Hey all,

Details for the Spectrum show in Oxford. The Wheatsheaf is a great little venue, very intimate with the gig in the space above the main pub.

Tuesday 24 February
SPECTRUM, ONE UNIQUE SIGNAL & SPIRAL 25
The Wheatsheaf, 129 High Street, Oxford OX1 4DF
Doors 8pm / £6 / 18+

Spectrum
Featuring Sonic Boom (ex Spacemen 3), Spectrum's touring schedule over the past year has been extensive, with solo shows taking in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and festivals; including Mutek, Mexico and ATP New York as well as 8 highly publicised shows with My Bloody Valentine.

The band will be performing the classic Spectrum and Spacemen 3 songs (including Suicide, Revolution and How You Satisfy Me) as well as material from the critically acclaimed album, Indian Giver.

One Unique Signal
London band who've taken a change in direction over the past couple of years since their previous visit to Oxford (with Aleshiachair & Caretaker).

Having played shows with the likes of The Telescopes, the band has returned to their slow-burning drone rock roots, while still utilising the grinding repetition for which they made their name as a formidable live outfit.

More of a natural evolution than a drastic overhaul, the new material takes the standard rock influences as a point of reference rather than a blueprint. Repetitious drums sit alongside wall of noise guitars, feedback, tremolos and ear piercing wah. Taking obscene levels of noise and shaping them into recognisable forms, the music seems at once both malevolent and comforting.

Drawn out bouts of feedback dissolve then erupt into mangled guitar lines, scrawling all over the just audible melodies with disregard and contempt like a moody child deliberately going outside the lines of their colouring book.
GOD IS IN THE TV

Drone rock. Spacemen 3-Stooges axis. Difficult to get something fresh from such a well-tapped vein, but they do exactly that with panache.

Spiral 25
Psychedelic space groove from this Oxford band of some pedigree with members having played in The Factory, Dirty Sci-Fi, Flite 118, Indika & Henry Marten's Ghost in previous days.

SPIRAL 25's sound draws from diverse influences ranging from the psychedelic bands of the 1960s such as 13th Floor Elevators and The Velvet Underground to space rock pioneers Hawkwind, shoegaze & psychedelic bands of the 1980s/1990s - Loop, Spacemen 3, Ride, The Jesus & Mary Chain, early 1990s British bands like The Verve and The Stone Roses right through to today's psych/psychedelic rock bands such as The Black Angels, The Warlocks, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.
