Yeah....this is fucking excellent!

dream rock for s.p.a.c.e rebels

'Third Sun'... features a lost chord or something...it shouldn't work but overwhelmingly it delivers...

It's like one long slow motion hit....beautiful.

And that's just track 1!

Heavy hardcore magic.... just what the doctor ordered....

Got mine today, too. Popped it in for the drive to work, I definitely like what I've heard so far; Bloemfontein looks like a keeper. :)

Not me. I never saw that post the first time.
Since I was the person who by happenstance walked into coffee house/Bar in Windsor Ontario on a cold winter night and and these guys happened to be playing and in a way it changed my life the way seeing a band you love for the first time happens. It was like a bolt out of the blue.
Then I exchanged emails. One thing led to another and i agreed to put their first full length record out.
I put my money where my mouth was. Thats how much i loved Bloemfontein's music. As did about the other 500-600 who bought the record minus thosewho sold it to used record shops.
So basically I take that inane post personally.

Hs post wouldn't have pissed me off nearly as much if he cited Mogwai, Godspeed or someone like that. But the Libertines????
I dunno, maybe that was his point.

I listened to them on the train the other day on my way to prague. 7am in the morning.. i actually let it repeat twice. really really wonderful stuff. i love that it has this kinda slower S3 feel mixed with a little slowdive(pygmalion). it is exactly what the doctor ordered. Thank you again Alan... it's not very often you can find a band that really gives you goose-bumps.

Out with old and in with the new but not with Bloemfontein. What songs i have heard sound dry and safe. Some of it's ok, just, but i do think i've heard better documentary music on the History Channel or somewhere.

you want to keep this public? fine.
I didn't infer you were "chasing" a copy of the cd.
I offered it to you for free. perhaps that would change your mind. silly me. i thought it was a nice thing to do.
you are obviously making some sort of point by posting what you did yesterday.
maybe it's personal. maybe its not.
i have no idea what your agenda is Jig.

I'm not 'chasing' a copy of The Longer Now, or, I'm not looking to get of a copy, i'm not in a rush for a copy, i don't think i'd like a copy, it's something i don't think i want, i'm not too fussed about getting a copy of The Longer Now. I'm not chasing a copy of blahblahblah is just an expression i used. How do you want me to say thanks but no thanks for whatever sake ?? There's a Global Communication album i've been after for a long time but now i suppose i can't say i'm chasing a copy of Blood Music: Pentamerous Metamorphosis. But......... And you sarcastically jump down my throat. All i wanted to say was a few words about blooming Bloemfontein. Nothing i have said warranted your last post and anyone can see that. Does posting on here mean you're going to scrutinise everything i say just so you can turn it around to have a dig at me ? And i have an agenda !?!?

I laugh at that because of how you are coming across. There really wasn't anything i wanted to keep public because there wasn't anything in the first place. I can't help it if i felt i found Bloemfontein bland and because i eluded to that, you go all potty. Again, i laugh.....

MUFCSPACEMAN wrote: I've held off on posting about Bloemfontein - figured I owed the album more than a couple listens, on account of Retent troubling himself to ship me a copy. But I'm of a similar mind to Jiggy so far. It's alright, but a bit nothing-y (<technical lingo).
And thats all I want. If someone shows interest then fine. I am not trying to draw conclusions for people or ramming it down anyones throat. Just giving them the opportunity. And when someone posts I will post back. I am financially invested as well as close friends with the band. And there are quite a few people on this message board who plunked down the $10 for the CD and really enjoy it. Its the only sort of marketing they get now. So....to each their own.

What I did resent was after numerous appeals for this to be handled via pm's it continued in a public forum and was thrown right back in my face. I thought that was uncalled for and for me to be reported for a specific post? I believe this to be a first on the message board.

I don't like the idea of all these new buttons, neither. I've prodded a few of them myself, out of curiosity, you understand (friend, foe). Be a good idea if some of them were left disconnected, or perhaps connected to 'unexpected' functions.
Well someone had to be the first to get "reported'.

The flipside of this new board is that moderators mailboxes aren't inundated with 50-75 emails per day for email addresses waiting for approval, most of which were spambots.

I'm not sure what reporting some post does. Especially given what my "offending" post said. I'm still trying to figure that out.

OK OK. I will look into it. It will take some time. But it is there for a reason even if people might not like it. If you do not then don't click it.

We needed to modernize the forum the old one could have been lost forever and then everyone would have freaked out like it was the 3rd world war.
The thing is when you modernize usually tons of useless things come with it. But for mods this new system is actually quite good. I will look into what
can be done. It will take some time because i wanted to make a whole new design for it. Also, only mods can see reports ;)

The words storm and teacup spring to mind. I've seen plenty more colourful exchanges here.

There are a great deal of new functions here that a non-IT expert (like myself) struggle with slightly, but this sort of comes with the excellent new package. I think everyone likes it on the whole and the relief of standard registration rather than the insane one of old is more than welcome.

I like Bloemfontein - I don't think they are the greatest band in the world but I think their feel is really nice and I can either drift into their music or have it as excellent background. And I totally support the idea of releasing stuff in the way this was done as it's done basically just to get the stuff out and available. If someone makes some money then great but my understanding is that just to break even was a bonus on this project.

Seems weird dredging up a thread that was last posted in over 9 years ago but I was at a Christmas party in Windsor Ontario last night. I was invited by Matt who played bass in Bloemfontein whom I have remained close with for the past 13+ years.
As I spoke to some folks who remember them and am friends with his entire family it prompted me to put this CD on this morning.
I can't tell you how proud I still am to have played a small part in getting this released. It is actually a bit emotional.
It takes me back to several shows I saw them play from peoples living rooms to packed clubs, going to a documentary film festival screening in Toronto as their music was used in one of the featured docs, Grinders, but most importantly remaining close to Matt and his family.
That is what this time of year is about.
Merry Christmas everyone.

PS. I just reread this thread. I want to make clear I only posted this because of how good it feels to wake up this morning, put this cd on, get goosebumps and realize I not only helped it get released but made life long friends in the process. It feels good and I felt worthy of sharing. That's all.

Funny how things sometimes work. I remember having a couple of mp3's that I downloaded probably after reading this thread. And that I always enjoyed hearing them when they turned up when the old ipod was in shuffle mode. And now the revived thread made me google for a download and found a blog by one the bandmembers with soundcloud links for a couple of tracks. Long story short, I found a second hand copy of the cd for €6 and some change delivered through amazon. Will be delivered early in the new year. Bring it on :D
