It's fairly unlikely you'd have made it here without ever having heard of Jason's previous incarnation. So here you go, talk away...

Hello,
I found this a few days ago.

http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/reading-89.html

Well worth a look. A non commercial community archive site covering UK festivals of the 60s, 70s and 80s. A great deal of stuff on the free festival scene which is absolutely fascinating. It invites contributions from them that were there. In the wonderful words of the people who run it: "tell us before you snuff it."

Its lacking in eye witness accounts of the Spacemen at Reading so perhaps we can rectify that? I've had a crack myself and will send it in. maybe someone can re write the relevant section from Dream Weapon and send that in too.

I love these sites. I've read stuff about stonehendge and seen the hawkwind video but there are dozens of photos and first hand accounts, press reports etc all in one place. All genres, all events, all angles. Superb.

Yeah it was pissing down £15 for a day ticket whats it now £70 odd?,I remember thinking "oh ,they got a third guitarist, who`s he?" Mark Refoy I later found out ,always wondered why a band that was so powerful felt the need for another guitarist ,it was hard to tell in a windy, rainy field, maybe if I had the chance to hear that line up in club ,the difference would have been more obvious, but f8ck me 21 yrs. were the hell does the time go?

Oh... I would have loved to have been there. Actually... Friday would have been the only day I would have loved to have been there. Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, even New Order and I bet I'd even have checked out The Sugarcubes and The House of Love.

Billy Bragg on Saturday...

And Loop on Sunday.

Well, I think Reading 1992... might have been probably one of the best.

Oh, 1990. With Ride. Tehee. Of course I would have been there. I think 1990 was even better. But no Spacemen. :( Yeah, I like 1990 better. ^^

Thanks for the link. :)
W: What are we supposed to do with that?
M: Eat it.
W: Eat it? Fucker’s alive.
M: Yeah, you’ve got to kill it.
W: Me? I’m the firelighter and fuel collector.

A friend of mine recently posted a set of photos from Reading 1989.
There's a cracking one of Spacemen 3 taken from 6 or so rows back. All of the band visible. Jason standing up - which is not how i remember it.
I think it is the only photo of that gig i have ever seen.
One other photo of MBV from further back.
A few crowd shots which are more interesting than the ones of the bands.
A very odd feeling seeing them. Such a pivotal event.
