Good work lads - many thanks.
Splitting the Atom - anyone have a copy of this?

On 7". No electronic copy unfortunately and I struggle enormously with converting vinyl!KingHarry wrote:Splitting the Atom - anyone have a copy of this?

I'm just ripping a crackly version off youtube. It is most excellent stuff. How many copies of the 7' were there - very few I believe?runcible wrote:On 7". Re vinyl conversion - I'm going to invest in a mp3 turntable. I've a stack of vinyl and I've not had a functioning turntable for at least a decade. Need to do some conversion.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
I've split the tracks up into individual songs if anyone is interested.
Was that Stereolab 7" the one with "Monkey Brain" on the reverse?

Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Not sure but at the time it was very difficult to get hold of and people paid well over the odds for a copy. Now pretty easy to find. Have a look:KingHarry wrote:How many copies of the 7' were there - very few I believe?

£6 for a mint copy. Odd that Pete K isn't even credited yet he was very much involved. The single was simply listed as 'Splitting The Atom parts 1 & 2', but 'Monkey Brain' was indeed on the b-side...

Man I want that 7" so badly.
I think the super rare one that people might be thinking of is the Spectrum/Stereolab split - here is an article on it.

Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Woo hoo! I love it when this split single gets into the conversation! Not heard of one being sold since someone I knew got £752 for his about 10 years ago.Hofstadter wrote:Man I want that 7" so badly.

That article was partly done because a member of this very forum gave Record Collector a nudge (not me by the way!).
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Splitting the Atom is a great record. I'm sure PK is creditted on the back?!?
Since the Stereolab/Spectrum split has come up again and thanks for rubbing it in Runci. My annual plea....I've been looking for that 7" for 15 years or so. It's the only SP3 and related item I need. If anyone if interested in selling then I'm seriously interested in buying. I had sourced one a couple of years back but the person decided not to sell in the end so no price was set/discussed.
Anyone interested drop me an email ononist@onophonic.com and while I'm here how about a plug for my record label

But not on the Discogs listing - which is what I was on about!ononist wrote:Splitting the Atom is a great record. I'm sure PK is creditted on the back?!?
That Spectrum/Stereolab 7" is a record I would never, ever part with.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
I share your pain I only require WWJ 12" mayking t/p to comlete my collection, it has eluded me for yearsononist wrote:Splitting the Atom is a great record. I'm sure PK is creditted on the back?!?

Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Was going to upload it but when there are 14 available on discogs for £6< you might as well buy one if you really want to hear it. Not exactly rare or prohibitively expensive.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Yes agreed - no problem with that whatsoever, I had in my mind that there were v scarce quantities - was mixed up with the spectrum / stereolab 7'.natty wrote:Was going to upload it but when there are 14 available on discogs for £6< you might as well buy one if you really want to hear it. Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Just picked up a mint copy of Splitting the Atom from Sister Ray in Soho for £6. Very happy - great shop that.
Not many vinyl shops left on Berwick Street - sad.

Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
The Spectrum / Stereolab split 7' - of which there were only 25 copies made it seems - what was actually on it, and are the track/s available via alternative format?
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
The Stereolab tune IIRC was "Tone Burst (country version)" which is on Switched on Vol. 2.KingHarry wrote:The Spectrum / Stereolab split 7' - of which there were only 25 copies made it seems - what was actually on it, and are the track/s available via alternative format?
Not sure about the Spectrum track.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Nice one on the Stereolab track, just done a bit of trawling - track list =
A. Soul Kiss Glide Divine (Spectrum)
B1. Tone Burst (demo) (Stereolab)
B2. Tempter (demo) (Stereolab)
The A side - what is that?

Never heard that Spectrum track or seen it anywhere. Guessing it might be a variation on "Quicksilver Glide Divine" but I have no idea really. Can anyone shed any light on this? Runcible?

Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
It actually appeared on a promo CD for the Volume CD/mag. I was looking for it the other day but it wasn't where I thought it would be. As my CDs are all in order if one isn't there I'm stumped to know where it might be. I'm loathe to play the real thing for obvious reasons but maybe I'll have to. Unless I can find that damn Volume CD!
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
It's on Volume 4. It's a beautiful drone/tone poem track more like an EAR piece or a Forever Alien piece. The Live Chronicles 2 is the same track but another couple of minutes.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
I will have to check that as I was pretty sure the full version only appeared on a Volume promo CD. But I can't find it. And I am not 100% sure either.ononist wrote:It's on Volume 4. Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Version on Volume is 4.41 long. Live Chronicles 6.39.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Are those effectively the same apart from the length?ononist wrote:Version on Volume is 4.41 long. Live Chronicles 6.39.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Yep. I think the Stereolab split will be different.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
That's going to be another hour in the room my CDs are in to try and find that bloody promo! If I can find it I will upload that track for everyone.ononist wrote:Yep. I think the Stereolab split will be different.

Kurious Oranj - many thanks for the upload from Live Chronicles Vol 2, unfortunately I can never get downloads from sendspace to work.
Re: Sonic Boom Breezeblock DJ Session
Cheers Kurious & runcible. Nice of you, like.

K Oranj - I've managed to download this - many thanks for posting the link, much appreciated
