record shipping from UK to USA, and Brother JT related stuff

Post by davedecay »

so i want this record, it's in Derbyshire and it's cheap, but i'm in the USA and shipping is $52 USD / 35 GBP!

i know we had an increase, but it is it REALLY that much to ship an album? what do you UK-ers pay?

here's the auction:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FUZZ-FACE-BAD-T ... 1071900279

so FUZZ FACE is a guy i know (local) called Brother JT, he sells me his music in person for low prices.

if anyone over in the UK wants some of his limited US stuff, i'd be happy to get some and send it over.

i LOVE Brother JT... some of the most bonkers but loveliest music. Good to hear he is still going...

If there is a copy of the Brother JT & Vibrolux CD floating about, i'd be interested... superb album!

I looked at the shipping on the forthcoming Black Crowes 4xLP set. It's over $50 from the US to here. But international shipping has become ridiculously pricey nowadays.

Love that Brother JT, saw him live quite a while back. I'm wavering on pre-ordering the Cosmic Dead vinyl due to shipping, it's almost as much as the album. But I'll pull the trigger due to the huge respect and deep appreciation I have for Cardinal Fuzz. Had the same mental barrier with Dead Skeletons Buddha Christ vinyl but snagged it anyhow. That's a lot of dough that really could and should be going to the artists and independent labels. Artificial global inflation starting with gasoline - -

Sorry, but 35 quid to ship one LP is a total rip off. It costs between 7 and 8 quid to ship. So 10 quid w/mailer/time etc would be fair. Not sure what the other 25 quid is for. Does he hate Americans?

Yes, Alan is right, 35 GBP is absolutely highway robbery unless that includes the cost of the album. It should be 8 GBP or so. You should call the seller out on that crap.

35 GBP is fine... if it's hand-delivered on a velvet pillow.

It was the "Doomsday Rock" one i was referring to (did they do more collaborations?). Its a superb sludgey mix of tripped out psych and barrett-esque madness saturated with LSD... just brilliant!

Dave, I have an old rip of that album, but thanks anyway. I'll get round to picking it up at some point. Its one of those albums that just falls off my radar sometimes until i stumble on its greatness all over again. Amazon wishlist is getting ridiculous now...

Thanks also for the new Trippin Balls video. Always loved these. Good to also see Brother JT is still plugging away with his music too. Keep us posted on any Brother JT news if you can.

I just went to buy the new Birds of Maya LP and discovered the piss takers are charging $21.50 (over £14) to get it to the UK from the US. That's the worst I have heard of. On the other hand I went to buy the new Mainliner LP and checked their rates - they are charging £7.50 ($11.50) to send it from the UK to the US. Which is about right.

It's not just the post office charging a lot for postage - the days of people making vast profits on P+P are back!

I need to research shipping updates, and I have to buy some mailers (they cost $1 each) - overseas shipping has gotten crazy.

Brother JT: Live on WFMU's Zzzzzzero Hour with Bill Mac - August 10, 2013

http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Broth ... t_10_2013/

John Terlesky (aka Brother JT) is an author, painter, talk show host, animator, and sometimes sports fan (depending on how his teams are doing), and has also been known to be a bit of a monster on guitar, releasing over 30 albums in as many years as a solo artist and also as part of the legendary Pennsylvania garage band The Original Sins. Groove-laden gospel psych with a touch of T Rex inspired pop for good measure, JT graces the WFMU stage with friends Jamie (drums), Ron (bass) and Mike (gtr) to play some of his classics and showcase his latest release, “The Svelteness of Boogietude”. Get ye healed as the JT4 rip through an hour of the hits, invoking the power of rawk with the sounds of the Sins to the present day. Take your trousers off and come to Church!

Shipping costs have hurt all the way 'round. I usually spend $8-$15 for The UK and most of Europe, depending on what I buy and how many and so on; oddly enough, I received the 2-LP Gatefold "Pink Floyd 67-68" from KAZAKHSTAN for $4.75! (and got several interesting stamps) in 9 days. Sometimes, if a package requires extra special care and so on, I don't mind paying extra to make certain the recordings arrive undamaged, but $52 / LP is simply too much unless it is a packed in a WOODEN CRATE.

True, I sold a record on Discogs.com to a guy in Mexico, the cheapest shipping for under 1 lb was $15. If we wanted insurance and tracking, it was $30!
