It is pretty darn good. Even though it the season didn't really start with a bang last night, I'm glad it went that away. I think it needed an episode to decompress and unwind things a little bit after how crazy the last few episodes of the fourth season were. It was also fun to have a nice sort of "challenge of the week," even if they solved it pretty easily - the plot really moved forward very little, but I was totally cool with that.

Looking forward to the rest of the season!!!

I have a few more episodes of season 4 to watch and then I'm on to the new season, so please no spoilers in this thread if that's cool! I'm absolutey enamoured with this show. One of my favorites of all time. The episode in season 4 that flashes back to Gus's original meeting with the Mexican drug cartel was so intense.

so... only 8 episodes left.

i thought this abbreviated season was one of the best the show has had. the train episode a particular & obvious highlight.

walter.. what can you say about him? imo one of the great american tv characters. up there w/tony soprano & stringer bell. one minute i love him & would love to be him. the next he's so despicable even i can't find what he's doing cool! & it's been that sorta rollercoaster from the get-go, & he/it hasn't let up. just got wilder & faster.

& the show itself has been something of a quiet revolution i think. in its direction & camera-work it has been monumental & superior to nigh on everything else around - esp compared to the stuffy, staid, archaic style of the likes of Boardwalk Empire for example. i mean, shovel-cam anyone?! there is a plethora of ultra-cool shots & work across the entire series. it's been a exhilarating & thoroughly modern show.
content-wise maybe not so much. but it is a great genre-mashup all the same. one scene they're the a-team, concocting some crazyass scheme or explosion to get out of a dire situation. the next it's a soap-opera then the next it's a police show. but the subterfuge & drama has barely been anything other than incredibly taut & exciting. & the cast... well, bar the brilliant bob odenkirk (saul, the lawyer), i don't expect they'll have more fun on anything else - tho i do still think cranstons' dr whately from seinfeld is worth a note. (odenkirks finest hour of course is as larry sanders' agent - tho he's great as porno gil in curb also!).

it's been brilliant.
but it's end-game now.
what's gonna happen?
this site doesn't have spoiler tags so dunno whether it's fair to speculate...

It's definitely been a good season so far. The train episode was by far the highlight. So, when do we get the final 8 episodes? Do we have to wait until 2013?

Gotta say, I didn't think this season was incredible. Still thoroughly enjoyed it. While still cool every time, all the GoPro type shots don't feel quite as unique as they once did, and all the cooking-montages, again, while still slick and beautiful, don't have that same fresh quality. Having said that, they aren't really where my quip lies with this season - it's just that people don't seem to be acting rationally, acting just a little dumber than you know they are. Oh well, it's minor, and I still really enjoyed this season, even if it all felt a little like filler in preparation for next year. They're really milking it for all they can!

i fucking hate the montages!
there was one in the second or third ep where they're searching jesse's apartment for the cigarette & it's only purpose is to waste time. & it lasts for like 2mins!

i actually thought it had gotten silly crazy a few seasons back. & i'd gone off it then. but these days i'm more forgiving & just go w/it.
& in comparison to other shows who split their final season, i didn't get that sense of filler. last season i defo got the impression they were dragging things out, that they coulda actually wrapped it all up last season. but w/just the 8 episodes i thought they got the pacing p much otm.

they are milking it. i do agree. but then i think every tv show does that. e.g. i just started watching that hell on wheels & after the 2 opening episodes they immediately slowed it down to a snails pace. tv just cheats like that. but like i say i'm more willing to forgive BB cause of all the fun it brings.

I've only just discovered this gem of a series. I'm behind so I've been avoiding the spoilers - we're halfway through season 3 here. It's one of the most deranged concepts I've ever known but somehow it works. How it can keep going is beyond me, but I thought that about a dozen episodes ago. Some terrific performances and some amazing characters too.

Right - I'd better not read any of the other posts as I'm somewhat behind! So I'll ask simply - how many series of this are there? I have 4 in a box but I am guessing season 5 exists too.

Yea 5 is the final season.
It has been split over 2 years tho - 8 episodes aired last yr (& are on Netflix etc) & now the final 8 ep's of season 5 & the entire series are to show over August & September I guess.
They're bound to go out w/a bang. This show doesn't really do small as its selling point y'know? Looking forward to it.

Thank you. I will now avoid this thread to make sure I don't see any spoilers!

Love the series though. The combination of twisted scenes with the blackest humour is fantastic.

Avoided this thread in case of spoilers, but when the final season ended halfway through on Irish tv about 6 weeks ago after starting from episode one last year I had to have a peak to see what was happening. Now I know that the last episodes haven't aired anywhere yet, phew! They've actually started to show the whole thing again, two shows a week, so i'm assuming the final episodes will be ready just as TG4 catches up for the second time!

Got to say it's even better watching it the second time around :D Although I do think season 4 would have been the perfect ending, didn't really see the need for another season even though it is great.

It amazes me that no English channel has picked this up, anyone know why?

It used to be shown on 5 USA or whatever the channel was called. they only showed 2 seasons and dropped the show after that. Some suggested no channel picked it up following that perhaps because of the meth subject matter? Likely it had poor ratings.

TV here in the UK is largely awful. Most of the American shows broadcast on terrestrial tv are of the lower end of the quality spectrum, whilst good shows like Sopranos are disrespected by being constantly rescheduled or shown at ridiculously late times. Sky own rights to all the best stuff. Our country thrives on awful, advertiser-smothered, product placement whore soap operas and crap game shows.

A gold mine was thrown away when no one supported this show in the UK. Had it got the push it deserved it would have been massive. TV execs here are idiots. It's a word of mouth show here, but it just lends to the power of it. To meet someone who's seen it always brings a smile and a discussion of how great it is.

If you haven't seen it, start watching it.

I'm on Season 5 now and have just discovered that the box set doesn't conclude and leaves you mid-season. That is pretty weird as I haven't found a lot of warning that you are purchasing an incomplete series. Very annoying.

I see the 2nd half of this season is airing in the US from August 11th. As I managed to miss Breaking Bad when it aired over here please can someone raise an alert as and when the UK gets its share of the final episodes?! I'm bound to miss it otherwise!

to see the final episodes in the UK i think you'll have to subscribe to Netflix, which will air the episodes the day after they're shown in the US. either that or d/l them.
i honestly don't know which if any UK channel shows this, maybe something like 5USA?? one of those channels buried deep in the freeview.

but yea i'd recommend you do it via Netflix. first month is free then £6 after that, but you can cancel the contract anytime. you'll get the show in full HD & there's a load of other crap on there you so you could definitely get your 6 quids worth then just cancel after BB finishes.

new trailer w/walter doing ozymandias is just such a perfect teaser. it's going off, as they used to say. hypebeast. but yea am really looking forward to the conclusion.

The humour is so perfectly placed into the mix. I laughed at that too, as well as Walt being so caring towards hank when he's in the driver seat of the car just wanting to get out of there.

Everyone on this board who has yet to see this show- start today. It's a modern masterpiece.

can't please everyone - i thought last weeks was kinda slow, filler ep. evidence they were "dragging it out". the one highlight was "i'll send you to belize".

this week, he should defo send jesse to belize. he shoulda sent him there in s01. i've never liked jesse. always been a walt man. i think that makes me an asshole but i'm ok w/that. but i thought this weeks was p good. good tension & a good few things played out.

edit - oh the bitchslap, marie/skylar from last week was excellent too.

I'm almost up to date now. I think some of this new season is amazing - how they keep tightening everything even more is remarkable. Hank is just brilliant although I do miss Mike quite a bit. But Hank's insanely intense facial expressions in these episodes are something else. The scene where he and Marie watch Walt's DVD confession was nerve-shredding.

Sorry Jack - I love Jesse. Wish he was in it more!

again i didn't think this one or the prev one were as good as ep11, Confessions.

this week it was like i wasn't really buying walt falling for jesse's txt & phone chit-chat for so easily & so long and then like, how quickly did todd's uncles crew get there? like they musta choppered in or walt had been hiding behind that rock a long fucking time, w/hank slow creeping the opposite direction.

& i don't know about jesse. tho.. i was thinking maybe he took pity on walt & gave him something to help him when they tussled after jesse spat on walt. but i doubt it.
after all walt's done for him.. he's so ungrateful..

thought this one was well done.
hank was crying a lot in this one. him crying as heisenberg when on the phone to skylar was a highlight. as was hank obv..
there were loads of great moments, mainly in the first half - walt turning jesse over, his revelation about being there when the girl died like the one last asshole thing jesse didn't know, he was so brilliantly bitter & walt buying the old truck. the scene in the house was good too. it was all p good. like i said i thought it was well done. a wee bit predictable i guess, hopefully there's a few more twists & turns left yet but it was still a satisfying & exciting payoff.

poor jesse. i am starting to feel for him. he has a p miserable existence alright.
altho conniving as he was, walt prob doesn't seem like such a bad business partner now, huh? todd's a great character. even in a show full of psychopaths todd manages to be funnier & creepier than most of them.

Absolutely scintillating TV I thought. Possibly the best episode yet. I don't think I've ever seen a better programme than this, but I may have said that before.

How much worse can this get? Every time you think they've reached the depths they find more horror.

It was brutal this week. I actually couldn't sleep for thinking about it after turning it off and going to bed. I don't think I've ever cared about characters in a TV show as much as this one. Every actor in this show deserves an award for their performance in that episode.

Couldn't agree more. I loved the flashback to the first cooking scene in this episode - it made you yearn for success for Walt rather than this hellish situation he has created.

The actors are indeed truly outstanding, but the way the whole thing is put together is absolutely fantastic. The camera play is terrific - endless fantastic shots of landscapes and the like. The cinematography of this programme is as good as the acting. I can't praise it enough!

Just bought my other half a really cool Los Pollos Hermanos shirt. There's lots of great merchandise from Breaking Bad...

This last episode blew my mind. I knew Hank and Gomez were dead. There was no way they'd make it out of that situation alive. The way the rest of the episode played out was incredible and the acting was all exceptional. It was the first time that Flynn really had an opportunity to shine and he nailed it. Walt taking the baby ... the phone call between Walt and Skylar. Fuck. I think this could potentially be the most riveting hour of tv I have ever seen. Loved it.

los pollos hermanos is my go-to suggestion whenever someone's looking for something to eat. it's gotten to the stage now where it's beyond a joke & just elicits groans for a bad, old joke. it doesn't stop me tho.
we don't really get chicken joints like that over here.
i defo got to get one of those shirts.

& yea the merch is great for BB. it's another thing which shows they care & fully get the show, which doesn't really happen ever in tv.

& i agree, the entire universal production is just above & beyond comparison w/anything else on the box right now. it's just so sharpe & on-point in every aspect. it truly is a great work.

in terms of caring about the characters well it's not really my thing. i am on team walt, just about hanging on there, but as far as the rest of them go it's not like when i watched the soprano's & i loved them all. i never really cared for hank/walt jr & found jesse infuriating & i know on the first run-thru i'd prob fastfoward thru a few of either skyler/marie scenes. but i did get the feeling after Ozymandias that i would actually really miss this show when it's done.
& i don't want to appear curmudgeonly but i didn't really feel for the skylar/marie/walt jr scene & the holly saying mama was a trifle cheesy.
i did think anna gunn & cranston were epic as hell in this one tho, amazing performances in the house & w/the phonecall.

it was a terrific episode. people on imdb are losing their shit over it.
re heisenbergs not being able to sleep after it - i watched it in the morning & p much spent the rest of the day online watching & reading reactions to the show. my mate watched it last night & phoned me when i was just drifting off to sleep. i was up another 3 hours after that still dealing w/the fallout. am wrecked today.
proper event television.
& it's like we've got a global watercooler now where we can all get together & talk about it.

You're right. I will sort that.

Agree with pretty much everything else you say. People do seem to regard the latest episode as genuinely great television. I just don't want the programme to end but it's careering so violently into utter carnage it obviously has to.

Some Grammys looking inevitable for this now I'd say. Brian Cranston at the very least.

My sister got me a Los Pollos Hermanos t-shirt last Christmas. I must say I am tempted by the ltd ed Blu-ray set that's coming out, designed like one of walt's barrels.

Right now, I'm genuinely concerned for Jesse. The sheer bleakness of his situation was the most unbearable as the episode ended.

And kudos for adding the spoiler alert to the title. I've avoided talking about the actual story lines directly on here. To have this show ruined for someone is really cruel and unforgivable. I remember my mates gf ruined the season 4 finale and I honestly it took me all my power to keep my anger and disappointment in her to myself (deep breath, it's only a tv show!).

Have they not already done a flash forward to Walt in a diner on his 53rd birthday and back at the his house - which has been reduced to rubble?

I can see the final showdown of just Walt and Jesse. How things have changed from the time when damaging each other big time wasn't a line either would cross.

I didn't catch that. That's what's great about the show - the extra details they toss in every episode are remarkable. You don't need to know about them to enjoy/understand the show, but they make repeat viewings that much better.

When walt was pushing the barrel of cash through the desert on the way to the native american dood's house, he passed a pair of pants lying the ground in the corner of the frame - I had to go back and rewind it out of disbelief - it was his pair of pants from the pilot that he left in the desert after the first cook. That blew me away.

i saw the pants at the time but never made the connection until i read it online.

i never learned how to play chess. one of my life's many regrets.
maybe when/if i go to prison.

more mundane ep this week. they shoulda had SFA's Cabin Fever in the soundtrack for this one.
safe to assume the ricin's for gretchen & the machine gun is for the floppy eared grey matter guy? they gotta be on the hitlist now..

oh jesse... jesse jesse jesse. it's kinda all walts fault but still, the guy's played enough videogames to know to lookout for cctv camera's when you're trying to sneak away from a bunch of neo nazi's.

todd is just insane. in the good & bad way. team todd ftw.
he really is such a great character. his horrible little grin @ the top of the show where they're watching jesse talk about him killing the kid was just super creepy.
i still haven't watched friday night lights but i have to confess i didn't think the actor had it in him when he first came in. i think he's been a revelation. one of many great acting displays in the series.

jesse plemons is a really fucking good actor I think. his character in friday night lights is so different from todd, it's almost unbelievable. I thought he was also really cool in the master as the sort of outsider son playing along w/ lancaster dodd's (hoffman's) whole game. he's always very subtle, which I like a lot (also, that makes it so that the few times he does get intense in FNL are that much more meaningful). It's interesting, in both FNL and [Br][Ba] he started as a side character and clearly just brought so much to the role that they expanded it. good stuff.

I don't know if the gun is for the grey matter people... I think maybe the ricin is, but it seems like there has to be some convergence of walt and jesse's storylines. I think there will be some sort of confrontation between walt and the neo-nazis in the last episode.

This show, great as it is, has gotten very, very dark. The recent two episodes have been gruelling to watch and have really taken it out of me emotionally. Remember the days when Walt and Jesse together could just about get out of any situation? There has been zero respite this season.

If I've learned anything from watching this series lately, it's that my life (in its mundanity) is paradise. No one in this show is going to escape that last episode in anything other than a nightmare. It will be interesting to see how it ends.

I'd forgotten all about him in the master yea he was really good in it.
Hard to justify my liking of Todd when he keeps killing innocents but he's just such great fun..

Yea the ricin/gun isn't for the grey matter two, just fucking around.
The ricin's for Lydia & the gun for Todds crew. The grey matter thing was just a reminder of walts 1st lost empire & motivation for getting his money back & signature meth.

I wouldn't be surprised if grey matter is tied in w/madrigal but it's a bit late in the day for them to make that happen..

Wow, I had completely forgotten about the Gray Matter thing. Really interesting that they brought that back at the very end. I an absolutely dumbfounded as to what is going to happen to Jesse. He's going through absolute hell right now. I hope he doesn't die in the end. I loved the scene where Todd brought him ice cream. Another great episode.

i'm dismayed @ the lack of loyalty shown to walt by his family.

walt jr was such a jerk to him. skyler attacking him w/a knife walt jr phoning the cops. even hank, so ungrateful after walt paying his medical bills. they shoulda supported him. they have fucked up values. it's like they've never seen the godfather: never go against the family.

Walt has lied to his family since the beginning of the series - just relentlessly - so I understand the lack of loyalty. I think they included 'lie number 1' in last week's flashback to the first cook. Walt Jr. protecting his mum in that crazy knife scene was Walt losing the very last person who loved him, the ONLY person he had left - very significant.

The scene this week where Todd and his ski masked crew were in Holly's bedroom made the hairs on my arms stand on end. Talk about tension. I am very impressed with how they have elevated Todd into this central character - he's a complete monster!

As for Jesse. Man alive the writers are sparing him nothing the poor bastard!

The Grey Matter thing is a great twist. I had wondered if that might be in Walt's mind somewhere so it was excellent they re-introduced it. And as Walt watched the TV clip I too was raging at the Grey Matter pair!

I just can't imagine the carnage next week will have in store. They have to go all out for the finale.

The recent references to the King (All Hail the King promo, King of Kings: Ozymandias and also the chess board reference) yet no one has referred to him as the king in the series as far as I can recall. This got me thinking about about Shakespeare and how the series has played out similar to some of his stuff. I don’t know too much about shakespeares works bar the usual suspects but King Lear came to mind. King Lear dies of grief because of his daughters death (the show isnt pullin any punches lately) ...could be a goer but Im sticking to the ricin. I found this last night when looking up King Lear characters. For me it makes the King Lear angle a bit more plausible. Most likely way way off the mark and your welcome to lput me in the stocks and throw fruit and veg but It was fun thinking about it. I love the continuous curve balls the series throws and its so well done. a game changer for tv.
as per the last few posts, runcible, warmth, heisenberg ...Im with you, its looking like a bloodbath

the finale trailer if you havent caught it>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HAQt2sKC_E

Walt/Heisenberg = Lear
>An elderly king who wishes to retire from power, but is unable to figure out how to divide the spoils of his conquests. He does not respond well to being contradicted or challenged and he prioritizes the appearance of love over actual devotion. He wishes to maintain the power of a king while unburdening himself of the responsibility.

Skyler = Goneril
>An aggressive, treacherous and ungrateful woman who is a known adulterer with Edmund (Ted). Was once loyal but now works only to serve her own interests and ruin Lear.

Marie = Regan
>Sister of Goneril, not quite as cunning as her sibling, but works with Cornwall to undermine Lear.

Jesse = Gloucester
>Lear's most loyal and long-standing ally, but also prone to moral weakness and indecisiveness. After initially doubting him, he is arrested and mortally wounded defending Lear.

Todd = Kent
>Another ally of Lear, but known to be more blunt and straightforward than Gloucester (Jesse), which often puts him in conflict with him and Lear.

Mike = The Fool
>The character foil to Lear who accompanies him and dispenses advice, although this advice is not always in the best interest of his kingdom. He clearly knows much more than he lets on. He eventually dies in the service of the King.

Hank = Cornwall
>Husband to Regan. A domineering, often cruel man who single-mindedly pursues the persecution of Lear and Gloucester, even though he sometimes does not know why.

>> Anonymous 2012-09-17 02:29:49 No.25875883
>>25875873
Gomez = Albany
>Close friend of Cornwall (Hank) who follows in his persecution of Lear, although he's good at heart and more moral than his friend and opposes the radical, sometimes cruel methods of Cornwall

Saul = Edgar
>A man who assumes many roles and disguises to help Lear and Gloucester, somewhat gullible but is eventually found to be loyal. Foil to Edmund and serves in keeping him at bay.

Ted = Edmund
>The scheming adulterer who doesn't realise the forces he's meddling with. Causes great upset and discord in Lear's household.

Walt Jr. = Oswald
>Steward boy in the service of Goneril's household. Obeys the commands of his mistress and helps her in the serving of food.

Holly = Cordelia
>Favourite daughter of the King, probably the only person he truly loves.

Episode 1 of Season 5 gave us a glimpse of Lear (Walt) being cast out of Goneril's (Skyler's) house onto the heath. Season 5 has charted Lear's slow descent into madness as he realises his kingdom is worthless and his accomplishments are crumbling around him at the hands of schemers and traitors.

its been some journey

JW, you're losing it, man. Walt destroyed his family. He may have had good intentions going into it, but they all went out the window a long time ago. Why on Earth you think that Walt Jr. would support Walt after all of the shit that's gone down is completely beyond my comprehension.

what does walt jr actually know anyway? all the info he's got has been from the twisted bitter women in the family. he never gave walt the chance to explain for himself.

i mean his aunt marie is a shoplifter, how come she's so high & mighty & his uncle covered that shit up. when it comes to walt suddenly he's public enemy #1 w/no reprieve? poor walt i say! after all he's done for his family for them to turn on him like that is unjustifiable. they've no loyalty & messed up family values. why choose hank over walt? jnr needs to man up before it's too late. it's already too late. it's his fault! walt & the family could've finally ridden off into the sunset together but no, walt jr & skyler had to fuck it all up. they're supposed to be a family!

Breaking Bad Pick 'Em
http://www.avclub.com/articles/breaking ... le,103458/

The series finale of Breaking Bad is nigh, and while it’ll surely be sad, why not make it profitable as well? A Breaking Bad Pick ‘Em betting sheet is floating around Twitter, just in time for all those finale parties and sad drinking events. Macabre watchers can fork over $5 a sheet to bet with their friends, and then try to earn points based on whether characters like Todd, Marie, and the vacuum repair guy live or die in the finale. Guessing a character’s fate earns you one point, while guessing his or her killer nabs you two. The person with the highest points takes home the cash. In the case of the tie, the money goes to whoever guesses who the ricin cigarette takes out. Our guess: Walter.

The closer it gets the more difficult I find it to predict who'll make it & who won't.

Think Walt will die & possibly a few others. I just hope it's surprising. I'm p certain it'll be satisfying & really good but a few threads needing resolution mean there's prob little scope for real twists. A minor quibble of course & I could be totally wrong, but everything's kinda set in place & we're just waiting to see the final reaction..

I hope the Grey Matter 2 get what's coming. They've never had the charm of the other villains. A lot of theories they're some kinda super villains in bed w/Madrigal/Lydia. Kinda hoping it's not as simple as that. That's the kinda predictability I hope they avoid. But I still want those smug greedy assholes to pay for what they've done to poor Walt! Maybe the ricin is for them after all..

& I hope if/when Walt finds Jesse he doesn't take pity on him & make peace (& vice versa). They've both put each other thru too much (tho mostly it's been Jessie's fault!) to simply let it be water under the bridge.
I mean will Jesse kill Walt? Will he kill Todd? There's been so much speculation it's near impossible for the writers to come up a/something that hasn't been touted but I'm hoping they can & still deliver a satisfying send off..

“You're not Dostoevsky,' said the citizeness

'Well, who knows, who knows,' he replied.

'Dostoevsky's dead,' said the citizeness, but somehow not very confidently.

'I protest!' Behemoth exclaimed hotly. 'Dostoevsky is immortal!”

We just watched the finale... Sitting on the edge of the sofa leaning forward and at times I had my hands on my head at what was going on. It ended as it should - with loose ends being tied up superbly and fitting exits for those who needed to go. It's just so fucking clever.

So ends the single greatest TV series I have ever watched. Hats off to absolutely everyone - actors and behind-the-scenes team etc. A total triumph.

Found it a little bittersweet, mixed emotions. Some powerful scenes but overall I'm not sure about the level of redemption & acknowledgement afforded Walt. It all seemed a little too neat & tidy too: what was to stop Lydia immediately calling an ambulance explaining her condition? Wasng it a little convenient Uncle Jack brought Jesse in to see Walt & not Walt outside to see Jesse??

I don't know. It was perfect closure & I don't want to say predictable like it's a bad thing as everything had been put in place, it just felt more of an epilogue or denouement than an explosive end game. Even tho, paradoxically it still was. It was a perfect finale, everything was resolved & logically too completely inkeeping w/the series as a whole so I don't really want to seem overly critical of it, it just seemed.. I don't know. 'El Paso' aside it lacked some humour too, tho it was nice to see Badger & Skinny Pete..

I mean I don't know what else I would have wanted from the show. If they had done something else I'd have found fault in that too. I guess I just focus on the negatives.. I mean the scenes w/skyler & holly were terrific as was the one at the house of the grey matter 2. & the machine gun was so cool & it did provide perfect closure so..

I just finished it and thought it was perfect. I KNEW Jesse wouldn't die, but really wasn't sure about anything else and the surprises kept coming. The scene where Walt coerces the Gray Matter 2 into forming a trust fund for Walt Jr. was genius. The crazy fucking heavy-duty automatic weapon hidden in the trunk of the car!!!! So fucking awesome.

That been said, I think there is more to the story. I want to know what happens with Jesse. There's still that kid out there that is an orphan now thanks, in part, to Jesse. Surely, he will attempt to take care of that kid. Also, I can't imagine that the Feds are going to leave him alone. I wish the spin-off series was focused on Jesse instead of Saul.

My two favorite tv shows up to this point were Twin Peaks and Six Feet Under. I think Breaking Bad tops both of them.
