Harris vs Trump
I'm thinking and hoping that Harris can win. A good debate performance would go a long way in helping her campaign. After trying to figure out who would be the best candidate to beat Trump, it appears it was her all along. She seems to have risen to the occasion, but Trump is still going to be tough to beat.

Re: Harris vs Trump
I wasn't going to vote for "Old Joe" nor Trump, obviously. With the elections 2 months away the timing couldn't be more perfect. Young or younger than the other candidates, Kamala is injecting new blood and youth into the movement. Staunch Democrat donors had the same idea that "Old Joe" is simply too old and senile at this point. When the switch was made by Old Joe handing the torch to Kamala Harris $ 80 million dollars flowed into her coffers within 24 hours - unprecedented ! $ 200 million dollars within the week. Momentum is working for her as " Orange Face Man " is bumbling and spewing nonsense and the Republicans at this point are frightened and they should be ! It'll be a close election, but I feel Kamala Harris will pull it off. #KamalaHarris24!
Re: Harris vs Trump
Except that Harris is also a massive genocide enabler. I suppose it depends on ones priorities. I don't live in the States so can't really comment but the mass slaughter in Gaza must have a bearing ? Altho both main parties are on the Zionist payroll so the Palestinians are fucked whatever. ... horrendous 'human beings' the pair of them

Harris can--and, I suspect, will--win.
To Spencer's point, I'm certainly not going to begrudge any Palestinian-American (or any other person of conscience, really) for withholding their vote. The whole "lesser of two evils" thing makes no Goddamn difference to anyone while the bombs are falling, and until America ends the client state relationship with Israel it's going to keep on happening no matter which party is in charge.
That said, there is an outside chance of moving Kamala to the left on this issue. Trump will merely ensure that Gaza is bombed until there's scarcely a Palestinian person left. Speaking for myself (a Jewish, staunchly anti-Zionist American), it's not a difficult choice, but even the fact that it is a "choice" is an absolute moral nightmare. Fuck Bibi, and fuck everyone who enables this to continue.

Nice post but I'm not convinced Kamala will do anything but continue the flow of arms and hold those nutjobs in power in Israel close her bosom. But yes a moral nightmare.A saint wrote: Wed Aug 28, 2024 7:57 pm Harris can--and, I suspect, will--win.

Re: Harris vs Trump
I agree with Spencer that Harris' statements on Gaza have been atrocious. The GOP paints her as a radical socialist, but there's truly no evidence to support this. I wish she was as progressive as they portray her. But honestly, her track record is not great. With that said, Biden was similarly Neo-Lib, yet he has been quite progressive in his policies. His funding of genocide is something I cannot look past, however. He has forever earned the title of “Genocide Joe.”
I concur that Harris will continue funding our modern-day Hitler. Even so, I will be voting for her. I'm in a potential swing state and don't think a no-vote of protest will accomplish anything positive. Trump loves fascist dictators almost as much as he loves Ivanka. And I mean, Trump called Biden a Palestinian as a pejorative. He is a xenophobic psychopath who would watch any “shithole country” burn. I'm black-pilled like Spencer and realize the outcome for Palestine will be the same whether it's Trump or Harris. I'm gritting my teeth and voting for Harris, due to the myriad of domestic issues Trump is psychotic on. And I do think he is a threat to democracy. But my wife refuses to vote for Kamala after her recent, disgusting comments about Israel and Gaza, so I don't fault anyone for refusing to vote for her. Just please vote down-ballot.

My hometown Springfield, OH has become the white hot center of the immigration debate even though all of them are legal immigrants from Haiti. Trump said these immigrants were stealing and eating people's pet cats and dogs. These has been shown to be completely false, but Trump and Vance still say it's true. The Republican Mayor of Springfield and the Republican Governor of Ohio have said it is untrue. Now there have been multiple bomb threats in the city. Trump has said he wants to visit Springfield, which will just make things worse.

Same. We have weeks/months ahead of us that will be very problematic (trying to be PG). Hope fascism and autocracy lose out by a landslide.

well, here we are.
asking myself what resistance is going to look like, on a micro and macro level. what can I do to look after myself and others. what positive charges can I make. how can we maintain strength (and hope) through community.

Re: Harris vs Trump
As a Brit, I’m utterly depressed. I get why he won: I think his disingenuous call to nostalgia in respect of his economic record really cut through with a lot of voters. It’s entirely illusory, of course, but it resonated.
I worry about what it means for us in the UK, to say nothing of the fate that lies ahead for tens of millions of Americans, and particularly its more vulnerable citizens. I can see inflation going back up if the US imposes high tariffs, and I fear for the North Atlantic alliance and, of course, Ukraine and, in turn, Poland.
On a more personal level, it makes me question my fundamental assumptions. If someone like that can reclaim the Presidency, despite - or perhaps because of - those who put him there knowing what they know about him, what’s the point of trying to be decent and compassionate? To abide by the law? To respect truth and try to live a decent live? To bring up your kids to do the same?

Re: Harris vs Trump
I feel like this wouldn't have happened if Bernie was nominated over Hillary. The same people who voted for Trump have been failed by the Democrats and party Republicans over and over. Trump will fail them too.

Re: Harris vs Trump
Yeah, to avoid this the democrats would have had to have seriously changed and improved people's living standards.
There are obviously major factors of bigotry involved in Trump's support, but fundamentally I don't see how a government can stay in power while people are being crushed by the cost of living. Voters will always go to an alternative in that case. Everything feels broken, and no party is even looking at fixing it.

The moment Bernie ever stood as a candidate he would have been shot down, torn apart and vilified by the mainstream press.Hans Lucas wrote: Thu Nov 07, 2024 12:17 am I feel like this wouldn't have happened if Bernie was nominated over Hillary. Re: Harris vs Trump
It is astonishing that 16 million less people voted in this election than 2020.
That is where the election was lost. Why? No idea. My guess is Gaza played a major role.
Prior to the election I thought this would have been a Harris win. I was convinced.
The fact so many bought the lies, racism, misogyny, his MSG nazi rally and downright nastiness has me shaking my head and it breaks my heart.
A convicted felon, sexual predator, top military secrets thief is going to get another 4 years? WTF is wrong with those who voted for him.
After the first Trump presidency and how difficult those 4 years were I sure as hell am horrified what the next 4 years are gonna bring. I am very concerned about my female friends, friends in the LGBTQ community, Also the immigrants. So many people will be targeted if he follows through with what he ran on.
Like I have said to close friends I am going to concentrate on things I can control and watch a ton more sports and play even more music.
It is a blessing that the NFL Detroit Lions are so good this year and will be a nice distraction. Now if the Detroit Pistons & Red Wings would follow suit.....
I just hope this doesn't turn into a replay of January 1933 in Germany.

Re: Harris vs Trump
He was a candidate. Also politicians base their own candidacies on culture wars and the media eats that shit up.

Re: Harris vs Trump
I agree with everything thing you've said and the need to take a step back from the regular checking of news sites, pouring over reports and watching the various YouTube commentary pieces. I've spent quite a bit of time doing this for about 10-15 years and I just don't think it's healthy. There is a need to ensure I'm up-to-date with current affairs and aware of the shit-show that will be inevitable but not to the extent of before. Luckily, I feel that this has been possible for me in the UK now we've had a change of government.spzretent wrote: Fri Nov 08, 2024 2:36 pm

What I am considering is to look for ways to ensure that Farage's Reform Party are countered in my area. With Trump's return, that will fuel Farage in the UK and I fear that. I feel I should consider becoming more active to raise proper scrutiny of them and their policies. I know there is a few years to go till our next election but would hate for us to sleep walk into them gaining another MP next time.
For now, though, like you, I'm enjoying my sport, music, looking for gigs to plan for and try and ensure a healthy balance. Keeping fit and getting out into the countryside, camping is where I'm at ATM.
