Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session

It's fairly unlikely you'd have made it here without ever having heard of Jason's previous incarnation. So here you go, talk away...

I'm just ripping a crackly version off youtube. It is most excellent stuff. How many copies of the 7' were there - very few I believe?
Re vinyl conversion - I'm going to invest in a mp3 turntable. I've a stack of vinyl and I've not had a functioning turntable for at least a decade. Need to do some conversion.

I've split the tracks up into individual songs if anyone is interested.

Was that Stereolab 7" the one with "Monkey Brain" on the reverse?

Not sure but at the time it was very difficult to get hold of and people paid well over the odds for a copy. Now pretty easy to find. Have a look:
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Splitting+The+Atom
£6 for a mint copy. Odd that Pete K isn't even credited yet he was very much involved. The single was simply listed as 'Splitting The Atom parts 1 & 2', but 'Monkey Brain' was indeed on the b-side...

Man I want that 7" so badly.

I think the super rare one that people might be thinking of is the Spectrum/Stereolab split - here is an article on it.

Woo hoo! I love it when this split single gets into the conversation! Not heard of one being sold since someone I knew got £752 for his about 10 years ago.

That article was partly done because a member of this very forum gave Record Collector a nudge (not me by the way!).

Splitting the Atom is a great record. I'm sure PK is creditted on the back?!?

Since the Stereolab/Spectrum split has come up again and thanks for rubbing it in Runci. My annual plea....I've been looking for that 7" for 15 years or so. It's the only SP3 and related item I need. If anyone if interested in selling then I'm seriously interested in buying. I had sourced one a couple of years back but the person decided not to sell in the end so no price was set/discussed.

Anyone interested drop me an email ononist@onophonic.com and while I'm here how about a plug for my record label

But not on the Discogs listing - which is what I was on about!

That Spectrum/Stereolab 7" is a record I would never, ever part with.

Was going to upload it but when there are 14 available on discogs for £6< you might as well buy one if you really want to hear it. Not exactly rare or prohibitively expensive.

Yes agreed - no problem with that whatsoever, I had in my mind that there were v scarce quantities - was mixed up with the spectrum / stereolab 7'.

Just picked up a mint copy of Splitting the Atom from Sister Ray in Soho for £6. Very happy - great shop that.

Not many vinyl shops left on Berwick Street - sad.

The Spectrum / Stereolab split 7' - of which there were only 25 copies made it seems - what was actually on it, and are the track/s available via alternative format?

The Stereolab tune IIRC was "Tone Burst (country version)" which is on Switched on Vol. 2.

Not sure about the Spectrum track.

Nice one on the Stereolab track, just done a bit of trawling - track list =

A. Soul Kiss Glide Divine (Spectrum)
B1. Tone Burst (demo) (Stereolab)
B2. Tempter (demo) (Stereolab)

The A side - what is that?

Haha, close but no cigar for me then.

Never heard that Spectrum track or seen it anywhere. Guessing it might be a variation on "Quicksilver Glide Divine" but I have no idea really. Can anyone shed any light on this? Runcible?

It actually appeared on a promo CD for the Volume CD/mag. I was looking for it the other day but it wasn't where I thought it would be. As my CDs are all in order if one isn't there I'm stumped to know where it might be. I'm loathe to play the real thing for obvious reasons but maybe I'll have to. Unless I can find that damn Volume CD!

It's on Volume 4. It's a beautiful drone/tone poem track more like an EAR piece or a Forever Alien piece. The Live Chronicles 2 is the same track but another couple of minutes.

I will have to check that as I was pretty sure the full version only appeared on a Volume promo CD. But I can't find it. And I am not 100% sure either.

Are those effectively the same apart from the length?

An hour well spent Mr Runcible, an hour well spent. Many grateful punters here if you manage to uncover it

Kurious Oranj - many thanks for the upload from Live Chronicles Vol 2, unfortunately I can never get downloads from sendspace to work.
