It's well worth the 99p I paid for it! I wasn't so keen on the newer material that's spread over the 2 discs - but the versions of Youth, Bedsitter, SHWG, Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go & Sex Dwarf are fantastic.

If I were you Jig, I'd pick up Soft Cell At The BBC first. I'd recommend that album highly.

Terry Callier - Alive

Live album from shows at the Jazz cafe recorded 2003 and 2005. To me Callier is the complete package; voice, narrative and arrangement. Sublime. Stand out tracks super lengthy versions of Ordinary Joe, Lazarus Man, You're Gonna Miss Your Candyman and Dancing Girl. I'd like to know of anyone else who feels TC. I know there's been discussion of Green, Gaye, Redding and Ruffin of late and while TC is more folk or jazz than soul...he got soul.

Jamie Lidell - Multiply
Sabres of Paradise - Sabresonic
Alex Smoke - Paradolia
Phil Collins - 3 Disc Boxset
Matthew Dear - Asa Breed
UNKLE - War Stories
Vector Lovers - Afterglow

The Telescopes - Taste is a great choice. Remember buying it when it came out and listened to it endlessly. Really thought with this album they could compete with SP3/SPZ but they never seemed to reach these heights again. The Perfect Needle is one of the best tracks ever. Great, great rock n roll!

Taste is worth it for The Perfect Needle alone. I always wondered why the hell most of the rest of that record is so angry.

oh yeah- i'm fuckin loving that album, my fave out of that batch at the moment. I listened to the first track, thought "this is nice, but I thought this band were really heavy?" then from the second tune onwards it's just huge screaming fuzz pedals to the max. Brilliant. I love the way they have mixed the guitars- so meaty.

It reminds me of early Ride if they were on speed and really bad-ass instead of nice boys from Oxford.

Yeah, Trademark of Quality is a good one.

Anyone buy the Telescopes compilation album Altered Perceptions? Probably their best collection of the Perfect Needle-ish material. Didn't Sonic Boom put the comp together? It get's a little tremelo laden towards the end, but still great as a whole.

Altered Perceptions is a great collection of Telescopes songs. It's definitely the album I play the most. Although the self-titled LP gets a lot of spins too in Fuzzy Towers.

I bought Taste a couple of years ago and swiftly sold it. I found it far too much of a noisy mess. It wasn't what I'd been used to from other Telescopes material. Lately though I've been thinking maybe I didn't give it enough time - beacuse I've really got into the TMOQ live album - and it's very noisy.

They're a great band.

They were a great band...I was beside myself early this year or last, can't remember, when they were finally going to play in the USA after all these years and it was shit. Randy from Fuxa kept trying to get them to play their song-based material and they just played 20 or 30 minutes of noise, and I'm pretty open minded...and I like all their albums to one degree or another including the current stuff like #4 and the Night Tremors 7". Went to both shows here in the LA area just to make sure the first wasn't fluke...oh well, got my records signed at least...and saw LSD and the Search for God for the first time which were good.
I know this doesn't have anything to do with the last 5 albums I bought, but I had to get it out...
Last 6 albums on vinyl the extra is to make up for my rant:
Uriah Heep-Looking at Yourself
Crystal Antlers-new 7" (forget the name)
1910 Fruitgum Co.-Hard Ride
Spacemen 3-Performance LP (ReFire reissue) for the collection
Jesus & Mary Chain- Munki (FINALLY FOUND IT ON VINYL!!!!!)
Vanilla Fudge-Near the Begining

It's more song based and actually has some great stuff on it like High On Fire, You Set My Soul, and Flying (which they have revampted many times over the years). The album came out in '92 on Creation and sounds just like it should for that time and place, which I still very much like.

Here's a good link to their discog and misc http://thetelescopes.com/discography/te ... raphy.html

MUFC - let me know what the Jarvis album is like. I really liked the single he put out from it. It reminded me of the Dion track Only You Know.

I ordered the Gun Club DVD you mentioned. I'd no idea either about it. Also noticed there was a Gun Club demos/live stuff 2CD album released a couple of months ago:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Da-Blood-Done-S ... 769&sr=1-5

I ordered it too.

Just three but i think I did 7 last time so

Beth Orton is good in a nice stable way, M83 is flying and typically Gravenhurst will take ages to get into.

Looking forward to Lou Rhodes' ~ Bloom, Ritchie Hawtin' ~ Concept One and Ewan Pearson' ~ Piece Work when they turn up

Talking about shopping sprees...my last five was more like my last fifty. But I'll pick 5.

1) Serphadic Inspiration, Jana Lewitova/Vladimir Merta-'Songs of the Night and Loneliness'

2) Bile Svetlo (White Light)- 'Delnici Bileho Svetla' (this band was an offshoot of the 'Plastic People of the Universe')

3) Melpomen, Conrad Steinmann- Ancient Greek Music (this was gift actually, but it's my current favourite)

4) Helmut Qualtinger singt Schwarze Lieder (Viennese cabaret music)

5) Asik Ali Izzet Ozkan (Turkish troubador from 1930s-60's)

UFO-UFO1 12" the first album...wow, how did I not won this piece of heavy history before!

Verve-Voyager 1 12" Yes!!! I found one, ebay score. waiting for arival from Japan.

RIDE- Today Forever 12" still working at the uphill battle to find RIDE vinyl in the US. Recently bought a copy of the PLAY 12"EP and it showed up craked in half...

Lupine Howl-The Carnivorous Lunar Activities of.. 12" finally found a copy of this amazing album on vinyl, was supposed to be mint, but the mail man decided to play football or god knows what with it...still plays fine, but the jacket is toast...guess I'll look for another one. Buying vinyl from overseas is getting expensive and quite the gamble...

JAMC-Munki double LP found a sealed copy of one of my favorite albums, already own it, but...it's sealed!

Slade-Slayed 12" What can I say except I'll never know how he sang like he does!

Wooden Shjips-Dance California 7" love the song, but I wish they did it with a 10" so I could play the whole thing while djing.

haven't bought them yet, but just remembered how much i used to love 'magoo' from england and thought i should revisit their stuff. psych-pop genius, very much along the lines of anything on elephant6, but english! (a big john peel favourite) i'd assumed they weren't still together, but i just checked and it looks like i was wrong. it's getting on for 10 years since i last listened to them, so i wonder what i'd make of them now...

anyone else heard them? what you think??

They usually go for much more, but I got mine for $50, the same week another went for like $150-ish(don't remember already...) which seems like the going rate now, but maybe mine got over looked while everyone was bidding up all the SPLZ vinyl...and pushing LAGWAFIS well over $200...

Just got the Voyager 1 in the mail today and it is NICE!

Is your Voyager 1 blue vinyl? There are a lot of black vinyl represses out there. Blue was the 1st issue...

Hey Runcible, what do you think of it then? I listened to it again last week and i really do think it works well. Some of my friends not familiar with Crass have commented on how good the lyrics are so job done i would say. I love the version of "I Ain't Thick..." the most out of all the tunes.

I like the Jeffrey Lewis - probably not my style but it's a great idea very well done. And I love some of it - 'Where Next Columbus?' is superb. It's also made me go back and play the Crass stuff again.

Tinariwen - Aman Iman
Funkadelic - Cosmic Slop
Funkadelic - Standing On the Verge of Getting On
Cat Power - The Greatest
Jack Nitzsche - Hard Workin' Man

Tinariwen is brilliant. True desert deep, deep funk. Amazing guitar.
The Funkadelic albums have been a long time coming. So far they sound incredible! Cheers...
Cat Power is really mellow. I heard the song 'Live in Bars' so I had to have this.
'Hard Workin' Man' has got the song - the title track - with Captain Beefheart singing - that makes this album worth its wait in gold. Without even getting to the rest.

Overlooked IMO as an album of the mid-90's that showed there was another way for rock/indie music.
I think it was recieved poorly but it certainly helped in my wander off in another direction.
If only they'd decided to release this a couple of years later and it could've been lumped in with OK Computer/LAGWAFIS/UH as an end to Brit-Pop.
However Brit-Pop was kinda over before it started and to me it (Pygmalion) was something with a tad more depth than Parklife/Definitely Maybe.
It sort of got a bit of a cult status as it was difficult to find on vinyl (FOPP in Byres Road still had some up until they stopped selling vinyl).
Anyway, I think it was an album that influenced and helped many of todays cut's n clicks/sound producers.
So a big Hooray!

Still be totally enthralled by Wooden Shjips. Think i originally found them through a recommendation by Runcilble on this board. Shine Like Suns and Lucy's Ride in particular sound like SP3 or Spectrum with really trippy drones and even the vocals sound like Sonic's in an understated way. Can't recommend highly enough.
Fuxa Commits Suicide still a great EP(?) and again nice drones to drift away to.
And then a recommendation from Julian Cope's board - Urthona - 'I refute it thus'. Really heavey and fucked up guitars that demand volume. Great counter-balance to the 2 albums above.
Can't wait for the Wounded Knees 10' to arrive - With ex-Mercury Rev Suzanne Thorpe, guitar by J Mascis and mixing by Kevin Shields - Can't wait for this!!!!
Finally got time to read Paul Drummond's book on Roky & the 13th Floor Elevators so really enjoying listening to them again as well. Book is totally comprehensive and a great read for anyone interested in the band.

Thanks
