While I wasn't able to get a top down look from the floor, I swear I saw him use the Acid Fuzz pedal in 2012 (id'd from the black, rectangular box with very bright LED on the rate). I've also heard him use a phaser in the last decade but no idea which one.

I just did some googling and he uses the light green Boss PN-2 Tremolo/Pan pedal. I also saw a Turbo Rat and a BBE Boosta Grande (clean boost). Of course, he may have made changes, but that's what I'm seeing online.

You're both right thinking about it. Don't remember him using anything other than a Thinline or Jaguar. And have definitely seen him step on a tremolo pedal live.
Derailing the thread a bit, but it is quite surprising how minimal the bands pedal boards are. Distortion, wah wah, tremolo, thats about it. I think Mike Mooney used to use a bit more delay but on the whole its about what the band play rather than how it sounds.

I think he used a jazzmaster in 2015 a few times. Glastonbury maybe? Don't think it's the same model that's been appearing in the EWB promo photos.

I did see a photo of Pierce with a Jazzmaster when I was was doing pedal research. He has always used a Fender Thinline Tele every time I have seen Spiritualized live. I also noticed that he's got a non-reverse Gibson Firebird in the photo attached to this article:

Note that if you scroll down into the article you can see a portion of the Vox Invader on the right.

Bit difficult to see in the pic, but I'm certain the Vox guitar to the right is not an Invader. The headstock is different, and there are no switches for the onboard effects where they would be on the Invader. I think it looks more like a Vox Bulldog: https://retrofret.com/product.asp?ProductID=8166

I've taken quite a few pics of his gear over the years, the RAT, colorsound wah, and the PN-2 are the staples of his set up, add in a coopersonic repeater for good measure. That big silver box is a Coopersonic Valveslapper.

Wah - Wah wrote: Mon Feb 07, 2022 8:09 pm So here are my first impressions after the first few spins today.
1. Always together with you : I like the old version better, which is spacier and more minimal.
2. Best thing you never had : sounds promising, might be a grower soon. Not electric enough for something like Electricity though. No ballad either.
Sits somewhere inbetween.
3. Let it bleed : this one sounds too much like Spz by numbers to me. Reminds me of Out of sight. I`m not sure if I`ll ever really like it.
4. Crazy : I like it ! It`s so soft and warm. You will have heard it by now anyway.
5. The Mainline song : I was hoping for something like Electric Mainline and yes, here we go. So uplifting and hypnotic at the same time. That`s it.
I`ve always liked the two Kenzo songs anyway and never knew why they were hardly ever mentioned or appreciated ? I see myself listening to the Mainline song and the two Kenzo songs in a row for 40 minutes of bliss now. Good, better times ahead !
6. The A song : this one is getting noisy again, I missed that ! It sounds very different from the live version, so I still have to get used to it, but it is as good as I expected.
7. I`m coming home again : this is a very interesting song, reminds me of the last few minutes of Cop shoot cop, strange atmosphere, it doesn`t go anywhere, but that`s what makes it interesting and special. That`s a good thing in this case. I guess this will be a grower, too.
Overall impression : my expectations were even higher after the good reviews, but it`s a good album. The album is very short plus many songs are not completely new. The best of this and and And nothing hurt combined would have been a new masterpiece.
I'm in agreement with most of this. I think for me, it would've benefited from a few minor changes in the tracklisting for a better flow. Simply move Best Thing You Never Had to track 4 to close the first half of the album, and add additional song to close the album to make it a little longer (I feel like the album is unresolved with I'm Coming Home Again as the closer).

I would've preferred this to be a double album. I don't think I could drop a song from it, but for the sake of making it 4 sides, I removed I'm Coming Home Again (which I would otherwise place after The A Song).

Side A
1. Here it Comes
2. Best Thing You Never Had
3. Let it Bleed
4. Let's Dance

Side B
5. A Perfect Miracle
6. I'm Your Man
7. Crazy
8. The Morning After
9. Damaged

Side C
10. The Mainline Song
11. On the Sunshine
12. The A Song

Side D
13. Always Together With You (either here, or swapped with The Prize)
14. The Prize
15. Sail on Through

Maybe the mods should move the gear talk to a separate thread?
Maybe i meant Jazzmaster when i said Jaguar.. never been able to identify the difference just looking at them.

Jaguar has more chrome, switches, and knobs, It's the short scale model with single coil pickups. Jazzmaster (this is what Doggen plays) has a traditional 25.5" scale length and the giveaway for a Jazzmaster are the large soapbar like pickups.

Happy to do so - will attempt to shortly

There is a little-used subtopic for this I guess - pretty cool to see Jason’s limited set up really. Have you seen Kevin Shields thing ??!!

Hard to see, but I think Jason is playing a Jaguar here. Maybe it belongs to John Coxon. Can't quite remember, but I think the Jag is also listed as being used by Jason on PP and L&G.

J plays a Jaguar too, and a Jazzmaster in some shows in the last decade (and ANH promos). The Jaguar and other gear are mentioned the liner notes for a lot of his albums. The real stars are his Fender Thinline Teles.

There's a video of him playing an Epiphone Casino in the making of Songs in A & E video. One of those ones often listed in the record sleeves but never used live.

I wonder if the American customers are getting them early because the tour is there right now, meaning that other territories are going to have to wait until the official date of 22/04.

Got mine today and am enjoying it as I type. The live versions from Dallas 12 days ago were much different, not better, just different. I need a download code to fully immerse myself for the next week.
Enjoy!

There was a feature on Spiritualized in this months UNCUT (the 300th issue) on Spiritualized. Ladies and Gentlemen... finished #4 in the all time list of 300 LPs of UNCUT's lifetime. There was a nice feature on the making of 'I think I'm in Love' which also featured on the free CD.

I don’t know if anyone actually noticed but in the end of “Always together with you”, there are some lyrics that are not included in the lyric sites. It is kind of an outro that starts in 4:10.

Do you know those lyrics?

Yeah, I've never been able to quite make them out since the original version was released. I wonder if they are printed inside the record artwork? Perhaps one of our friends in the US who have their copies can fill us in?

Got my deluxe version in the mail today. On first listen, the first side sounds really bad. Lots of noise and almost like my speakers were blown out. Second side sounds better. Love the album though! I'm definitely a fan of this one.

My package of the deluxe LP, standard LP and CD arrived from Kontraband this morning. I'm just about to settle down to play it. I think I'll try the standard LP first as this is hopefully a decent pressing.

EDIT: My copy of the LP on black vinyl is beautifully pressed. Absolutely free of surface noise and/or pressing flaws. The artwork in the limited edition box set is absolutely stunning. Taken as a whole this is a superb LP.

The first line at 4.10 is “Just when you thought your life came in a bag of white / Sucked up a silver tube, changes your attitude,”. I read this in a review and now i know it i can hear it.

My box set came today as well...absolutely beautiful packaging. A real joyful unboxing moment until I pulled out gold-foiled sleeve. Chunks of the foil scratched down to the paper. The actual vinyl is a dirty mess but nothing that can't be cleaned off...I'll never understand on why something so expensive they can't use poly sleeves. Makes no sense to me.

That being said the album is an absolute stunner and having these first listening experiences with this band are moments I absolutely cherish. The abstinence these last few months took was near impossible but so thankful I did. Can't wait to see them in the Tennessee caves come September.

That’s wild indeed! The end sequence on the ‘Always Forgetting With You’ take has that I guess, I always assumed it was “stuck on a silver tree / changes your altitude”, lots of other occluded and somewhat dark lyrics there. I think. It’s like ‘A Perfect Miracle’ in that regard.

After a challenging week, I clicked on the Kontraband link for postage details and it claims I should have the big box thing and CD early tomorrow.

Don’t fail me now… I need this depot of pure Spiritualized®

As long as work doesn’t fuck things up, my plan is to have a listening event with my newish setup as loud as I can. Plus I’m ‘entertaining’. 🤞🏼🚀💊🤯🔥

Anyone with the vinyl....does it include a download code? Discogs leads me to believe it does not.

Just got to Best Thing You Never Had. Wowzers!

My box set arrived today, even worked from home to make sure I was in and didnt miss it !
Side one thus far and its quite superb. Just what I/we all needed I'm sure. Looking forward to catching up wth a few on here this year at various gigs

Pressing is OK on first listen, think would benefit from a good clean

Happy release day, friends.

Love the record. Laid In Your Arms in particular is just incredible.

I didn’t even mind the postman waking me up very early this morning with a reassuringly heavy box…

Anyone with the vinyl....does it include a download code? Discogs leads me to believe it does not.
There was a download code with the black vinyl LP. I didn't notice one in the box set.
cheers for that!

I really like this album. I feel more enthusiastic about it than I have about a Spiritualized record in years. It's got more of the elements I liked most about the band, the noisy, psychedelic ones, which have been sorely lacking for most of the last 20 years. Really looking forward to seeing them next week.

I paid over 12 quid postage back in December to get this on "release day", or so I thought, but nothing has arrived today.

Absolutely shit service yet again by Kontraband after the scam of the non-numbered re-issue set box.

Jason really needs to bin this lot of amateurs off pronto.

Nothing specific to that track, but I see you get a mention in the thanks. Do you have a new story to tell us?!
Ummm... I filmed a video at the Pappy & Harriets gig and uploaded it to YouTube?

I have a playlist of both albums combined as what I imagine it would sound as a double album. Someday I'll make a vinyl rip and take a stab at this to extend some songs, and have it flow together a little better.

I don't post much here, and it pains me to write this. My standard LP came yesterday and last night it got it's first play. Always an 'event', the first listening. However the record is so badly pressed I've only played side one. An almost constant layer of static/crackling, which during the quieter parts is astonishingly loud. I played my 'control record', Public Service Broadcasting - Bright Magic', which has lots of quiet sections, to check my equipment was working as it should, which it was.

I'm giving up on Spiritualized vinyl because it's an absolute crapshoot whether you get anything decent or not and that's not the way it should be. I'm envious of those who got good ones and again, this shouldn't be the case. Three versions of Pure Phase reissue I received were awful and I ended up returning them all and not reordering a fourth. I don't recall having these issues during the 70's/80's and during the vinyl revival, excluding Spiritualized, I've maybe returned two records out of 200+ I've bought. It's not cheap buying vinyl and you should be able to anticipate the album as the artist wants you to hear it rather than 'worry' about the pressing. Now it's a faff-on returning it and ordering the CD. Not a massve task, but it's spoiled my initial experience of what people say is a superb album. Probably won't have enough time to become familiar with it before gigs in a week or so.

As an aside, I'd buy a CD in 12" album packaging if that was an option. I don't stream, I don't download (legally or illegally), I buy my records from independant stores or from merch stalls at gigs. Some would say I'm the perfect 'consumer', but this has royally peed me off and it's trying my patience.

Absolutely blown away by the new LP. I bought the pink vinyl version and my copy is perfect, disappointed there is no download so just bought the FLAC via bandcamp. I'm a long term fan and this is the best LP since LAGWAFIS imo.

My boxset arrived today. Immaculate condition; no bumps or scrapes so very happy. It's beautifully put together and I'm super pleased with it.
Just about to hear the final song as type, but my copy is super clear with any noise issues as seen with the reissues near impossible to hear. The dynamics of the LP seem really good to my ears. I'm by no means knowledgeable in these things but everything sounds "right". The drumming during The Mainline Song sounds superb as an example. It's like they finally got it "right". Even after listening to the leaked version for a few months, this still sounds fresh and vibrant and new. Can't fault it at all.

There was nothing more frustrating than all the issues we say with the reissues last year and I for one was gutted with some of them. Spz albums should be nothing short of perfect when it comes to release. Jason doesn't put all this work in for someone to think an "ok" pressing is acceptable. I'd really hate to hear others are getting sub par copies of this. :(

UPDATE: Only blemish I heard was a slight pop on the last 30secs of the last track. Will give it a clean and another listen tomorrow when ihave more time. Still thrilled with it.

Ah, hadn't made the connection. Very cool to get a namecheck. Perhaps they were jamming it on that night and needed to check the recording to remember how it went!

I didn't get mine either and it's Saturday. Looking back, I don't think any record I've bought from them has ever turned up on the Friday (or the Saturday) the record came out. Always had to wait until the week after. You'd think ordering from the site would ensure that you'd at least have it for the weekend. Very annoying.

First listen tonight - some call backs to previous records, which I really like. Euphoric, would be the one word I would describe this record. I'm not 100% sure that ANH suffered from budgetary issues but EWB sounds like they fucking let it rip in the best way. I've always loved it when SPZ go nuts and this one ticks that box. First impression left me grinning.
