Christ, my typing is bad. The typo in the last posting is shocking.

We very nearly took a job in Christchurch six years ago and I am very fond of the area. I'm sure the win will be great for NZ. But, strictly in the context of the game, how could an Irish/Australian react otherwise?????? Conflicted whichever team wins.

Bloody good game though, helped on by a hot day and 3 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc (two from Marlborough). Great stuff.

Agree. Was wondering how the hell they'd cope with difficult third series and loss of a main character. Stunning episode though, and possibly filthier than ever.

Well worth trying to track down first two series and special.

The Walking Dead Season 2. So far so good. I very much enjoy this show. They seem to be moving away from the gore that dominated the first season, which is fine by me since I usually watch while I'm eating my dinner.

Agree that its been good so far... when the horde passed them on the highway, i was on the edge of my seat, almost holding my breath...

Just hope it keeps the momentum going and we don't end up meandering about the story and end up bored or LOST (sic) :D

Didn't know there was a Trollhunter 2. However, just to clarify, I enjoyed Trollhunter on a completely non-ironic level. It wasn't an it's-so-bad-it's-good kind of thing. I genuinely liked it.

"Grimm"

My wife and I are really liking this fresh take on the police drama. A very clever and imaginative series.

It is also nice that it's filmed in Portland and we can spot our fair city throughout the show. 'Leverage' too is filmed entirely in Portland yet its supposed to be set in Boston. At least in 'Grimm' there is no hiding that it's filmed here.

it's nice after the tragedies, & perhaps understandable given your personal attachment to the country. but still, can't believe you didn't support the europeans!
i loved the final too - but i was sad the french lost. i thought the all blacks got far too nervous & was genuinely surprised @ how poor their attacking game was in the final. for that & more i wanted the french to win.

I supported the All Blacks because it was my time in New Zealand in 1989 that got me into rugby. When their team plays the whole country stops. I have never known sports fever like it and I got caught up in it and have had a soft spot for them ever since. Plus I went to Eden Park and saw a New Zealand vs France test. That atmosphere outweighs most other sports events I've been to.

I agree that France played superbly and probably should have won but my fondness for the All Blacks plus what the whole country went through earlier in the year with the earthquake made me right behind them.

I've just finished a two day visit to Canberra (which is my least favourite place in Australia). To add insult to injusry it pissed it down both days. Anyway, due to the rain I went to see a film called Immortals (Ithink). It was really that bad that I can't be sure of the title....do yourselves a favour and give it a wide berth, it was pretty woeful. Its only saving grace was the regular delivery of decapitations and disembowelments in 3-D, and even that wore thin after the first 15 minutes.

^ it could be much better
i know it's an old complaint by now, but the change in format has had an negative impact on the show. takes away a lot of tension & leaves the show open to even more repetition..

agree 100% w ur post. michel roux jr is terrific. tho is he a little overexposed now...??? hmm...

have to say greg has prob been pulling more funny faces/reactions per episode this season than before. he continually cracks me up w his expressions.

Watched 28 Weeks Later last night with Mrs Laz... great to see it again, especially the chopper scene.. always loved that! Mrs Laz struggled to watch some of it as her nerves were shot to hell at almost every turn! When it ended, she was like "Is that it?" No one survived?!?!?" Cue zombie nightmares all night...

Her words today... "Makes The Walking Dead look like a teddy bear's picnic!"

John and Greg´s personalities seem extremely different from that of Gordons..
I haven´t had time to see the new masterchef usa, but I would be surprised if the similarities are much more than the basic concept.

(Cooking shows is one of few categories in which sewden is more anglicanised - anglicised.. briticised ? eh whatever that word is - than americanized. We get a dozen british shows but only a couple of american - it´s usually the other way around.)

Anyone see Black Mirror? I think Charlie Brooker is getting better and better as a writer. First TV I've seen for a while which made me think, made me uncomfortable and was actually really gripping. It was just close enough to reality for it to be a really nasty too.

Just the overdubs. What you hear on the audio is not what Danko is playing on stage. Some songs are more obvious than others.

Was bought a copy of the Game of Thrones Boxset as a surprise. It is a bit light watching a really nasty punch-up in a fight: You know it's wrong but you just can't look away. I knew there was a reason I never watch TV.....

Today i watched footage of the Stanford Prison Experiment from the 70s... fascinating, if not more than a rather disturbing take on how society works and the power that corrupts...

Was anyone watching Homeland? I thought it was excellent. Not sure how long they can string it out for though. Hoping series 2 will also be the last.

Game of Thrones is building up nicely too.

I am three episodes into the first series of Breaking Bad, so far not quite as good as i was expecting. Don't get me wrong, it's watchable and i'll stick with it but not quite hitting the mark for me yet. Should i be laughing quite so often in it? I'm finding that there's plenty of humour but not sure if i'm supposed to be!

Non-essential but entertaining viewing: Grimm, Alcatraz. Plus the perennials of Bones and Criminal Minds. I can dip in and out of any of those four but generally an alright way to pass an hour.

Yeah Homeland was excellent. The last scene of the season (no spoilers) was just so infuriating to me, exactly as it was supposed to be. I agree though, I hope they don't drag it on for multiple seasons, but seeing as the people who did 24 (which I actually have never seen, but still...) are the ones who do Homeland... and it was such a huge success... and Obama likes it... it'll be going on for a while I bet.

sunray wrote: Should i be laughing quite so often in it? I'm finding that there's plenty of humour but not sure if i'm supposed to be!

As for Breaking Bad: Yes, there's a huge element of black humor in it for me - for instance, the end of Episode 2, which you just saw... pure grotesque comedy. It will continue to get pretty intense, and at times perhaps a little bit unrealistic, but it is just so cinematic and beautifully shot, and has such great character moments that it makes up for anything it does wrong in my opinion.

On the other end of the spectrum of drug television series is The Wire: I just finished my 3rd runthrough of the entire series (once on my own a few years ago, once with my parents, just did it once with a friend of mine). I'm sure people have mentioned it in this thread before (EDIT: Just did 'search this topic' and nobody had!!!! crazy!!!!), and I'm sure you are annoyed by hearing so many people say this: but at least in my opinion, it is the greatest television series I have ever seen/greatest piece of story telling on american television ever. It also (clearly for me at least) has incredible 'rewatch' value.

All I will say about it: go watch it right now (in fact, if you don't feel like watching Breaking Bad, switch over to the Wire immediately) -- it may be a little difficult to follow at first/the first few episodes may feel a little slow (I don't think so after rewatching them so many times and knowing where they are going, but some people do feel that way), however the investment you put into it will reward you immensely. The closest thing the experience of watching it can be compared to is reading a novel like Moby-Dick.

Another decent weekend for music docs on BBC4 covering Krautrock, Thin Lizzy, The Story Of Anvil and Amy Winehouse.

Sad watching "When Amy Came To Dingle" about her visit there to play Other Voices in 2006. During the interview her enthusiasm for music was clear to see and then you think about the mess she became.

Then you look at Anvil, a metal band in their fifties who never quite made it yet still keep going and you think; dedicated or deluded? But you find yourself rooting for them all the same!

Thin Lizzy doc was pretty good too. I'm not a fan but it was interesting.

I'd seen the Krautrock one before but it was worth another viewing.

any of you watch Louie?

it's fast becoming my favourite american comedy since the larry sanders show.

i think it's a truly brilliant tv show. comparable in craft, quality & wit to any show from any genre. i think it's an incredible body of work. it's only half way thru it's 3rd season (10ep's per season) & it just gets better & better each year.

also been watching the new Breaking Bad. been a decent start to the new season.

looking forward, my hero Dexter returns in September. there's a 2min preview went up that reveals the immediate fall-out from last yr's finale..

This week saw Australian Masterchef back on our screens so myself and the good lady will be glued to that for the next few months. Haven't picked out my favourites yet but I certainly know who I don't like!

A Touch Of Cloth and Moone Boy. Anyone else catch these two comedies on Sky? Both are well worth a look, had me laughing out loud on a number of occasions.

Series 2 of Homeland kicked off on Irish telly last night, starting off well. I heard that Claire Danes has signed up for another seven series! I was hoping it would all be over by four, don't like to see these things dragged out.

Along with the above, series 3 of Boardwalk Empire started last week. New Grimm is on the way in a week or two also. Couple that with the various Masterchefs and i'm set for the winter!

Anyone watching The Great British Bake Off? Very entertaining :D

Just watched the finale of Season 1 of Homelands... fuckin hell that was tense!!! I was so tense i even thought about flicking the switch just to get past it!

Brody is a bastard though...  but he really is played well as a character by Damien Lewis. Superb piece of acting. Gutted for Carrie though... took me a while to get used to her manic behaviour but i'm feeling really sorry for her now.

Season 2 coming up!

Series1 was fantastic, real edge of the seat stuff. Series 2 started off the same but I kinda think it's getting a little ridiculous now. Still great telly but not so believable anymore. Maybe that's just been the past couple of episodes though.

Yeah, I know what you mean with some of the past episodes, not as realistic but not enough to warrant not watching anymore but a bit of a bummer for authenticity...but I felt this way with season 1 with some scenes. Anyway, the last episode was really good, I'm still invested...looking forward to the next one.

Series 2 of Homeland ended here in Ireland last night. Won't give anything away for those in the UK who won't see it until Sunday but series 3 looks like it will be heading in the direction I thought it would. That's incredibly vague i know!

Found it telling that the continuity announcer made a jokey reference to "Carrie's cry face" prior to the penultimate episode. I do find her and Brody quite irritating now. The next series should be the last imo.

I watched a comedy called "Beat the Devil" on Cine'moi; funny and filled with great character actors, and a bizarre plot.

The Restored Film of "LOST HORIZON" was on TCM; it is a great film with a wonderful message; Idealist beyond mankind's current ability to obtain, but perhaps that is the appeal of the Book and Film based upon it.
