it wont play properly on some machines if you do that.

and keep seeding all 8) I´m surprised at how long it´s been active.

Nero's your best chance of being walked through all the hoops of authoring DVDs.

Use StartSmart to make sure the burning engine knows what you want off the bounce...V6/7 not much difference but 7 has a few more bells and whistles...none I can think of in DVD authoring but that's probably for the best as making 'proper' DVDs can be a headfuck at the best of times...might be worth checking if you can play DivX/XviD on your machine as that makes life a whole lot easier!

Use Gspot to get all the info on any files you have...and good luck!

Turned out it was just a bad burn or a bad disc. I tried it again (set the burn speed lower too) and it worked just fine. Thanks to the OP and all who seeded.

I'm still available as a seed now but the 3 peers I see aren't able to connect to me for some reason. I'll keep it going for awhile tho. It's on my work computer so doesn't really affect me to keep it up.

you´re welcome (if you mean the one on PLG) :) this is by far the longest running torrent I´ve ever posted.

The fact that you are uploading it from work means the necessary ports probably are firewalled. That is why other peers who also have them closed can´t connect to you, but that´s their problem of course.
If they open a port they will be able to download from you.
