Other users' bands

Post by radioshack »

Hi

I know quite a few people on these boards play in bands. Would it be possible for people to post links to their bands here. I'm always interested to hear what you guys are up to on the music front, particularly after seeing posting of such beautiful guitars and cool equipment.

Incidentally, is anyone up for starting a band? I'm back to square one with bandmates and I'm very bored in general.

PM me if you are still in the Glasgow area, let's do it!

Similar situation, back to being a 'solo artist' fairly recently too... :D

Majesty Crush was a band I was in . In the 90's

we made a record called Love 15 that the kids dug in Motown.

Highlights were 2 gigs with The Verve in Chicago and Detroit.

We played with The Nymphs ! The Laughing Hyenas !

And then I started Psiloveyou.

Highlights were NME single of the week with "where on earth is kevin shields?" 45

record is on Rocketgirl Records.

Picture of Kevin holding the 45 ! pretty cool !

And I made this record with Carruthers ! DEAR KATE

i've enjoyed myself !

I must say !

Now just looking fer a bit of inspiration.

If in L.A get in touch ! we can grab a drink and maybe write something ! 8)

Yes good fun Warmth.
Smoking alot of weed with Ashcroft and Kate was there with us !
Nice memories.
Billy Corgan was always around in those days.
Fun times with The Pumpkins too.
We played The Metro 3 or 4 times I think.
Chicago is a great music town.
Ain't been there in ages.

 Great pic. He seems amused.

That sounds like quite a lot of accomplishment. Supporting The Verve twice? Sounds really good. Are those two shows the ones during their tour for Urban Hymns? Seems like it. The Detroit show was one of the highlights of the tour, wasn't it?

W: What are we supposed to do with that?
M: Eat it.
W: Eat it? Fucker’s alive.
M: Yeah, you’ve got to kill it.
W: Me? I’m the firelighter and fuel collector.

Yes we were trying to blow the VERVE off the stage !
IF i remember ! it was funny.
I think I told ASHCROFT to bring his A game to Detroit !
HAHA ! he is a really competitive guy.
It was funny.
I've known them from the beginning so it was a riot !
We were meant to do the entire east coast with them.
But they broke up .
Kate was sort of the YOKO ONO of the whole thing.
It seemed like to me. She was always around. Alot of tension...

Shields holding yer 45 that you wrote for him !
Well it doesn't get better than that !

I actually just released a CD (and it's available on iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/artist/joel- ... d152383689). It's called "autumn, winter, spring, summer".

Check out the tracks by "Green Dynamo" too, that's my rock n roll band. (thegreendynamo.com)

My home domain is http://www.joelvanvliet.com

Let me know what you guys think of my tunes. I don't sound like Spiritualized even though when I first heard LICD I thought that's the direction I wanted to take. I love the huge orchestrations and gospel sounds (not what I have recorded myself though). Maybe one day. I did write a Spiritualized rip off song once in which I even pronounced my "ooo" sounds like Jason does. I'm from Canada. There was no excuse for it! :)

Hi
I am in a band called The Lucid Dream. All info via the link. Supported Spectrum several times, and most recently we have been working with Richard Norris (Beyond The Wizard Sleeve/The Grid). Got the re-mix back he did the other day, cant wait to unleash it!

see the links below for videos and free album..

the second album exists, but isnt 100% finished (thanks to laptop failure :x )
got angry because of that and decided to make some videos for songs instead.
really busy right now, but will attempt to revisit/finish the album soon as possible...
the last track will also be very epic and is awaiting a bunch of collab input, so that is on its own timeframe.
there's a provisional version at the moment which sort of sounds like spiritualized meets the beach boys (in japanese)

you'll find a heavy Spacemen 3 influence on this track (once it gets going) from 1990. Recorded using domestic tape decks and a microphone mixer from tandy.

hey, thanks a lot! :) yeah, it was certainly one hell of an experience. glad it works so well with the music.

[by the way, could this thread be moved to the 'music' section? i can kinda see why it was in the 'instruments' section at first, but it's mutated into something more general. more people pay attention to the threads in 'music' and it would be a good place to keep this stuff together, rather than having loads of different threads for each band. just an idea  ]

cheers! :D as you can imagine, it wasn't easy to get the music and visuals to match up, both in terms of feeling and flow. plus a long time just compiling enough good pics. there were a couple of failed attempts and a whole lot of rejected photos. it's a funny match though - a sort of vanishing point-era primal scream jam with an adam and joe show high-density video, haha. I'm just glad it works and looking forward to working on something a bit less labour-intensive for the next project. i was thinking of having a go at some really basic animation, having become slightly obsessed with modest mouse's video for 'king rat'.

Yeah, awesome stuff! I dig the video and song. Is this going to be on a new release soon? You should send it to Trensmat for consideration.

Thank you!! I love the bands who release stuff on Trensmat, so that's high praise indeed. Do you really think they'd be interested?? Haven't made any plans for the track as yet. The aim was just to try and finish up the rest of the album before throwing it on bandcamp. Never really thought a physical release would be practical, since vinyl is so expensive to make. As far as I can tell it involves fronting a whole lot of cash for even the most limited run, and then bands usually don't make that money back. Hope I'm wrong!

I know there's an uploader cajigger on the Trensmat site that will allow you to submit your material for consideration. It's worth a shot. Yes, vinyl is expensive to press if you're financing it yourself. 7-inches aren't so bad, but 12-inches gets really costly.

Im the said other guitarist above.

Id say the Pads and such are more of a priority than the piano/organ sounds. Because Im actually using an 88 key Yamaha S08 live for just that feature.

I found a roland MT-32 for stupidly cheap, and judging by the sound clips it should do exactly what we want, and be pretty death-proof.

Any thoughts?

Those into drones, tremolos, wah and distortion might find salvation in this live album recorded in 2014. Sorry for blowing my own horn, but I had a listen to the LP tonight, and it blew my mind. The band is sadly no more, but over the years we've played some great show. Last time we played, people came up and said it was like being taken on a ride on a UFO. An old geezer said it was the second best gig he had ever seen, the best was Led Zep in London in the 70s

The band is led by a Norwegian poet, and I've been playing with him since 2007. It started out as a very noisy duo, but eventually became a big and glorious live band. Feel free to listen at https://ismbe.bandcamp.com/album/bella-blu
