Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
Hi
Can anyone please help me out?
I had an old cassette tape of Jason DJing on Mary Anne Hobbs' Breeze Block many years ago converted to CD and I was wondering if anyone has a track listing for it? I've worked out some of them but most elude me.
Thanks

Re: Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
Any chance on getting a sendspace of that 1998 set?
Re: Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
Thanks for that Toomilk. I too have that first session on tape and wondered as to the tracklisting.
I also have a Sonic Boom Breezeblock set on the same tape so i know they were on around the same time. Anyone have a tracklisting for that?

Re: Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
I just found that Sonic breezeblock set on an old tape. It's pretty damn good if a bit short and sweet. Can anyone upload it?
Re: Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
At around the same time (Jan 1998) Spiritualized played a wonderful set on the Breezeblock including a great version of Electric Mainline. I lost my recording. Is anyone able to post this? I've been looking for it for years.
Re: Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
I printed off the set list from the 12 Feb 2002 Breezeblock show the day after the broadcast, I've just dug it out and Jason's "headline set" ended with the Gorecki pieceStuart X.Hunter wrote:Really? Micro sampling galore.toomilk wrote: Akufen - 'New Process' (Rough Trade)

Re: Jason DJing on Breeze Block years ago
Ah Simon. When will we find out what this song is called?
This the one you mean?
Baby, I need you, yes, I do / words by Mack B. Fertek ; music Archie Swindell.
Who are these guys? Wonder what name they recorded under...?
I'll tell you what though, thanks to advances in technology i'm gonna try and rip a better quality copy, if i can find the rubbish nth generation tape copy I have.
On the note of the near-mythical 1998 Breezeblock show, did I not read earlier this year someone had found a copy from the time and was planning on doing a digital transfer?
I can't remember the name and can't find the post in the search but if you are out there...please let me know! I'd really like to get a decent copy of that show...11 years later
No shit though, look, here's me having a gripe back in 2006 about what happened to one of the copies I made years before..
I ended up making a recreation of those tunes from the Breezeblock through tracking them all down. Was a golden moment indeed first realising who Dion was and what songs he'd sung. My musical education?
An insanely epic tale. Let the hunt continue!!!

Some bastard happily took the copy, overseas and all - but never bothered to send anything back. I just got no end of excuses instead! [Bit of irony there Veiko? ] I even sent a blank cassette!!
It later transpired the copy was the only copy I had. If you are still out there, anon from Canada...can I have my tape back?

Thats the on Bza. 11 years to find out a song title! I did the same as you tracking down individual tracks and trying to jigsaw it together. How good was it the first time you heard Mindtrain! Finding out about tracks like that is what makes this forum so special! this last track is the holy grail though.

Hey guys, been lurking around here on and off for years, without really posting.
Was wondering if anybody has a link to download Jason's 1998 Breezeblock set?
The one that was posted on this thread has expired.
Cheers!

Finally after years if searching. I present to you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... BDsF51H6Eo
rince La La born Lawrence Nelson (1936 - 1963) was born into a family rooted in the rich musical tradition of New Orleans. His father, Walter Nelson, was a noted jazz and R&B guitarist who played with R&B pioneer Smiley Lewis. His elder brother, Walter "Papoose" Nelson Jr., played extensively in the 50s and early 60s with Fats Domino and Professor Longhair, and was a featured session guitarist for seminal New Orleans bandlander and producer Dave Bartholomew.
A.F.O.'s publicity photos featured Lawrence in an eccentric yet regal costume drawn from both African and Mardi Gras traditions, and his otherworldly persona deeply impacted up-and-coming New Orleans musician Mac Rebennack, who borrowed much of La La's image in creating his own "Dr. John, the Night Tripper" guise.
Nelson suffering a drug overdose in 1963, he was 27. It's notable that earlier the previous year, on the 28th February, 1962, Lawrence's brother Papoose died aged 31 in New York, also from a drug overdose !

Mr Keeping... you're a genius!
A prototype Night Tripper. Wow... how did you manage to track this down in the end? Bet there's a story there in itself.
So... after 14 (fourteen!!!) years:
THE BREEZEBLOCK MISSION IS COMPLETE!

Thanks BZA! Yeah, its been a long journey hasn't it. Finally got the artist from a soul forum a few weeks back. I was pretty chuffed. I've spent DAYS trying to find it out. It must be my obsessive compulsive nature or something. Anyway, you can find it and more gold I suspect on here: http://www.acerecords.co.uk/content.php ... elease=518
There's a few more comps in the same series too that I think would be well worth checking out.
It has spurred a huge Dr. John listening kick. For some strange reason I thought he'd gone all boogie woogie after he recorded Babylon? Very pleased to find I was wrong and he's got more voodoo, gumbo, funk, blues stew in the same vein as the Gris- Gris.
