Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
Tickets for Bristol secured. Went into total panic mode when given the option of ‘best available’ tickets when going through the ticket link via the Spiritualized website. Then went directly through the Bristol Beacon website and selected front row side balcony. Then had another panic after checkout and noticing “partial restricted view”! I’ve now seen that they’ve given this for all the side seats so hoping it’s not a major issue.
Like I said, going to be making a bit of a weekend of it with Mrs Shines but would be great to meet up with fellow Forumites for a pre-gig drink.

Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
There's a seating plan for the Glasgow venue here. Middle of row F for me, I wasn't able to choose with the pre-sale, but that's OK.mywhitenoise wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:38 am Can anyone give me some info on these, and let me know how good of seats they are?

For the Barbican, depends if you are talking Row H in the stalls or Row H in the circle. Row H in the circle is not all that great. In the stalls they're pretty good seats, if a little bit to the side.mywhitenoise wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:38 am Can anyone give me some info on these, and let me know how good of seats they are?

Looking at the remaining availability for the Barbican I'd say it is 50/50 on a second date there.

Looks like those are pretty much dead centre of the stalls, should be very good for both the sound and the view.mywhitenoise wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:38 am Can anyone give me some info on these, and let me know how good of seats they are?

I think that’s really positive news that they can still sell out the Barbican. Would love to see them sell out all these shows and more. Would definitely encourage Jason to perhaps revisit LGM as well.

Woke up right in time for the second Barbican date. Got front row for that one.
Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
I'm a bit surprised they pushed the button so quickly on it, to be honest - there are still a couple of hundred seats left for the first show easy. Those are going to be hard to shift now.Shinesalight wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 3:57 pm I think that’s really positive news that they can still sell out the Barbican. Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
I suppose the costs of adding in a second consecutive night are lower than setting up for the first night, but they did add it in surprisingly quickly with the first night not sold out. Would have loved to get front row stalls for the Thursday had I known, but having forked our already for central circle tickets for the Wednesday going to stick with that. Should be great anyway. Will be interesting to see if they add any more shows.

Praying we get the full on light show for this
Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
I ended up heading to Glasgow. Booked via phone will on the way to a site visit but didn't seem to get a choice on seats. In the upper circle but that seems ok to me. Last time I went to the Theatre Royal was a school trip to a pantomime aged about 10, I think.
Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
Somehow missed this entirely until this afternoon but still managed to get Glasgow tickets. Saturday night, interesting venue, can't wait.
Even less interest in their set at Rockaway Beach now mind.

Barbican. Never been at that venue, gonna be my first time. Let's meet before the show!
Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
Tickets in the pocket for 2nd night at the Barbican!
Rather exited for this one as their last gig I saw them (fuzz club eindhoven) was extremely tame... Hope also the lights how will be a bit more special than the screensaver we had to look at in Eindhoven.
Very high expectations!

Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
I've not plucked up the courage yet to buy tickets. Just still really intimidating around the whole idea of being "out", the logistics of getting there and back, the late finish and getting home, being around lots of people in the big smoke, would either be there on my own (don't really have friends to go with) or have my 13 year old with me (and he would find it tough as well), not being able to see anything unless right at the front and then feeling hemmed in, the sheer volume sometimes (an oxymoron I know in terms of the gig experience), the build up to a gig over several months also ramps up the anxiety sky high, the expense..... I always tend to regret these things afterwards and feel like I've missed out, but just don't feel ready to do gigs.... The whole experience is just too damn scary. Been to Spz gigs before and been barged/found moshing around me and people yelling stuff at Jason etc. The Spz gig at New Century Hall was the last one I saw and that was tricky.
There have been other tours I've regretted not going to see so many times over the years, but I know I feel safer at home. They're also playing just after my 50th birthday which would be nice and a shame to miss out, but I'm just too bloody jittery even at the thought....
Sorry if that makes me sound like a wuss....

Not a wuss at all, people all have different experiences. Although I have now taken back to the gigging with gusto, it took me a while post covid as it all felt a bit weird.
As you get older it takes more to get you out there too, the hassle. I've been guilty of being at a gig and thinking about where I parked the car or some crap!
As these are seated gigs where you will much more in control of the situation around you, maybe that helps?
I am sure spare tickets will be getting sold nearer the time, so don't think anyone neccesarily needs to miss out if they didn't get tickets right away.

As I mentioned earlier it is, in my opinion, the best venue for sound in London. It's also my favourite building in London, as I'm a huge fan of Brutalist architecture.Spacekadet wrote: Sat Oct 05, 2024 12:07 pmBarbican Hall is really, really good. But above all that, it's just a really nice place to see a gig. Staff super friendly, loads of legroom (matters to me at 6'6"), spacious bar area... what's not to like!

If I had to guess, I would say the band will be going for pretty straight interpretations of the album. that's what the L&G shows were like, give or take. There's not really time or opportunity to let their versions evolve or get clever. That said a lot of the sounds on PP are studio manipulated so that's the interesting thing.
I reckon you could put tracks in 3 categories.. this is my back of a beer mat stab at it:
Played live in relatively recent years, we know how they will sound:
Lay Back In The Sun (got a regular airing on A&E tour?)
Born Never Asked
Electric Mainline
Good Times (encore for SHSL shows, played pretty straight)
Spread Your Wings (yes only played once or twice? but played straight)
Played live but not for a long time and we don't know how their versions will differ:
Medication
Take Good Care of It
Slide Song
All of My Tears
Let It Flow
These Blues
Never played live God knows how they will sound:
Electric Phase
Feel Like Goin' Home

I do like the PP version of Take Good Care Of It but I much prefer the live versions of it prior to the release of PP. I remember hearing it on FUI and that Glastonbury sampler mix tape that came free with the NME and being blown away, getting really excited when seeing it was on the tracklisitng for the upcoming Pure Phase album and then being disappointed with how the song had transformed into something entirely different. Be interesting to see what they go with for these gigs, a straight up album interpretation or the original FUI versionSunray wrote: I'm most excited for Take Good Care Of It. Conversely... I remember being excited that there was a new track on FUI, but when I heard it, good though it was, I didn't think it added anything new to the Spiritualized canon, being a bit "more of the same". Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
With this idea "playing an album in full" there will no letting it loose. Many or at least few songs from PP have been already performed by both Doggen and Kevin behind the drum kit, surely they are familiar with the drill. The temperature at the venues will surely be high, full of spaced out expectations. I doubt the shows will be modest and it is hard to believe that there will be only 5 shows of this project and then back to "Hey Jane".angel-sighs wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:42 am If I had to guess, I would say the band will be going for pretty straight interpretations of the album. that's what the L&G shows were like, give or take. I really hope it leans into the ambient side of the album and utilises strings and brass.
Any dream encores? I'd like some rare stuff.

let's not get carried away huh, I would bet the encore will be Oh Happy Day or So Long You Pretty Thing.
but if we are dreaming, then yes some of the options people have mentioned would be amazing.
It's not like there are even any Pure Phase 'B sides' to play but some other stuff from the early era would be awesome.

Re: Jesus fucking christ!!!!
They've played with a choir and strings at Primavera before, so it's possible. But none of the Pure Phase performances have been billed as having an expanded lineup in the way the Ladies & Gentlemen shows were, so I think the lineup might be pretty much the same as more recent shows.angel-sighs wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 9:01 am I guess if they have added Primavera then that gives people hope they might take it to the states or elsewhere as well.

Spot on ! Jason seems to suggest that he wants to give it the proper treatment like LAGWAFLIS and that when the album ( Pure Phase ) came out that the reviews were lukewarm. Going to be a brilliant set of shows. I still consider the Pure Phase Tour in S.F. in 95' or so to be the best SPZ show I've seen. It helped that the venue only held about 300 punters or so.

His point is interesting about how it's more difficult to get gigs post covid. if doing Pure Phase shows makes that easier then it's a win win!

Interested to see if they make it all-seater as there's usually a standing area flanked by seats. I hope they keep it standing.

I would still do Glasgow myself, if I were you. you don't know how many more chances you will get for this particular show.
plus I find that on Spiritualized tours they generally get better as the dates go on.
